•Out of the competition by the decree of Russian President, this status was granted to the first two universities: Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (National Research Nuclear University) and MISiS (National Research Technological University).

•On results of competition in 2009, National Research University title was granted to 12 universities, in 2010 - to 15 universities.
