Introduction

• Education in Dubai encompasses the many levels of primary, secondary and collegiate education catering to various ethnic and linguistic groups.

• There are many public and private schools

• The medium of instruction in public schools is Arabic with emphasis on English as a second language

• While most of the private schools use English as their medium of instruction.

• The Dubai Education Council was established in July 2005 to develop the education sector in Dubai.

· Another area of need to consider is your child’s spoken language(s). Dubai is such a

multicultural city which attracts many international families where there may be more than one language spoken at home. This brings up some concerns for education since you must then make some decisions around language, especially considering the great majority of private schools are English-medium. If your child is not a fluent English-speaker, they will be likely to have difficulties accessing the grade-level curriculum which means they will not be able to understand key concepts and vocabulary.
