Make certain the application is complete.
Analyze your transcripts to ensure you have a GPA of at least 3.0 on your Master’s
degree.
Contact you to set up a time for a structured interview.
Based upon the interview results, you may be scheduled for an interview with the Principal Certification staff.
All submitted application documents become the property of ESC Region 11 and will not be returned.

Thank you for supporting the ESC Region 11 Principal Preparation Program. Participation in the program obligates the mentor to the following responsibilities:
1. Complete on-line mentor training. This training as well as the actual mentoring may be counted toward professional development requirements for certification renewal.
2. Work with the principal candidate to complete a problem solving task which addresses and attempts to resolve a significant problem/challenge in the school that influences instructional practice and student learning.
3. Allow the principal candidate to demonstrate skills with establishing and supporting effective and continuous professional development with identified staff members.
4. Allow the principal candidate to demonstrate their ability to facilitate stakeholders’ efforts to build a collaborative team (like a PLC) within the school to improve instruction, student achievement, and the school culture.
5. Allow the principal candidate to complete three site visits to diverse campuses.
6. Working with the principal candidate to complete other activities such as shadowing principals/assistant principals, appraising teachers, and attending district-level principal meetings as appropriate.
7. Communicate weekly with the principal candidate to provide information, guidance, and feedback.
8. Communicate with Principal Preparation Program staff during field supervisor visits.
9. Notify the Principal Preparation Program staff immediately of concerns related to the performance of the principal candidate when efforts to remediate problems on campus have not been successful.
10. Make a recommendation for the candidate’s standard principal certification near the end of the school year.

Thank you for supporting the ESC Region 11 Principal Preparation Program. Participation in the program obligates the district to the following responsibilities: 1) Allow the principal candidate to participate in the program.
2) Ensure that a criminal background check is completed for the principal candidate and notify the
Principal Preparation Program staff if it is not clear.
3) Allow the principal candidate to attend required trainings in June and July (approximately 20
weekdays) and on Saturdays and weekdays in Fall and Spring.
4) Allow the Principal Preparation Program candidate to assume a campus-level administrative
practicum position and/or allow the principal candidate to engage in a campus-level administrative
role for the duration of the practicum.

5) Arrange for payroll deduction of the principal candidate’s fees if the district will be invoiced.
6) Assign a mentor principal to the principal candidate for the length of the program.
a) Mentor principal qualifications include: preferably three year’s successful experience as a
principal or assistant principal, satisfactory ratings on the district’s administrator appraisal
system, excellent communication skills, and the time and willingness to provide
attention/assistance to the principal candidate.
b) A Mentor Agreement Form must be signed by the mentor. Should it become necessary to change
mentors, the new mentor will complete a replacement Mentor Agreement Form.
c) Mentor must complete Mentor Training and in coordination with the principal candidate,
complete a Mentor Training Form

7) Provide information regarding the principal candidate’s performance to the Principal Preparation
Program staff as requested. Contact the Principal Preparation Program staff immediately if the
principal candidate is not performing satisfactorily and in collaboration with the program staff,
develop a plan to provide the principal candidate with necessary support needed to improve their
performance.
8) Evaluate the overall performance of the principal candidate and, if the principal candidate has met
the district’s expectations and the requirements of the program, sign and return the
Recommendation for Certification Form near the end of the spring semester.
9) Provide the following experiences and opportunities for Principal Preparation Program candidate:
a) Must experience responsibilities and opportunities directly related to the role of a principal.
b) Must complete a problem solving task which addresses and attempts to resolve a significant
