Course Description

This course familiarizes students with the scientific basis of exercise and fitness physiology, and related human anatomy including cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology. Students learn energy metabolism as it relates to exercise and how aging affects human physiology, exploring current strategies in exercise and fitness training to facilitate disease prevention and healthy aging.

Course Outcomes

Upon successfully completing this course, you will be able to:

Describe the components of physical fitness and performance

Define the process for evaluating health status Discuss energy metabolism and activity related

changes   Correlate cardio-respiratory fitness guidelines

with exercise and fitness requirements Evaluate current strategies used in aerobic and

anaerobic training

There are two major projects due in Units 8 (400pts) and 9 (100pts).

Your final project (unit 9) involves a trip to your local fitness center

Most of your weekly exercises require your Fit to Be Well book and involve conducting and interpreting lab results
