Competing against 18 teams, both the boys and girls GNA teams finished in first place, bringing back a pair of trophies. “I believe the boy’s trophy went to Central Lake, and the girl’s to St. Francis. We rotate the trophies around. The kids usually help decide, and everyone seems happy about it,” said GNA ski coach Doug White. GNA did not just finish first, both teams dominated the competition. The girls finished with 50 points overall, second place was Glen Lake with a 125. The boys totaled 36 overall points, followed by Harrison with 122. “Teams were watching us that know we have had success for the past few years, and looking to us to see what it takes to win. This was a good confidence builder, and a pair of big wins,” White continued. In the slalom, Kalajian (5), Klein (4), Wells (6) and Taylor Hines (8) had a first place 26. On the boy’s side in the giant slalom, Finn Husband (1), Christian Stellin (2), Gavin Mortenson (4) and Cooper Kerhof (7) were first with 14. Skiing in the slalom run, Mortenson (1), Stellin (4), Kerhof (7) and Jonas Pryde (10) finished in first place with a 22. The top 15 finishers in each race earned medals. For the girls, Hines earned a medal at number 13 in the giant slalom. In the slalom, Lauren Ferris earned at 10 and Kyla Pryde at number 13 both took home medals. On the boy’s side, Andrew Bliss medaled in the slalom and the giant slalom, finishing at number 15 in both events. Great North Alpine heads back to Schuss on Thursday for a Lake Michigan Conference meet. Congratulations GNA skiers, coaches, parents and fans. This is only the beginning, only just a start!
