• A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, and idea

Types of Nouns1. Common noun is a general name for a person, place, thing, or idea.
Common nouns usually are not capitalized.2. Proper noun is the name of a particular person, place, thing, or idea.
Proper nouns are always capitalized.3. Concrete nouns name an object that can be seen, heard, smelled,
touched, or tasted.4. Abstract nouns name ideas, qualities, or states (feelings).5. Singular nouns name one person, place, thing, or idea.6. Plural nouns name more than one person, place, thing, or idea.7. Collective nouns refer to a group of people or things.8. Compound nouns are made up of two or more words; they may be
written as one word, as separate words, or as hyphenated words.9. Possessive nouns show ownership or relationship.

• A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun or another pronoun

Types of Pronouns
1. Personal pronouns replace nouns- I, me, we, us, you, he, him, she, her, it, they, them
2. Possessive pronouns show ownership or relationship- my, mine, our, ours, your, yours, his, her, hers, its,
their, theirs
3. Indefinite pronouns do not refer to specific nouns- another, anybody, few, both, all, some

Verbs
• A verb expresses an action, condition, or state of being
• There are two main types of nouns:– Action verbs express action. The action can be
physical or mental.– Linking verbs link the subject of a sentence to a
word in the predicate.

• An adjective modifies or limits the meaning of a noun or pronoun
• Adjectives tell what kind, which one, how many, or how much
