Barriers o Time span to conduct the work with the urgency factor on getting results for students o Districts interpretation of what autonomy is available at the school level o Getting autonomy to the teacher level needs to be articulated Common Themes/Features o Defining the principles/components/loose-tight/having a framework/guidebook o Autonomy is given tied to student results (accountability) o Make autonomy live and be active at the school level o Ensure that autonomy practices address equity for kids o Governing body that includes all stakeholders o Phasing in autonomy practices with schools selecting in to build buy-in/motivation o Choice features for kids need to be considered
