(WIRED spoken interview with James Bamford) b. Unusual Mass, Speed, and Cogency:

Page 2: Edward Snowden on Omegle

In less than an hour, the Stranger had produced approx. 2,300 words, which is nearly unheard of for a website of casual users such as Omegle. The rapidity with which the messages were sent, their size, and their supreme cogency is grounds for suspicion. c. Latin Inclusion:

(Terminal F documentary “Alea iacta est, the die is cast” @ 3:30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd6qN167wKo) ES is known to use Latin terms/phrases in interviews. Also went by the pseudonym ‘Verax’. d. Parallels to Public Appearance/ Espousal of General Principles:

The Omegle conversation took place on Oct 3 2015. ES has publicly voiced his issues with the US educational system. In late September, he was featured on a podcast with fellow agnostic NdGT where he also talked about learning and educational systems. The fusion of these topics is noteworthy, it continues as fused (education/religion) from his personal life into his online persona.

ES had previously publicly indicated his agnosticism.

Bank2:

‘blah blah’ (Ars Technica) ES is also a proponent of ‘ftw’, ‘lol’, ‘crap’/’shit’ interchangeably, and ‘bullshit’. c. Riffs: ES usually expounds on dialogue with hypothetical quotes and humorous riffs.

Bank2:

(Ars Technica) Regarding quotations, ES places periods inside of the end quote, outside of the end quote, or uses no period at all, interchangeably. d. Emphasis through Capitalization:

ES uses various methods to show emphasis in text, but in chat has consistently preferred capitalization. Bank2:

(Ars Technica) e. International/UK Spelling & Abbreviation (yet maintained US terms):

 “philosophise”

 “emphasised”

Page 6: Edward Snowden on Omegle

 “organised”

“maths” abbreviation of mathematics as opposed to “math”

U.S.-preferred term “man” rather than “mate” or intl. equiv. Bank2:

 UK-preferred “analyses” (Reddit AMA)

US-preferred “organizing” (Reddit AMA)  Use of international spelling/abbreviation but retaining of US-indicative terms such as ‘man’ instead of ‘mate’ or ‘organizing’, plus a lack of intl. voice creates an odd, pointed disparity.   Text Sources: Ars Technica: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2013/06/exclusive-in-2009-ed-snowden-said-leakers-should-be-shot-then-he-became-one/ http://www.buzzfeed.com/ellievhall/edward-snowdens-online-past-revealed#.gvE4vANdp Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/user/SuddenlySnowden H47376123B
