    1. Overview

    1.1 Overview

    # Picks Technical Specialist Talk Track Competitive Info – Notes

    1. Storyline Purpose: Demonstrate PTC solutions for metal construction companieswho design and manufacture equipment for houses like

    •  Handrailings for balconies or stairs etc.

    •  Smaller roofs.

    •  Smaller facades.

    •  Etc.

Storyline: This demo covers different types of structural designs used forbuildings and houses. Conent of different chapters is as follows:

Chapter 2: Explain basic functionality of Pro/E + EFX by designing arectangular field and a post for balcony railing.

Chapter 3: Explain advantages of fully parametric CAD system bycopying, modifying existing designs. This allows to design a completebalcony railing including drawings in less than 30minutes.Chapter 4: Explain advantages of 3D CAD system by designing asmall entrance roof which would be pretty complex to design in 2D.Chapter 5: Explain design with typical aluminium or plastic extrusionsused for facades, window framing etc.Depending on focus of metal construction customer some chapters ofthis demo can be skipped. For the different demos movies with voiceare available if you send E-mail to [email protected]

Balcony Railing Entrance Roofl Small Facade

Usually the small and medium sized metal constructioncompanies still work a lot with 2D-CAD, mostly AUTOCAD.

Upgrading to mechanical CAD sytems like Catia or UGusually is too expensive, upgrading to Solidworks / Inventor isinteressting from price point of view, but even these sysemshave basic stuctural design functionality, the capabilities forstructural design are not good enough especially whenworking with façade profiles

For structural steel design there exist very specialized CAD

systems like Tekla Structures etc but these systems are verypoor for mechanical design as they are not using real solidmodelling and usually they are pretty expensive, so they arenot interessting for smaller metal construction companies.

Also designing with façade profiles is difficult.

    1.2 Data Introduction

    # Picks Technical Specialist Talk TrackCompetitive Info –Notes

    2. Data set for metal construction demo consists of different folders:

    •  efx60: This contains data you need to update your existing efx60 M020 installation in

order to perform the demos. Copy the datas from this folder to the same subfolders ofyour existing EFX 60 M020 installation

    •  railing_templates_start: Start data to perform demo for basic usage of EFX designinga railing field and a post. Perform this always as introduction to EFX

    •  balcony_railing_start: Start data to perform demo how to design complete balconyrailing project reusing and modifying existing design data

    •  entrance_roof_start: Start data to perform demo how to design entrance roof whichrequires 3D modelling and is very difficult to do in 2D

    •  facade_start : Start data to perform demo how to design facades using typical façadeprofiles.

    •  metal_construction_demo_all_together : Completed model after performing alldemos.

Open assembly metal_construction_demo from folder metal_construction_demo_all_togetherand explain demo data set:

Balcony Railing Entrance Roofl Small Facade

Close assembly and erase it from session!
