This brochure gives details ofa range of fixed oil ring lubri�cated EF�bearings, shaft dia�meters 160 to 315 mm, suit�able for use on electricalmachines, fans, water turbinesand pumps.

For information on E�bearingswith smaller shaft diametersrefer to the correspondingRENK brochures.

Bearing HousingThe finned EF housings size22 to 35 are made of highquality cast iron (EN�GJL�300)and are designed for heavyduty performance. Othermaterials, such as EN�GJS�400�18�LT or GS 45 can besupplied in special cases.

Bearing ShellsThe shells are manufacturedfrom steel (C 10) and have aspherical seating. They arelined with RENKmetal therm89 and the working surfacesand the oilways are configur�ated to give long life undersevere operating conditions.Being fully interchangeableensures trouble free assemblyat all times.

The bearing shells for the Etype bearings with lubricationby fixed oil ring have always aplain cylindrical bore.

Apart from bearings withoutthrust parts (type...Q) there areshells with plain white�metallined shoulders (type...B) toabsorb non�continuous axialloads of limited magnitude, aswell as shells with bi�direction�al taper land faces (type...K)which can absorb axial loadsof medium magnitude.

Alternatively the taper landfaces can be supplied suitablefor only one sense of rotation(type...E) to absorb high axialloads.

SealsParticularly for marine applica�tion the EFWF�type bearingssizes 22 to 35 are equippedwith rigid seals (type 20).These seals are made of cor�rosion resistant aluminium

alloys and correspond to pro�tection grade IP 44. Higherprotection grade (up to IP 56)upon request.

For stationary applications thebearings can be also fittedwith floating labyrinth seals(type 10). These seals aremade of fibre reinforced, hightemperature resistant RENKplastic therm P50 and areresistant to wear. The floatinglabyrinth seals correspond toprotection grade IP 44. Higherprotection grades (up to IP 56)are also available.

Special types of seals such asair seals or special machineseals are also available onrequest.

Oil SupplySelf lubrication by fixed oil ringin closed ring channel, up toapprox. 18 m/s speed at theouter diameter of the ring.

The non�locating bearings arefitted with fixed oil rings whichmove in axial direction on theshaft. The oil ring follows themovement of the shaft due tothe friction produced byspring�mounted pressureplates.

For use with locating bearing,the fixed oil ring is designedas collar, which can be eithershrunk onto the shaft ormachined out of the shaftforging.

An oil scraper takes up thelubricant carried to the highestpoint by the fixed oil ring anddelivers it to the oil pockets.The fixed oil ring has an excel�lent performance, ensuringenough lubricant amount evenin the case of combined jour�nal and thrust bearings.

Electrical InsulationTo prevent problems fromelectrical eddy currents, theEFWF bearings can be electri�cally insulated, internally. Insuch cases the spherical seat�ing of the shell is coated witha layer of insulating plasticmaterial.

Also there is an insulatinglayer between rigid labyrinthseal and housing.

Heat DissipationFrictional heat generated isusually dissipated by radiationand natural convection.

Water cooling can also beused, through seawater resist�ant cooling tubes submergedin the oil sump. Dimensionsfor connection upon request.

Temperature ControlTwo independent commercial�ly available thermosensors canbe used for monitoring thetemperature of the bearing.We recommend the use ofRENK resistance thermome�ters; alternatively RENK anglethermometers for direct visualreading.

Oil SelectionGenerally, any branded oil oflow foaming tendency can beused as a lubricant. The cor�rect viscosity for each operat�ing condition will be deter�mined by EDP calculation.Such calculations are alwayscarried out at the designstage. A print�out of theresults can be provided onrequest.

Hydrostatic JackingIn the case of high surfacepressures, provision can bemade for high pressure jack�ing oil. The bottom half shell isprovided with two hydrostaticpockets (one either side of thevertical centre line) with con�nections to a high pressurejacking system via flexiblepipes.

Further OptionsFor applications where thestart�up takes place at lowambient temperatures, thebearings can be fitted with aheater located in the oil sump.
