Eight-year-old Abdal on Eagle Ward.

Your quiz night guide

Thank you for choosing to support Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity by holding your own Quiz Night. Hopefully, you’ll find everything you need in this pack to make your Quiz Night a huge success.

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is a place where seriously ill children from across the UK come for life-saving treatments. This extraordinary place has always depended on charitable support – that urgent need still exists.

The children at GOSH need your help today to give them the best chance to fulfil their potential.

A BETTER FUTURE STARTS HERE.By raising money through your Quiz Night you’ll be helping patients like two-year-old Orla who has a tracheostomy that helps her to breath. Here on Miffy Ward she is learning to communicate using Makaton sign language.

Don’t forget to send in your donations using the handy form we’ve included in this guide.

HOW TO: make the most of your Quiz Night

There are so many ways you can raise a bit more dosh for GOSH, but to make it as easy as possible why not try one of our top ideas?

Phone fine Anyone caught on their phone should be fined.

Have a sweepstake Get people to guess what the winning score will be.

Collection tins Why not request a collection tin at www.gosh.org and watch the loose change add up.

Bar snack buffet Offer the teams a selection of bar snacks in exchange for a donation.

Matched Giving Some employers generously offer to match any money raised for charity by their staff. Have a chat to your boss and see if this is possible.

It’s as easy as 1,2,3 to make sure your Quiz Night is a huge success!

Pick a date and tell everyone about it.

Hold your Quiz Night and raise some cash.

Collect together your donations and send them in so we can put them to good use.

Q&As Q. What are we raising money for?

A. By holding a quiz night you are helping to raise vital fund towards patient family accommodation at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Weston House, our Patient Hotel provides family accommodation for both short-term patients who have travelled from outside of London, as well as longer-term accommodation for families whose children have complex medical needs or who have a substantial recovery period ahead of them. The patient hotel means that families can stay together in a non-clinical environment in close proximity to the hospital in case of emergencies.

It costs £619 a day to fund parent accommodation at Weston House, and we rely on the generosity of the public to continue to provide this vital service. By holding your own Quiz Night you can help us provide much needed to support and keep families with very sick children.

Q. When should we hold our quiz?

A. We’re aiming to get as many people as possible across the UK taking part in a quiz this spring so that we can raise the vital funds we need to support our patient family accommodation. If you can’t, don’t worry! The most important thing is that you hold your Quiz Night to help us to support our families when they need it most.

Q. How do I tell people about our event?

Getting the word out is the best way to make your night a huge success. We’ve included a promotional poster in this pack which is a great place to start. You can print as many as you need and insert the details of your event. Social media is also a great way to spread the word so make sure you promote your event on your Facebook page and on Twitter.

Your quiz night guide

Q&As Q. How much can we raise at our event?

A. We’d love you to raise as much as possible at your event to help us to fund patient family accommodation. It’s surprising how quickly the money can add up, for example if you have 10-teams of 5 people with each individual donating £3 to take part you’ll raise £150! There are lots of ways to boost your fundraising too. Take a look at our top tips on page 3 to help raise more dosh for GOSH.

Q. I want to make up my own questions – is that ok?

A. Of course! We hope that the questions we’ve provided are a good starting point but if you do want to do your own, please feel free. Why not tailor your quiz to appeal to your audience? If you’re a sporting bunch, why not have a sports quiz. If you’re more of a music fan a music quiz can be great fun too. If you need a little help the internet is full of quiz questions – just make sure they come with the answers included!

Q. How do I send my money in?

A. Simply complete the monies return form included in this pack and post it back to us with a cheque.

We’ll then be able to send you a thank you letter to let your customers know that we’re putting your donations to good use.

If you’ve got any questions or need any support please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

020 3841 3179 [email protected]

Thanks so much for your support and best of luck with your fundraising!
