LESSON PLAN FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE YEAR 4

Theme : World of Self, Family & FriendsTopic : Unity in DiversityContent Standard : 1.1 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to pronounce words and speak
confidently with the correct stress, rhythm and intonation.
1.2 By the end of the 6 year primary schooling, pupils will be able to listen and respond appropriately in formal and informal situations for a variety of purposes.
Learning Standards : 1.1.4Able to talk about related topics with guidance.
1.2.4Able to participate in guided conversations with peers
Lesson Objectives : By the end of the lesson pupils will be able to:
1. Talk about their personal details in simple sentences
2. Answer Wh-questions given by teacher.
3. Converse with a classmate about their new friend.

Activity Teaching & Learning Strategy Notes
Set induction(5 mins)
“Sing Along”
1. Teacher guides pupils to sing the ‘The More We Get Together’.
2. Teacher sings along with pupils added with some body actions and gestures.
3. Teacher relates the song to the lesson of the day.
Song lyrics:

Presentation(15 mins)
“Hello new friend”
1. Teacher shows on the PowerPoint slide a picture of a caucasian boy.
2. Teacher then plays an audio of the caucasian boy introducing himself.
3. Pupils are asked to listen closely and remember his personal details.
4. Teacher shows another PowerPoint slide of the caucasian boy details typed out.

Example of details:1. Hi, my name is Liam Damsworth.2. I am 11 years old. 3. I live in New York, America.4. I have a younger baby brother.5. I come to Malaysia on a Student Exchange Programme.6. I am excited to learn about your cultures!

Practice (15 mins)
“Who is he?”
1. Teacher gives a biodata template to pupils.
2. Pupils are asked to fill out the Biodata template with the details of the caucasian boy introduced earlier.
3. Pupils are given time to complete the biodata template and they are allowed to discuss with peers.
4. Teacher and pupils discuss the details to be filled in the biodata.

Publishing(20 mins)
“Posto, posto!”
1. Pupils are divided to work in a pair and will be given a coloured paper with an envelope. 2. Teacher asks each pair to write a letter to the new found friend introduced earlier.
4. Pupils write the short letter together as a pair and may also discuss with other pairs as collaboration.
5. Teacher and pupils discuss ideas and write them out on the whiteboard for later references.
Example of ideas to write in the letter: 1. Introduce yourself: your name, your age, your hobbies and talk about your family.
2. Show appreciation: tell your new friend that you cannot wait for him to visit and you want to show him all the interesting and cultural places here in Malaysia.
Closure(5 mins)
“Share and Present”1. Teacher asks 5 pairs to volunteer to present.
2. Other pupils are asked to listen closely to their friend’s presentation.
3. Teacher gives genuine compliments to the volunteer presenters.
4. The rest of the class may hand in their letters for checking and teacher’s signature.
