new split 7” on Boyarm Records El Boxeo Violin/bass/drums trio Sounds like: Stripped-down, energetic post-rock, with electric violin, fuzz bass, frenetic drums and sparse female vocals. History: Formed as a five piece pop band in 2000, with half of the members still in high school. After honing their sound and trimming down to a trio in late 2003, El Boxeo “got serious” about writing and performing. Released: Two self-produced EPs and a split 7" with Stationary Odyssey (from Indiana) on Boyarm records. Currently working on: Full length and split 7” with Zach Curd (of the Pop Project). Played with: Jason Anderson (k records), Fred Thomas (of Saturday Looks Good To Me), Thunderbirds Are Now! (Frenchkiss), Like Moving Insects, Kiddo, Larval. Touring History: Throughout the Midwest. As far northeast as Maine, south as Tennessee, west as Indiana. Press: “In the startling musical outfit El Boxeo, the haunting hum of the violin strings wave over Danny Sperry’s drums and Zach Norton’s bass amid a flurry of intense arrangements.” -Real Detroit Weekly “Lisa Norton is wise in often holding her tongue. When her Livonia, Mich. trio really digs in, words aren’t necessary.” -City Paper, Philadelphia “Words cannot describe my relief to see a band that was both interesting and talented.” -Panache Magazine, San Francisco “I’ve never heard post-punk with violin before and damned if it doesn’t work fairly well…A great combination of tone and texture.” -Splendidzine.com More reviews can be found by clicking "bio/press" at www.elboxeo.com.
