WHAT IS THE GLOBAL ACTION
PROGRAMME ON ESD?
Goal of the Programme
To mobilize education and learning to accelerate progress
towards sustainable development.
a. Reorienting education and learning so that everyone has the opportunity to acquire the values, skills and knowledge that empower them to contribute to sustainable development.
b. Enhancing the role of education and learning in all relevant agendas, programmes and activities that promote sustainable development.

Roadmap for the GAP on ESD
GAP Launch Commitments
Roadmap will be launched at the UNESCO World
Conference on ESD
ESD stakeholders around the world will be invited to make
their specific commitments to the implementation of the
Programme
Commitments will be presented on UNESCO website
Major Commitments will be announced at the UNESCO
World Conference on ESD
Interested stakeholders are invited to fill in the GAP Launch
Commitment template available on UNESCO’s website and
submit it to [email protected] (indicating ‘GAP commitment’ in
the email subject line) by 15 August 2014.
An agenda of universal relevance emerges.
The content and relevance of education is an increasing
concern.
Education is increasingly seen as an instrument to
address sustainability challenges.
ESD could be included in the post-2015 agenda as part
of an education goal and cutting across all other goals.
The Global Action Programme on ESD is a concrete
contribution to the post-2015 agenda.

1. How can one participate in the preparatory process for the
Conference?
Virtual Conference Workshop Space will be open for each
workshop theme in spring 2014
2. How can one participate in the Conference?
Participation in the conference is by invitation only.
Invitations will be sent to UNESCO Member States in spring
2014 and other relevant stakeholders.

3. Who will receive the official invitation letter and when?
Invitations will be sent to a Ministry in charge of UNESCO’s
affairs. It is MOE in some countries, but for other countries
it is Ministries of foreign affairs, culture, environment, for
example. NATCOM and a Permanent Delegation to
UNESCO will be copied.
4. What is the size limit of the country delegation?
The limit is 3 members per MS

5. How can one become an exhibitor?
Application process for the Exhibition by Member States, UN
agencies and other stakeholders will be open in spring 2014
(please check our website regularly).
6. How are the side events being chosen? Is it possible to
request to host a side event?
Only registered conference participants can apply for
holding a side event. The details will be available on our
website in spring 2014.

7. Will there be a Webcast of the Conference?
Live and on-demand video transmission is planned for all
plenary sessions and the high-level roundtable.
8. Are there funds available for Member States to attend the
Conference?
Travel support to delegates from Least Developed
Countries (LDC) will be provided.
