•Major cruise lines are slowly but steadily adding Mazatlán to their itineraries, in part due to the area's new golf venues, vacation residential communities, marinas and cultural events. Mazatlán is truly coming into its own as a diverse city, according to El Cid Vacations Club. 

Infrastructure

• Infrastructure, like roadways and computer connectivity, is also part of the growth. One of the many new connections is a convenient

highway that links the city with nearby Durango.

Day trips & short excursions•Day trips and short excursions to local villages are a unique way to enjoy the charm of authentic hillside communities. El Cid Vacations Club notes that while Durango is a three-hour drive from the center of Mazatlán, there are dozens of tiny villages and back-road enclaves that welcome visitors and are always glad to help outsiders explore their little towns.

Investment •Local authorities have been augmenting city services and visitor amenities in areas like the Golden Zone of Mazatlán. Things like new roads, widened sidewalks, international pedestrian signs, and renovation of the historic district are key parts of the "new and improved" Mazatlán, according to the Secretary of Tourism. Federal funds approved by Mexico's Congress will continue to flow into the region.
