Interim Superintendent Named For osceola School District

osceola County, FL - The Osceola County School Board has named Melba Luciano, Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Curriculum and Instruction, as Interim Superintendent to succeed retiring Superintendent Terry Andrews. Mrs. Luciano will serve the district in the position for six months, allowing School Board members time to consider how to proceed in filling the Superintendent’s

position permanently. Mrs. Luciano will work collaboratively in the next few weeks with Mr. Andrews for a smooth transition. Mrs. Luciano brings to the position a

wealth of experience from 30 years in education, ranging from positions as a classroom assistant, a teacher, and a principal to Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. She began her career with the Osceola

School District in 1986. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Education from Hunter College in New York and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Nova University.“I look forward to providing

leadership for the district and school administration, as well as facilitating educational accountability,” said Melba Luciano. “As we envision a

future with promise and rewards for our students, it will take teamwork, mutual trust, understanding, and respect to create a cohesive team that shares a common vision for our schools and district. I look forward to working closely with all our stakeholders, including parents, students, teachers, employees, Board Members, and community residents, for success.”

orlando, FL - The family event of the summer returns to Central Florida July 19-21, when mascots from around the country compete in the 20th Annual Celebrity Mascot Games. The 2012 Mascot Roster features mascots from Major League Baseball, the NFL, NBA, NCAA and the NHL. Candidate Kathy Foust for Clerk of CourtAs a resident of Osceola County for

almost four decades, I am passionate about working to make our community one of the best in Central Florida. Through owning and managing my own business for the past 22 years, my focus is on customer service and understanding and meeting the needs of my customers. My business dealings have led me to establish and develop relationships with the court staff and with other community leaders. I demonstrate my leadership by being patient, fair, and promoting the highest level of ethical standards to my employees including case managers, legal assistants and nursing assistants. I believe that the employees of the Clerk’s office are professional people who are entitled to

have a great leader.As a community leader, I serve as

Commissioner of the Kissimmee Community Redevelopment Agency, Board of Director for the Boys and Girls Club, Board of Director and past president of the Kissimmee Rotary Club, Local Advocacy Committee, and a graduate of the 2009 class of Leadership Osceola . My service to this county has included Girl Scout Leader, distribution of dictionaries to all elementary school students, working at The Great Florida Shoot-Out, representing our senior residents through advocacy, collecting and helping at the local food banks, volunteering on the school SAC committees, hosting exchange students, and a wide variety of other

community events and fundraisers.In addition to my community, my

personal life demonstrates my loyalty to my family and friends. My wonderful husband of 39 years, Mike, is also a local small business owner. Together we have raised our four beautiful and intelligent children who have all graduated from Osceola County public schools and are all college graduates. The Clerk’s office performs a vital

function in our legal system, serving both the public and judicial system. I will work to provide a smooth transition from our paper public records to an electronic filing system, thus improving efficiency through technology. I recognize the diversity in cases that are filed in the Clerk of Court’s office

and the need for customized system for each division. Because of the diversity of the Clerk of Court’s divisions, the need for customized services will be an important priority for my mission to increase efficient, user-friendly systems. I will strive to make Osceola Clerk of Court’s office one of the best in our country, promoting from within the highest level of ethical standards and personally conducting myself in a way to be a shining example to my employees. osceola County, FL – On July 5, Osceola County Sheriff’s deputy Michael Carr’s employment was terminated after a criminal investigation concluded he publicly discharged his agency issued weapon while intoxicated while off duty. Detectives forwarded criminal charges to the State Attorney’s Office for review.On June 23, the Osceola County

Sheriff’s Office received information regarding shots fired in the area of Running Horse Trail in St. Cloud. Further investigation revealed the incident involved Carr, 26. Carr has

been employed as a Sheriff’s deputy since March of 2011. Detectives conducted a criminal

investigation which led to charges of Discharging a Firearm in Public and Discharging a Firearm While Intoxicated. Charges were forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office. In addition, an internal investigation concluded Carr violated three policies, including Conformance to Laws, Conduct Unbecoming and Use of Weapons, which led to his termination. The incident is considered an active criminal investigation pending the State Attorney’s Office review.

Court deputies, with the assistance of a St. Cloud police officer who was attending the hearing, intervened and all three individuals were taken into custody. After speaking with all three individuals and numerous witnesses, as well as reviewing evidence of the altercation, Parker and Kun were arrested and taken to the Osceola County Jail.
