EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 02, 2020 CHANGE OF PASTOR After 5 years of being a pastor of Christ the King Parish, at the request of my superior provincial, Fr. Andrzej Kowalczyk and with a permission of His Eminence, Cardinal Thomas Collins, I was asked to become a pastor of St. Teresa Parish in Toronto. Therefore, Thursday, August 27 will be my last day at Christ the King parish. Michaelite Father, Rev. Zbigniew Rodzinka from Queen of Peace parish in Sarnia was appointed as a new pastor of your parish. Words are not enough to express my grati- tude for all your support and dedication during the last five years. It was a blessing to get to know you all. I have always had the good of the parish in mind and kindly ask for forgiveness, if unintention- ally I might have upset anyone in anyway. Please remember me in your prayers. I will always pray for you. God Bless You All. - Fr. Jozef Morawski UPCOMING – FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION The Assumption of our Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the great mysteries of God's love. To honour our Blessed Mother, we welcome all parishioners to join us in celebrating the Holy Mass on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 10:30 am. We also intercede with our Most Holy Mother to bless the people of India who celebrate their Inde- pendence Day on August 15. Mass will be followed by a small social on the Parish grounds, or in the Church Hall, in accordance with required physical distancing measures. THIS WEEK First Thursday please pray for the vocation to the priesthood and religious life. Mass 8:30 am. First Friday 5:00 to 7:00 pm - adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Sacrament of Reconcilia- tion. 7:00 pm Litany to the Seared Heart of Jesus, followed by the Holy Eucharist. LECTIO DIVINA WITH CARDINAL COLLINS (2019-20 SEASON) Lectio Divina is a 2,000 year old spiritual tradition where Christians prayerfully and attentively read Scripture in the hopes of getting closer to God. Jesus is portrayed as a David-like shepherd who leads His flock to lie down on green grass as He spreads the table of the Messiahs banquet before them (see Psalm 23). Jesus is shown as a new Moses, who like- wise feeds vast crowds in a deserted place. Fi- nally, Jesus is shown doing what the prophet Elisha did—satisfying the hunger of the crowd with a few loaves and having some left over (see 2 Kings 4:4244). Matthew also wants us to see the feeding of the 5,000 as a sign of the Eucharist. Notice that Jesus performs the same actions in the same sequence as at the Last Supper—He takes bread, says a blessing, bre- aks it, and gives it (see Matthew 26:26). Jesus instructed His Apostles to celebrate the Eu- charist in memory of Him. And the ministry of the Twelve is subtly stressed in todays acco- unt. Before He performs the miracle, Jesus in- structs the Twelve to give the crowd some food yourselves.Indeed, the Apostles them- selves distribute the bread blessed by Jesus (see Matthew 15:36). And the leftovers are enough to fill precisely 12 baskets— corresponding to each of the Apostles, the pil- lars of the Church (see Galatians 2:9; Revelation 21:14). In the Church, as we sing in todays Psalm, God gives us food in due season, opens His hands and satisfies the desi- res of every living thing. Now, as Paul reminds us in todays Epistle, nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. https:// stpaulcenter.com/audio/sunday-bible-reflections/food-in- due-season-scott-hahn-reflects-on-the-eighteenth-sunday- in-ordinary-time/. SUNDAY REFLECTION - “FOOD IN DUE SEASON”

In Jesus and the Church, Isaiah’s promises in today’s First Reading are fulfilled. All who are thirsty come to the living waters of Baptism (see John 4:14). The hungry delight in rich fa-re—given bread to eat and wine to drink at the Eucharistic table. This is the point, too, of today’s Gospel. The story of Jesus’ feeding of the 5,000 brims with allusions to the Old Te-stament. Jesus is portrayed as a David-like shepherd who leads His flock to lie down on green grass as He spreads the table of the Messiah’s banquet before them (see Psalm 23). Jesus is shown as a new Moses, who like-wise feeds vast crowds in a deserted place. Fi-nally, Jesus is shown doing what the prophet Elisha did—satisfying the hunger of the crowd with a few loaves and having some left over (see 2 Kings 4:42–44). Matthew also wants us to see the feeding of the 5,000 as a sign of the Eucharist. Notice that Jesus performs the same actions in the same sequence as at the Last Supper—He takes bread, says a blessing, bre-aks it, and gives it (see Matthew 26:26). Jesus instructed His Apostles to celebrate the Eu-charist in memory of Him. And the ministry of the Twelve is subtly stressed in today’s acco-unt. Before He performs the miracle, Jesus in-structs the Twelve to give the crowd “some food yourselves.” Indeed, the Apostles them-selves distribute the bread blessed by Jesus (see Matthew 15:36). And the leftovers are enough to fill precisely 12 baskets—corresponding to each of the Apostles, the pil-lars of the Church (see Galatians 2:9; Revelation 21:14). Niech ten wybitny obrońca prawd Bożych stanie się i naszym niestrudzonym orędownikiem. Amen.

ROZWAZANIE EWANGELICZNE MT 14, 13-21 "Nie mamy tu nic prócz pięciu chlebów i dwóch ryb."

FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD – THURSDAY, AUGUST 6

Mases: 8:30 am in Eng and 7:00pm in Polish. This Feast recalls and celebrates Jesus’ revela-tion of his divinity to three of his friends—Peter, James, and John—on a high point on Mount Tabor. Jesus took the three disciples on-to the mountain to pray. While they were pray-ing, his appearance was changed by a brilliant white light that radiated from him and his clothing. Moses and Elijah, the greatest proph-ets of the Old Testament, appeared with Jesus, and a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” The account of the Transfiguration points backward to the Old Covenant (symbolized by the presence of Moses and Elijah) and the New Covenant, fore-shadowed in the revelation of Jesus’ divine glo-ry. Celebrating the Feast of the Transfiguration with your children: Read the Scripture for the feast (You can do so at the USCCB website), Listen to the musical meditation from Veronica Scarisbrick (provided by Vatican Radio), Listen to Father Robert Barron’s extended reflection on the Transfiguration as a template for mysti-cal experiences, Pray a decade of the Luminous mysteries with your kids—the Transfiguration, of course, Serve vanilla ice cream for dessert or a special treat, reminding your kids that Jesus’ face and clothing were whiter than snow (represented by the ice cream) https://teachingcatholickids.com/celebrating-the-feast-of-the-transfiguration/.
