Great builders, they left breathtaking artifacts behind.

ONE OF THE GREATEST?

Egyptian civilization was one of the most stable, successful and longest lasting civilization the world ever saw.

Although eventually conquered by the Persians, Egypt had been powerful and independent for 3000 years.

RELIGION AND GEOGRAPHY

There are two main reasons why Egypt was so successful…

their geographical location…..

…..and their religion.

IMHOTEP: AN EGYPTIAN GENIUS

One of the few non-pharaohs to be worthy enough of record.

He founded the Egyptian system of medicine which would be considered the best in the ancient world.

He is best remembered for the construction of his pharaoh’s tomb.

THE MIDDLE KINGDOM 2050 BCE

Civil War plunged Egypt in anarchy for 150 years.

The Theban Kings united Egypt under the sun god Amon-Re for 200 years

The Hyksos conquered using superior weapons.

They were eventually driven out.

Egypt’s Golden Age. The Apex of the civilization. The height of architecture and art. Dominated by several key figures.

HATSHEPSUT (HAT-SHEP-SOOT)

One of only three women rulers in 3000 years.

Usually women ruled temporarily during a transition period.

She was supposed to govern until her son was old enough but declared herself the female king of Egypt.

TUTHMOSIS III

Took power after Hetshepsut.

“The Napoleon of Egypt” Expanded the military

and wealth of Egypt due to his many successful conquests of the region.

Although not known as a warlike people, they had one of the best trained and most disciplined armies of the time.

MILITARY

Records indicate that the Pharaoh, the early symbol of Amon-Re, would lead the charge in battle.

Egyptians believed that it was their faith that awarded them the victory.
