Origins:

• EchOpen was born in late 2014 as a community project, involving people from all over the world who are interested in m-health and e-health devices for the future of medicine

Origins:

• Ultrasound screening in obstetrics and gynecology is a complex task, with a major cognitive load and with significant medical impact both in the first trimester and later in pregnancy

• During the past decade in France, the average number of ultrasound scan per pregnancy increased, whereas the probability of diagnosis of congenital disorder did not

• Early pregnancy scans could be improved with proper assistance.

Innovation

• Smart Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (SUOG) develops the next-generation of intelligent assistant for ultrasound support during pregnancy

• This tool provides the ultrasound operator, in real-time and during the scan, with relevant information when he faces unusual features in the fetus

• The SUOG assistant provides iterative intelligent guidance and display relevant expert-validated fetal images to enforce the provided guidance

One of our success stories: Electronic Health Records to Electronic Data Capture systems

Basic facts:

• Transform A revolution in collecting and using health data in clinical research

• This technological innovation will make it possible to collect, after anonymisation, hospital EHRs data transparently for the sender and make it accessible to clinical trial investigators.

• in accordance with good clinical practice and regulations related to GDPR.

Key successes:

• EHR2EDC will reduce the workload of stakeholders, the complexity of data entry, the human errors due to manual data entry and the execution time of data collection

• This new technology, will allow the automatic capture of about 15% of the data of clinical protocols, previously re-entered manually.

• For example, if you count 1 minute of data entry, out of 100 Phase II, III, or IV clinical trials, the reduction in time for entering and validating the data represents a saving in almost €10 million.

• The growing proportion of older persons and their increasing drug utilisation call for more vigilance against drug conflicts, side-effects and other drug problems

• Older adults in Europe are using an increasing number of drugs, often in complex combinations, creating potential problems

Objectives

• The miniQ innovation is a web-based clinical decision support system to help older patients and their doctors optimise prescriptions and to avoid potential complications caused by drug treatments

Impact

• The miniQ system will provide valuable support for prescribers caring for older patients with complex drug regimes. More widespread use of miniQ may reduce the number of adverse drug events in Europe, leading to better health and quality of life for European citizens and cost-savings for the health care systems

• Despite major investment in cancer research, the five-year survival rate for rare cancer is 48%, compared to 68% for common cancers

• CHRONOS is a project to develop an efficient medical device for measuring the Motor Functional Age (MFA), a new concept related to motor functional abilities, by evaluating muscle contraction and kinematic abilities

• Over 28 million people are visually impaired in Europe, with the most prevalent retinal diseases being age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.

• Optimal means for early diagnosis and evaluating the effects of novel treatments are still missing.

• Our innovative transscleral illumination enables cellular-level imaging and possibly early diagnostics.

One of our success stories: BootCamp - Validation Lab Designed for MedTech & HealthTech early stage companies

Basic facts:

• Validation Lab is a unique two-month pressure cooker that allows aspiring entrepreneurs from all over Europe to discover the business potential of their health-tech ideas.

• The program helps participants to explore and validate their ideas, market potential and business model – and to launch in markets all over Europe.

• This programme will start in Delft at the end of August, within the Belgium/Netherlands EIT Health Co-Location Centre incubator. Half-way through the programme, participants will start investigating the market potential in other countries while visiting nearby co-location centres like Germany, Spain and Ireland.

PREDIGIT: Prescribing Digital Therapeutics

Basic facts:

• PreDiGiT course will prepare healthcare professionals and payers, in the UK, Spain and France, to prescribe and commission the right DTxat the right time to deliver value and improve the health of patients and populations.

• Training objectives:

• 1. Learn what DTx are and what they are not.

• 2. Learn to search for and evaluate the evidence about risks/benefits of different DTxoptions including how to choose between DTx endorsed by the health system or “over the counter” DTx.
