Thevisualofthisfilmisonethatisofsimplicitybutofgrateeffectinboththe

settingandEdwardhimself.C.Mdescribeshimas,amodeloftrendy

respectabilityexceptforonething.Thismanmadecreaturehasgotshearsinsteadofhands,(C.M)Thisalonepossesalotofquestionstotheviewer.These

handsofhisbringhimpity,whichsoonturnstoaffection,andfinallyfearofnon-

orverylittlefaultofhisown.

Whenhecomesdownfromhiscastleofremoteyetsaferefuge,fromthekindnessorpityonecouldargue,fromthemotherfigurethatwouldchange

Edwardslifeforever.Heissoonswampedbyaplaqueofpeopletryingtoobtain

hisattentionandaffection,likehowyouwouldshowofyournewbaby,hebecomeswhatwouldseemlikeanattractionratherthanaperson.

Afterhefallsinloveandgetsinalotoftroubleforhisaffection,thepeoplewhombargedintohislifeabandonhimandbegintofearhimforhisdifferencelikeone

woulddiscardabrokentoy.Howeverinhisdecentshefallsinlovewithhimandgiveshimbackhislife,allbutkisseshim.Thisgivesoffgratedramaandalso

Thisfilmasksagreatmanyquestiontotheaudienceinsuchawayonewould

comeupwithananswerwithoutevenknowingthequestionthatwasasked.Itmakesonelookupononesselfandaskwhatif.AlsoitanswersthequestionthatwassaidallowedatthebeginningofwhattheoldmanhadyettogiveEdward,

whichwasnottheobviousofhishandsbutmoreofhisheat,hislove.Thatis

whatEdwardobtainedinthefilmandwhatistheunderliningtheme,theheartthatlethimlove,thatlethimbehumanjustonce.Heisthebringerofthepure

snowthatbringsjoytoothers,heisthesnowthateveryonelovesyetfearswhen

itduesnotgothewayinwhichwebelieveit
