WEEKLY UPDATE

October 20, 2017

From the desk of the Principal:

The character education word of the month is APPRECIATE

STUDENTS OF THE WEEK

Student: Rene Euceda Nominated by: Senora De La Rosa HE IS RESPONSIBLE, COMMITTITTED TO DO HIS WORK AND HELPS OTHERS TO

STAY ON TASK DURING GROUP WORK. I NOTICED HOW HIS ATTITUDE HAS

CHANGED TO BE POSITIVE AND DETERMINED SINCE I FIRST MET HIM

IN SEPTEMBER

Student: Parker Migliore Nominated by: Ms. Halloran Parker consistently shows empathy for his classmates, and is always helpful whenever possible.

He comes to class a few minutes early to make sure that everyone who needs a text book has

one waiting for them when they arrive to class. He also helps putting them away at the end of

the period. Parker is a very kind and respectful student who deserves to be recognized for his

selfless attitude.

Last night, two separate events were held for current and prospective EHT families. Mrs. Elko

from the Guidance department facilitated Financial Aid Night for families wanting to learn

more about college funding. Mrs. Sharon Austin from the New Jersey Higher Education

Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) presented on topics including scholarships, grants, and

work study programs as well as loan programs designed to help fund the Expected Family

Contribution (EFC) that is required of entering freshmen. Mrs. Austin’s presentation is posted

on the Guidance page and the HESAA website is located at

http://www.hesaa.org/Pages/StudentsParents.aspx . The HESAA website is a wealth of

information for New Jersey families and should be part of the college planning process for

every student.

Also on Thursday, a group of 8th grade, private school parents and students came in to tour the

school, get information about our programs, and have the opportunity to ask questions. While

we do not recruit students, it’s nice to give EHT resident families unfamiliar with the district the

opportunity to orient themselves to our school and make an educated choice amongst the

numerous secondary school options in our area. The open house for Alder and Fernwood

families is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15 at 6:30 pm. Any and all athletic teams,

activities, or programs are welcome to set up a booth in the Commons Area to provide

information to incoming students. Please email Mr. Pellegrino to reserve a spot.

Congratulations again to our Educational Foundation Mini-Grant winners this year! The

recipients were honored at an enjoyable awards ceremony during the Board of Education

Meeting this past Tuesday night:

Cameron Bell et al: “The Freshman Challenge”

Ed Brower: “Engineering Mechanics: Interface and Program the Servo-Electric Robotic Arm”

Christa Delaney: “Soil Properties”

Angelic Delcher: “Constitution Game Day”

Marijke Huntley: “Cleaning Up America’s Forgotten Cemeteries-Save A Grave”

Denise Steet: “Multimedia Mash”

EHTHS Renaissance Community Trunk or Treat was held Saturday, October 14th from 1-3pm.

This event doubled in size from last year. A great time was had by all. See below for some

great pictures!

The ABC Learning Center joined the Egg Harbor Township high school students and teachers

for their first day of school on Tuesday October 11, 2017. Our three and four year old children

and the high school students are excited to begin their new journey of teaching and learning

together during the 2017-18 school year.

FCCLA students participated in The American Cancer Society Making Strides against Breast

Cancer walk held in Ocean City, NJ on Sunday, October 15, 2017. EHTHS FCCLA collected

donations for the cause. The team captain, Stefania, created this team as an outreach project for

breast cancer awareness. Not only is the team raising funds for the American Cancer Society,

but they are also developing leadership skills and learning ways to give back to the community

and organizations that have widespread impact. It was great day on the Ocean City Boardwalk!

FCCLA set a goal to raise $500 and they raised $600!

Please stop by for the Latin Carnival on Saturday. A tradition at the school for the last 12 years,

the Latin program uses the proceeds to fund scholarships for our seniors. Activities include

candy distributed via piñatas, a maze, games, art, face painting, nail art, and costume contests.

See the flyer below for additional information.

Have a great weekend,

Terry

WEEKLY GAME/SCORE REPORT SPORT/OPPONENT/RECORD SCORE/ HIGHLIGHTS/DETAILS

JV FIELD HOCKEY

JV field hockey has completed its season at 3-5-7.

VARSITY FIELD HOCKEY Varsity Field Hockey tied Mainland in the annual

pink game on Monday and beat Atlantic City in

overtime on Wednesday night!

Cheyenne Avellino scored for the lady eagles against

Mainland and it was her first varsity goal!!

Kylie Elwell scored the goal during regulation

against AC and Angelica Dagit scored the goal at the

very end of overtime to give the Eagles the win!

FRESHMEN FOOTBALL

The freshmen football traveled to Washington

Township to play the Minutemen. The baby eagles

had one good series, putting together a 12 play drive

that resulted in our only touchdown scored by Chris

Decker. Kenneth Underwood took the next play to

the promise land for two points. The baby eagles are

still trying to figure out how to fly for four quarters

of a game.

VARSITY FOOTBALL 10/13/17 Washington Township 14 EHT 6

The varsity team dropped a hard-fought game last

week, bringing the overall record to 0-5. Shaquille

Boyd racked up the yardage offensively and Yvandy

Rigby provided the only points, intercepting the

Washington Twp. quarterback and bringing it back

to the house in the 4th quarter. EHT is on the road

this Friday 10/20 vs. the prep with a 6:00 start time.

GIRLS VARSITY SOCCER

Away at Bridgeton

EHT notched a road win at Bridgeton on Friday 7-1.

Sophomore Lauren Ebner and freshman Niki Danz

opened the scoring with two goals in the first two

minutes of play. Junior Emily Rudolph and

freshman Meghan Maul recorded their first career

varsity goals. Senior Captain Stefania Piantadosi

netted three. With the win, EHT ensured a return bid

to the illustrious SJSCA tournament after making it

last year. This is the third time in school history that

EHT made the tournament which represents the top

16 teams in southern New Jersey. No. 13 EHT take

on No. 4 Cinnaminson on Saturday at 11am in the

first round.

EHT added another to the win column on Monday at

Middle Township’s Senior Night. Freshman Niki

Danz scored after getting in behind the defense on a

great combination play by junior Lauren Woolbert

and senior captain Stefania Piantadosi shortly into

the second half. Middle countered with a goal a few

minutes later, but Stefania came though by finishing

a ball that skipped on the wet grass through the

keeper’s grasp. Senior Devan Freas and junior

Emily Rudolph played well in the win. EHT is to be

commended on their composure in a game that saw

multiple yellow cards given all to Middle Township

for over-exuberant play.

EHTHS girls’ soccer made history yesterday with

their first win in the program’s history on Millville

soil. EHT sophomore Kara Semet played senior

captain Stefania Piantadosi through the defense with

a lovely weighted ball. Stefania’s initial shot was

saved, but freshman Niki Danz was there to bury the

rebound about 23 minutes into the first half. EHT’s

lock down defenders senior captain Siani Magruder,

junior Emily Rudolph, freshman Casey Biglan, and

freshman Meghan Maul shut down all scoring

opportunities Millville could muster. Strong

defensive midfield play from junior Alexa Albert

and solid goal keeping from senior Courtney

Flaherty secured EHT’s eighth shutout of the season.

With this win, EHT is one win away (against

Mainland) from winning the Cape Atlantic League

American Title. Best of luck to the girls as they

compete in the first round of the SJSCA tournament

this weekend in Cinnaminson.

BOYS VARSITY SOCCER Coach Lambert reached the 100 win milestone in a

2-1 win over ACIT. Congratulations on this

monumental achievement. The team wraps up the

regular season next week vs. Mainland and then are

awaiting their seed in the NJSIAA tournament.

GIRLS TENNIS Girls tennis defeated Millville 3-2 in the Group 4

semi-finals on Friday the 13th. Emily Manzo

and Tiffany Trivers won their singles matches in

straight sets. Doubles Christine Vu and Asia

Lackland were down 2-5 in the first set but pulled

out a 7-5, 6-4 win.

On Tuesday, EHT hosted Vineland in the finals of

the Group 4 playoffs. It was an extremely close

match. Sarah Phung and Tiffany Trivers won to

bring the match to a 2-2 tie. Vineland won the 2nd

doubles match in three sets to win the match 3-

2. This is the second consecutive year that Girls

Tennis reached the Group 4 finals.

The team plays in the Cape Atlantic League

tournament starting next Tuesday, Oct. 24.

luck to Girls’ Soccer as they head into the first round

of the South Jersey Coaches Tournament. The Girls

received the 13th seed in the tournament. The team

American crown with a win over Mainland next

week. Field Hockey will head to Cherokee on
