Each year, more and more older adults are making a positive impact in
and around the Mt. San Antonio College district. As volunteers, em-
ployees, employers, educators, mentors, advocates, and more, they of-
fer insight and experience that benefit the entire community. That’s
why Older Americans Month (OAM) has been recognizing the contri-
butions of this growing population for 56 years.
Led by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) each May,
OAM provides resources to help older Americans stay healthy and
independent, and resources to help communities support and cele-
brate their diversity. For more information on Older Americans
Month please follow this link https://acl.gov/oam/2019/older-
americans-month-2019
This year’s OAM theme, Connect, Create, Contribute, encourages older
adults and their communities to:
Connect with friends, family, and local services and resources.
Create through activities that promote learning, health, and personal
enrichment.
Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.

EOA Day at the Ballpark
Mt. SAC Softball is defending it’s California Community College Athletic Association
2018 State Championship. On April 4, 2019 a fabulous 15 year tradition continued
with the women’s softball team inviting the EOA to a day at the ballpark. Our Mount-
ies took on the Chaffey College Panthers winning with a score of 4-3. This was their
third win in a row. From meeting the umpires to the throwing out the opening pitch,
the Red Hat Society of Walnut lead the fun. Esther Villegas, Queen of the Walnut Red
Hat Angels threw out the opening pitch for the game. Thank you to Esther Villegas and
the members of the Walnut Red Hat Angels for their continued support and a hearty
thank you to Coach Ruby Rojas and her team for creating a special day at the ballpark
for the EOA/AWD Department.

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s Los Angeles Regional Office in part-
nership with Mt. San Antonio College and the city of Walnut provided a senior outreach pro-
gram. Participants were educated on various investment products, and how not to become a
victim of financial fraud and consumer scans. Students learned directly from representatives
from the Securities and Exchange Commission, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, the
California Department of Business Over-
sight, and the Riverside District Attorney's
Office . The event was held at Walnut Sen-
ior center April 2, 2019 from 8:30am to
12:30pm. It was a very interactive presen-
tation and students were encouraged to
ask the experts questions. Prior to the
start of the event flyers and handouts
were provided to educate participants on
protecting themselves against fraud.

The City of Walnut & Mt. SAC
16th Annual Intergenerational
Art Show
When I Was Young, was the theme for the 2019 Inter-
generational Art Show at the Walnut Senior Center. The
city of Walnut and Mt. San Antonio College collaborated
for the popular annual event. Artist of all ages were wel-
come to submit their work. The show ran from April 27
through May 3, 2019.
On Saturday, April 27 an artist reception and live auc-
tion were held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event was
catered by Brookdale Senior Living Solutions of Walnut.
Artist of all ages submitted their work to make this
years show beautiful. The art show was a group exhibi-
tion that highlighted different mediums including painting,
sketching, jewelry making and more.
Walnut’s Robert Watanabe did an outstanding job as
auctioneer as he truly mastered the art of bid calling
while he marketed the pieces. The room was full for the
live auction. At the end of the auction there was a long
line of buying patrons to purchase
artwork!
Many thanks to Robert Watanabe
and Gabriela Encinas of Walnut
Senior Center and Mt. SAC’s Kelly
Conte for bringing this celebration
of art to life with their tremen-
dous amount of work to make
sure it was a success. A special
thank you to Brookdale Senior
Living Solutions of Walnut for gra-
ciously catering the opening
reception with a beautiful buffet.
