What are the entry requirements? The key to success in the Sixth Form is studying the right courses at the right level. At Enfield grammar School Sixth Form, we offer courses at different levels and in a wide range of subjects.

by analysing our own data and UK national statistics, we have established different pathways for students to follow to give them the best chance of success. The thresholds for each pathway are designed to be inclusive and optimistic, and while they do not guarantee success at any level, they help decide the sort of course package that should be chosen.

For subject-specific requirements to study AS level, please refer to the Entry requirements, as specified on the application forms or the summary given with each subject in this Prospectus.

Students are expected to have displayed a mature and co-operative attitude towards academic work, fellow students and staff during their gCSE courses.

All prospective entrants are required to fill in an application form and will then be interviewed regarding their suitability for courses.

Please note that the courses and options offered in this Prospectus are subject to change without notice. You may wish to discuss details of a particular course with the teacher in charge of that subject.

Please note that throughout this process we are happy to offer advice and guidance to students and parents.

“The Sixth Form is increasingly successful and ensures students have a wider range of opportunities to continue their studies. Student’s success at the end of Year 11 means they have a wide range of post-16 opportunities. Many students choose to stay on at the Sixth Form as they feel the support they receive is very good and there is an increasing range of courses and combinations as a result of the many partnerships the Sixth Form has. Students registered at other institutes, including female students, are taught in Enfield grammar. These students explained that they value the teaching and support they receive from the school.

There are clear plans to develop the curriculum further in the Sixth Form to ensure the needs of students are further met. The changes in the curriculum have assisted in the increasingly positive outcomes for students. The improvements in care, guidance and support for the Sixth Form students, the developing curriculum and the improving teaching demonstrate the good leadership of the Sixth Form.”

Philosophy and Ethics is the subject that asks the big questions: does god really exist? How can I know the difference between right and wrong? How is the best way to run a state? What challenges does science present to religious believers? Is war ever acceptable? Is there free will? You will learn about the ways in which philosophers from ancient times to the present have tried to answer these and other questions, and also how to construct your own philosophical arguments and how to spot errors in reasoning. If you like the idea of participating in lively debate, of exchanging and developing ideas with others, and of exploring some of the most profound ideas that mankind has ever asked, Philosophy and Ethics could be the subject for you.

WordS from ThE hEad BoYSEnfield grammar School Sixth Form is one of a kind. It has a truly positive atmosphere and gives its students opportunities and support like no other.

The teachers here do not hesitate to go above and beyond the extra mile for their students, working with and encouraging us to squeeze out every bit of our potential. The amount of time and effort sacrificed for the pupils is unrivalled anywhere, and drives us to constantly strive for the best.

Enfield grammar School allows us to strengthen our character, both academically and socially. There are a great variety of team sports such as rugby, football, cricket, basketball and athletics, and extra-curricular activities includind debating and chess.

Extra courses are also offered to make us well rounded individuals, providing us with key skills to help us in life, not just school. These include first aid, sports leadership and help with applying for university, college or jobs, and many opportunities are there to help us stand out in the sea of people applying. Trips to seminars and mini-lectures are organised, workshops are set up, as well as team building days which give us the chance to develop as individuals.

The Sixth Form places emphasis on hard work, but understands that the best working environment is one that students feel comfortable in, and enjoy coming to. We enjoy coming to school at Enfield grammar Sixth Form, because it is a place we can enjoy what we do, whilst achieving our full potential.

cElEBraTinG SUccESSIn July 2013, after their exams, our Year 13 students, and the girls from Enfield County School organised and ran a joint Prom. It was held on a river boat on the Thames, and it was a great opportunity for students from both schools to enjoy and celebrate two hard years of studying in the Sixth Form. It proved so successful, that the current Year 13 students, from both schools, are already in discussion, and making plans for the next one.

last year our students from Year 12 organised an afternoon social get together, with the girls from Year 12 at Enfield County School. This was a good way for the students, who often attend classes together under the collegiate system, to get to know each other and chat about their transition into Sixth Form. This was well attended, and we will encourage the current Year 12 to do the same as this was very successful.

rewards

As a reward for their immense dedication, hard work and commitment to the school, 32 Prefects were selected to attend a fun day out at Rye House go Karting Track. Everyone enjoyed themselves, and we hope to repeat this each year as a thank you to students for showing strong leadership skills, being good role models to the younger students, and ambassadors for Enfield grammar School.

Paracetamol day

Each year we organise a visit from chemists at glaxo Smith Klein for our Year 12 Chemistry students. During the day they are shown how Paracetamol is made and used for pain relief in the body. The students are then given a chance to attempt to recreate the drug for themselves, which gives them valuable insight into how drugs are manufactured and they always enjoy the day.

duke of Edinburgh award Scheme

Year 12 students have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at Silver Level. This course gives students’ skills, confidence and a view on life that everyone is looking for, from employers to colleges and universities. They will make a difference to other people’s lives and their community, be fitter and healthier, make very good friends and, above all, have fun.

level 2 award in community Sports leadership

In year 12 we also run a Sports Award Scheme which is a nationally recognised qualification for those who wish to develop their leadership skills. It is designed to develop leadership skills that can be applied to a number of sporting situations as well as contributing to personal development. It is a practical qualification in which learners demonstrate their ability to lead others in sport/activity situations. This can be through helping at sports clubs that they already attend, helping to run and organise primary school activities or assisting with school sports teams’ practices.
