1. Education Daily is a resource for important news and developments in education including: Summaries of the latest education research Federal policy, statues, and regulations Federal and state judicial decisions Sample forms and tools for education administration

2. Using Education Daily After logging in, there are multiple ways to use the resource. Browsing Basic Search Advanced Search National Library of Education askalibrarian@ed.gov 3. Browsing Education Daily is divided into 12 topics, as indicated by the purple tabs at the top of the homepage. The lightest of these tabs indicates the page you are currently looking at. We are currently looking at the NCLB/Title I page. In the center, white section, you will find brief introductions to the most current articles. If the article is of interest, click on more to view it in its entirety. The pale yellow bar indicates subtopics for each purple tab. There are links to related articles at the bottom of each article. If you are going to print, use the printable version to preserve formatting. The search box will be available on every page. Basic Search The basic search box is located on the left side of your screen from any page. Simply type your search term into the Search for field, choose which of Education Dailys databases you would like to search in and click Go! Basic Search: Results Results are organized into: Links A Query Summary A Hit List The Links section shows the various databases the results are coming from: news archive, statutes and regulations, etc. The number following the database is how many hits came from that database. Query Summary shows the total number of his, what your search term was, and tells you how your results are displayed. The Hit List is arranged by database (starting with News Archive) and then by relevance. If you want to skip to results from a specific database, use the links in this section. National Library of Education askalibrarian@ed.gov 7. Advanced Search For most advanced search options, you will need to scroll down to the Advanced Search box towards the bottom of the page. Here, you will need to choose a category that your search will focus on. Once you have chosen your focus category, many of your search options above will change. Advanced Search: Using Categories Choosing a focus category will change the search page to: Limit what databases are available to look in Include fields specific to that category The Advanced Search box is now a Focus On box that provides fields specific to your chosen category, in this case Decisions and Rulings. Put as much information as you know in these fields. If you are unsure, leave it out as you may eliminate results that you would want. The Look In field is now limited to databases relevant to your focus category, in this case Decisions and Rulings. TIP: You can choose multiple databases by holding down the control (CTRL) key while clicking on them. Type your main search term in the Look For box. Advanced Search: Settings Box The Settings Box will also change depending on the category you chose to focus on. The date range allows you to limit your search results to a specific period of time. If you would like to be able to read a legal decision summary before opening an article, you can choose to show them on your results page. Find Related Words instructs the search to include words related to your search term. For example, if you have Find Related Words set to On and searched disabled, your search would include words such as disability. Turning it off would limit your search to results including only disabled. Number of Results per Page affects how your results are displayed.
