Staff security with locationEkoTek is a reliable battery operated, self-healing, wireless mesh network which creates afully functional staff protection system, withlocation and call acknowledgment. Members ofyour staff, who work either by themselves or inchallenging environments, can summonimmediate assistance from a dedicated supportteam should they feel they are at risk.

Simplicity of use is part of the EkoTek ethos,therefore users carry either a display device orfob and alerts can be raised by the followingactions:

l Pressing the emergency button

l Pressing an assist button (healthcare modelsonly)

l Fall – man-down alert triggers automaticallyfollowing a fall

l No response – dead-man alarm triggersautomatically on no response from an auditmessage

l Snatch cord – pulling on the device toremove from user automatically sends analert

Creating confidence withtechnologyShould a call for help be made, the caller canreceive a message back letting them know thattheir request for support has been acknowledgedand that help is on the way. This informationgives the initial caller the comfort that they arenot alone, reducing the stress factor for themwhen confronted with a challenging environment.Should a response to an alert not be generated,the system automatically repeats the alarm untilassistance has been given.

Ensure help is in thecorrect locationIt is vital that assistance is given in the rightplace, at the right time. When an alert is raised,the alarm and location information is sent todesignated colleagues or team members so theycan go directly to the disturbance, savingvaluable time and resources.

EkoTek surpasses many location systems due toits accurate repeater identification, allowingusers to be easily and quickly located. EkoTekalso allows data to be collected on alarms, useractivity, locations etc. to aid management of staffand hazardous environments so pre-emptiveactions can be taken to reduce risks in thebusiness.

Multitone works with a number of software andservice companies to provide specific security forhealth services using the EkoTek system.

Security in the network Fail safe

The mesh network is self healing, so if onerepeater fails the mesh reforms to continueoperation, and reports the failure, so whensomeone needs help, the EkoTek system isready to report both the alarm and the locationplus inform the user someone is on the way.

Low battery alarms are sent to the system assoon as batteries are becoming low. Theadministrator can then call for maintenance tosimply replace the batteries for undisturbedoperation.

The network is easily retrofitted within a buildingwith no wiring requirements. Mains powereddevices are also available where wiring is not aconcern for prolonged service of networkdevices.

Equipment that buildsconfidenceEase of use and installation ensures that EkoTekprovides customers with an uncomplicatedsolution to coordinating staff security.

RepeatersRepeaters provide the overall network coverageand accurate location reporting of an individualin need of help. Battery powered repeatersprovide up to 2 years operation* and can beinstalled as a retrofit network without disruptionto the building.

A mains powered repeater is also available,where wiring concerns are not an issue. Mainspowered repeaters provide constant power frommains electricity with a battery back-up in caseof failure.

Hub The hub provides a central administrator withdetails of network health, alerts in progress andthe ability to send display devices free formmessages.

Users raising an alarm receive confirmation ofdelivery to the hub and receive callacknowledgement when someone has acceptedan alert and is coming to assist, allowing the

user in danger to take appropriate actions in theknowledge that help is on the way.

Raising an alarm also sends the location of thealert, allowing assistance to be provided directlyto the location of the user.

Device configuration can be changed using a PCrunning standard web browser software. Networkand device data can be collected. Pagermessages, production of groups or teams ofpagers and location display allow call fob orpager users to be located, managed andcommunicated with.

Standard Hub

The standard hub provides an alert button forraising alarms at the hub and a display showingthe current alarm status. A closing contact allowsaudio or visual devices to be activated on analarm being raised.

Maxi Hub

The Maxi Hub provides connectivity for up to 750devices. Group calling features allow alert typesto be assigned to pre-configured user groups.

Call pointThe call point repeater can be wall or deskmounted, and allows staff or people local to thedevice to raise an alarm by the press of a button.A mains-powered call point provides battery-freeoperation where wiring is not an issue.

Synchronised EthernetRepeater A Synchronised Ethernet Repeater (SER)provides extensions to a network throughEthernet connection allowing long distancesbetween hub and remote locations to be coveredon the same network without excessive use ofrepeater chains. Up to 8 SERs can be used toextend a system.

Multi-way / desk chargersThe multiway chargers allow up to 4 pagers or 5fobs to be charged simultaneously from onecharging device. Using the wall mounts severalmultiway chargers can be easily arranged,keeping the site tidy, whilst also identifying whois on and off site. The multiway charger identifiesnot the only the user of the pager, but advises onbattery levels for each device inserted.

Desk chargers allows a user to charge theirdevice at the desk, providing a continuouslycharged battery, whilst still viewing messagesand receiving alarms.

EkoTek for healthcareClean light coloured devices for healthcare ornon-industrial environments have water resistantcases (IP67*), tough plastic cases able towithstand 1.4m drop onto hard ground*,rechargeable battery, colour backlight on displaydevices as well as the assist and emergencyalerts.

EkoTek Assist Fob The call fob allows an assistance call to begenerated either by the user pressing a button,or automatically by the dead-man or man-downfeatures. Accurate location information isobtained from the repeater network and relayedto teams for immediate assistance.

EkoTek Assist Pager The pager is a multi-functional device, displayingreceived messages with acknowledgement, plusthe ability to generate an alarm from the button,snatch cord, dead-man or man-down features.Its multi-colour display shows alarms from otherpagers and call fobs, allowing the user to acceptthe alarm and signal back to confirm thatassistance is on its way. Pager users can alsoreceive messages sent from the administrator ofthe hub.

Snatch cord - During an incident, pulling thesnatch cord provides an instant alarm should thepager be removed from the wearer at any time,leaving the user to focus on the situation in handwhile help is on the way.

Rechargeable battery - Both pager and fobutilise rechargeable batteries. With no batteryhatch to open, tampering with the devices isminimised. From a short battery charge ofaround 40 minutes a pager will provide 8 hoursof service. A full charge will provide the pagerwith up to 2 weeks of service and the fob with upto 4 weeks of service depending on usage.

*note where a device has been dropped compliance withIP67 may be affected. The device should not be sprayed orimmersed in liquid until checked by an authorised servicecentre.

Two levels of alarm

Immediate understanding of a situation allowsany support team to react in the most positivemanner. For both the EkoTek pager and fobthere are two levels of alarm so the recipient ofthe call is immediately aware of the gravitas ofthe alert. Where the request for assistance is notcritical, but assistance is seen as beneficial, thecaller is equally as confident that support is onthe way.

Emergency alarm:

The EkoTek Emergency alarm function providesa critical alert to summon assistance. At thepress of a button, all staff within a team can becontacted with location and user information,enabling immediate action to be taken.Emergency alarms are re-sent to the user as aform of escalation, until the issue is resolved andthe alarm cleared.

Assist alarm:

The EkoTek Assist function provides a secondnon-critical alert to that of the emergency alert.Users can summon help of a non-critical naturewhich is clearly visible by recipients andtherefore can be attended according to theirsituation. Low priority alarm to call for assistancedoes not have an escalation function.

Red button: Single or double press raises anemergency alarm with escalation

Blue button: Single or double press raises anassist alarm without escalation

Man-down: On suffering a fall, an alarm is raisedwith escalation

Dead-man: Raises alarm if no response isreceived to a scheduled request (with escalation)

Snatch alarm (pager only): Raises alarm if pageris snatched from cord

Display - The easy-to-read display with colouredbacklight gives additional importance to criticalmessages, further emphasising the nature of analert: red - emergency, blue - assist.

Case design - The slimline EkoTek pager andfob are designed for tough environments withdurable, easy clean water resistant cases. Witha rating of IP66 they can be used in dampenvironments and will continue to operate shouldthey be dropped in water or be exposed to highlevels of moisture. With belt clip or lanyard thedevices can be worn in the most convenient wayfor the user.

Cleaning - The EkoTek Assist pagers and fobsare suitable for cleaning with non-corrosiveantibacterial solutions. The units may be sprayedor dipped into suitable solutions*, to maintainhigh levels of hygiene in healthcareenvironments.

*Some cleaners contain solvents which can damage thePCABS plastics used in these products. Please check withthe cleaner manufacturer before use, for suitability.

EkoTek for industry The industrial devices support durable blackcases for tough environments and replaceablebatteries for quick changeover and continuedoperation. Both devices provide an emergencybutton and support dead-man and man-downalerts.

EkoTek FobThe lightweight fob may be worn on the belt oraround the neck with a lanyard and provides asimplistic means of ensuring staff safety aroundthe workplace, with a red button for sending analert and a grey button for clearing once theincident has been resolved.

EkoTek Pager In addition the pager provides a display ofreceived messages, and alerts with locations,so users can quickly attend the location of anincident. The addition of a snatch cord means analarm is raised should someone try to removethe pager from the wearer.

The pager can be fitted with a rechargeablebattery and placed in its desk charger to providecontinued use without battery replacement.

Emergency alarm:

The EkoTek Emergency alarm function providesa critical alert to summon assistance. At thepress of a button, all staff within a team can becontacted with location and user information,enabling immediate action to be taken to thepoint of the incident.

For added security, alarms can only be disabledat the alarm raising device. Should assistancenot be provided and the alarm not be cleared,the system repeats the alarm at regular intervalsuntil cleared by the user.

EkoTek applicationsCare homes: Carers can call for assistance tohelp with patients or call for help in case ofemergency, receiving notification that help is onthe way and their location is known.

Hospitals: Nurses can raise an alarm to call forhelp if in a threatening situation or help isneeded with a patient. The location beingprovided to the team means help can be swiftlyprovided to the site of the incident. EkoTek canbe deployed in departments where alarm andlocation is required and departments can belinked with SERs to extend systems.

Schools: Teachers in reform schools can beassured of instant assistance to their classroomshould they need assistance.

Should an intruder enter a school a staff membercan quickly and discretely raise the alarm andquickly identify where the intruder has beensighted allowing preparations to be made andprovide aid to anyone threatened.

Ekek – usage and market Industry: Workers in difficult or dangerousenvironments can raise alarms when assistanceis required in environments where chemical,electric, gas hazards etc. can cause staff to be indanger, EkoTek can automatically raise an alarmif the person is in difficulty, and unable torespond.

Hotels: Staff members can call for help to theirlocation at the simple press of a button,cleaners, porters etc. often work in isolatedareas and need the reassurance that someoneis only moments away.

Public-facing Staff: Any staff member confrontedwith the public may at times feel threatened,EkoTek allows staff who feel threatened to callfor help without notifying the aggressor thatassistance has been called.
