Welcome to the Educational Technology program at Boise State University. We are proud to be one of the largest online educational technology programs in the nation! Boise State UniversityBoise State is a state-owned metropolitan research university, located in Idaho’s capitol city.  Boise is the state’s main population center, a hub of government, business, the arts and more. The campus is the home of 11 Idaho Professor of the Year honorees, the national award-winning "Talking Broncos" student debate and speech team and the two-time Tostitos Fiesta Bowl champion Bronco football team. Communication / Information Sharing

We use a number of different options to communicate and share information with you. As you will see below, Bronco Mail is the only place where you will receive important correspondence from us. You will find announcements, news and much more in the additional communication sources listed below:

BroncoWeb  broncoweb.boisestate.eduBroncoWeb is Boise State University's web-based information and registration system that is used by all students, faculty, advisers and staff. It is where you can access all of your personal contact and financial information, register for classes, send and receive emails via Bronco email, and more. The student center on BroncoWeb has links to directions and video tutorials that can help you use and access all of the information available. To begin using BroncoWeb follow the steps below:

Create A Password  - https://bweb.boisestate.edu > click "create a password” Enter your BroncoWeb Username, Student ID/Employee ID, Date of Birth, and

Social Security Number. Choose a new password, and enter it in the New Password and Confirm New

Password boxes. Select “Set My Password”.

BroncoMail  

This email system is used by administration and faculty to send students important information throughout the year. It is the only address where important information is sent to you from Boise State. You will use the same username and password for both BroncoWeb and BroncoMail.

You will be given a Boise State email address that is usually your first and last [email protected]

Notice that student accounts end in u.boisestate.edu but staff and faculty email accounts do not include a u.

All official university correspondence about schedules, courses, fees, deadlines, graduation, and financial aid is sent to your BroncoMail account—check it frequently. We also recommend forwarding your BroncoMail to an email account you use regularly to be sure you don’t miss any important emails.

How to forward BroncoMail to your personal email account Before configuring your email client for BroncoMail, you need to ensure your non-Boise State email account is configured to enable IMAP and POP access.

In Gmail, go to Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP to ensure your account is enabled for POP and IMAP access. Be sure to use your full email address ([email protected]) when prompted for a username.

We’ve used Gmail as an example but other email clients operate similarly.

Upon graduation, your BroncoMail account will be closed by the university. Please provide the registrar's office with your “after graduation email address” to receive emails from Boise State as an alumni.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many classes should I take? We recommend taking only two classes per semester, unless you are not currently working and have a lot of time to devote to studying. We never recommend more than two classes during summer term.

How many hours of study does a course require per week per course? In the fall and spring, classes take from 9-12 hours of study per week. In the summer, classes can take 20-24 hours per week.

What's full-time? We consider 2 classes full-time in our department. You must take at least 5 credits to qualify for financial aid.

How do I apply for financial aid? Visit the financial aid website at Boise State for complete details – click on the graduate student link on the left menu. All students requesting aid will file a FAFSA application as described on the financial aid website. You can find information about the form at http://www.fafsa.gov. Boise State’s school code is: 001616.

How do I change my name or contact information? You need to fill out the Student Information Update Form at http://registrar.boisestate.edu/forms/student-update.pdf . Indicate the specifics of the change. Make sure to include proof of the name change (court documents, new Social Security card, Driver's License, etc). Mail it to the Registrar's BroncoWeb Help Center: Office of the Registrar, Bronco Web Help Center, 1910 University, Administration Building, Room 110, Boise, ID 83725-1365.

Should I register for several classes and then drop some later? Registering for multiple classes and then dropping one or more later is not recommended. This can keep other students from getting in courses they need for graduation, hinders our ability to plan the number of courses we need to offer and it can take a toll on your wallet—if you forget to drop a class—because you will be charged for it and won’t be allowed to enroll in the future or graduate until you pay for it.

How do I add a class? Before the semester begins, you may add classes to your schedule on BroncoWeb. If a class is full, you can place yourself on a wait list to enroll in the class if a seat becomes available. You may continue to add classes after the first day of classroom instruction, up until the deadline appropriate to the session. See registrar’s website for dates. After the fifth day of the semester’s regular session you must obtain the instructor’s approval to add a class. Instructors may refuse to grant permission if the class is full. They may also refuse permission if your late entry would prevent you from benefitting fully from the class or would hinder other students. For help contact the BroncoWeb Help Desk at 208 426-4980.

Should I get on a wait-list if a class is full? Yes. We guarantee that every admitted student who is on a waitlist for a core course 45 days prior to the start of a semester will get a seat in class. Electives have no guarantee. In many cases – regardless of when you register, space will open up in a course by the first day of class, especially if you are one of the first three on the list.

How it works: If a class is full, the class status displays as a yellow triangle on BroncoWeb and the class details show the wait-list capacity. If a class is full, the class status displays as a blue box and the class details display the wait-list capacity as zero. An email notification will be sent to your BroncoMail account if you are enrolled in a class from a wait-list. If you have wait-listed yourself in other sections, please make sure to remove yourself from those wait-lists as soon as possible. From your student center, click on the enroll link then select the drop tab. Choose the appropriate term, select the class you want to

remove, and click the “Drop Selected Classes” button. Verify that the class was removed by printing your class schedule.

You can be added to the wait-list for multiple sections of the same course. You will be allowed to wait-list up to 12 credits per semester and will be added to the first available open section. Click on the course section number to look at the course details. The wait-list total is listed under the “Class Availability” section. Your wait-list position displays on your class schedule.

If an instructor decides to take extra students, he or she will send a permission number to your BroncoMail address. If you receive a permission number from your instructor to override a closed class, you must drop from the course wait-list and register with the permission number. Wait-listing will be turned off on the last day a student can add a class without instructor permission by session. For the fall and spring sessions, this is the fifth day of classes. How do I Drop a Course? You may drop classes from your schedule on BroncoWeb. Please check the academic calendar on the registrar’s website [ http://registrar.boisestate.edu/academic-calendar.shtml ] for the deadline to drop classes. If you drop a class after the 10th day, your transcript will show a grade of W (for withdrawal) for that class. A grade of “W “will not be used in GPA calculation. Eight-week summer block courses have different deadline dates. You will find more information here at http://broncoweb.boisestate.edu/files/2010/07/Academics-%E2%80%93%-Drop-a-Course.pdf.

Is there a drop fee? As a student you are expected to finalize your class schedule at the beginning of each term. Dropping unwanted courses as the semester begins allows other students the opportunity to add the courses they need. You will have the opportunity to attend the first class session to make a decision to stay enrolled or drop before a $10 drop fee per course is charged. The drop fee deadlines vary by session. See Academic Calendar Deadlines by Session table for the deadlines. Is it possible to take a semester off? Yes. You have up to 7 years to complete a master’s degree and up to 3 years to complete a certificate. Please notify your academic adviser if you plan to take a semester off.

Can I drop a course after the deadline? Yes, but it is complicated and not recommended. If you need to drop a class in a current semester after the last drop deadline for the session, but before the session ends, you must submit an appeal by using a form that is sent to the dean (or associate dean) of the College of Education. You can find this form online at http://registrar.boisestate.edu/forms/dropafterdeadline.pdf . You must read the instructions, fill out the form, submit a written letter, and provide documentation of extenuating circumstances that would justify an exemption to the drop deadline policy and mail it to the dean of the College of Education for review. If the dean or associate dean agrees and signs your form, then you can ask that your signed copy be sent to our office. We will proceed to request approval and signature from the instructor. The instructor may still deny the appeal. Once all required signatures are complete, Paul will send it to the registrar’s office for processing.

Can an instructor withdraw me from a course? Yes. However, you should not expect that an instructor will withdraw you for nonattendance. The primary responsibility for course withdrawal rests with you. An instructor has the option of withdrawing you from a course if any of the following conditions are present:

o You fail to participate in class. o You have not satisfied the entrance requirements for the class.

How do I make changes to my catalog, schedule or degree? Follow the details below:

Changing Catalog Years: Students always have the option to change to a catalog year that comes after the year they entered the program. To change catalog years, you simply list the later catalog year (Fall 2009, Fall 2011, etc.) on your Application for Admission to Candidacy, which you submit when you’ve completed 18 credits. If you have already submitted your AAC form, you have to file a revised form, which is available at http://www.boisestate.edu/gradcoll/forms/form_grad_candidacy26.pdf >. You may not change to an earlier catalog year.

Changing Certificate Programs: If you decide to change your certificate program after you have applied to the Graduate College, you need to complete a Program Change Form at http://www.boisestate.edu/gradcoll/forms/form_grad_programchange26.pdf and submit it to the Graduate College.

Adding a Second Graduate Certificate: If you decide you want to earn an additional Graduate Certificate, you can do so by applying for the second certificate on the online application to the Graduate College, after you have earned your first certificate. Note: You cannot have earned (completed) more

than 1/3 of the credits required for this second certificate before you are admitted to the second certificate.

How do I do a complete withdrawal from Boise State University? If you wish to leave the university in good standing, you must drop all your classes on Bronco Web. See the academic calendar on the registrar’s website for information on specific deadlines. If you do not cancel your registration or completely withdraw by the appropriate deadline for the session, you will be awarded a final grade of F and will still have to pay for the course(s). Complete withdrawal after the published deadline will only be granted by special appeal and because of extraordinary circumstances. Call the BroncoWeb Help Desk at 208-426-4249 for more information.

How Does a withdrawal impact my financial aid? If you withdraw from the university, you need to be aware of a federal law impacting your financial aid eligibility. Complete withdrawals will most likely cause you to have to return the unearned portion of any federal aid you have received. You will have earned aid if you withdraw prior to completing 60 percent of the semester. Call the Financial Aid Office at 208-426-1664. Repayment may also be required for unearned aid disbursed directly to you. If you are considering withdrawing from Boise State, we strongly recommend that you review the information on the web at http://financialaid.boisestate.edu/. You may also contact the Financial Aid Office at (208) 426-1664 for more information.

Where do I find information about tuition fees, payments, billing etc? Please contact the following university departments with questions/concerns:

Account Maintenance Center—208-426-2134, [email protected] The Account Maintenance Center representatives can research and explain charges, payments and financial aid disbursements and determine how these affect the balance on the student account. They are also available to help students with payment plans and to approve short-term loans. The center also processes all refunds on the student account. You can apply for a payment plan after you have been officially accepted on your Bronco Web account. Ask about the I-Pay program.

Payment and Disbursement Center—208-426-1212, [email protected] The Payment and Disbursement Center processes all payments associated with student accounts and assists students in understanding their student account. The Payment & Disbursement staff accepts payments in the office and by phone, and can also answer questions about payment plans and making payments via Bronco Web using Credit Card or E-check.

You can also find information online at http://www.boisestate.edu/finad/sfs/ . How do I order transcripts? Current students and former students with Bronco Web

access can order and pay for their official transcripts online through BroncoWeb. This is the preferred method of ordering because it reduces paperwork and generally produces a next-day turn-around on orders. You can print unofficial transcripts from BroncoWeb anytime.

How do I get my grades? You can view your grades on BroncoWeb after instructors post final grades. From your BroncoWeb Student Center, select Grades from the “other” academic drop down menu.

How do I transfer credits? Boise State University master’s programs may accept up to nine graduate-level academic credits from regionally accredited institutions—unless those credits applied to a completed master’s program. Check out EdTech’s complete transfer policy at http://edtech.boisestate.edu/newsletter/BSU_EDTECH_Transfer_Credit_Policy.pdf.

Important Resources You are responsible to complete all paperwork, file all forms required by the Graduate College and meet all university deadlines. The following resources have been created to help you track all of the details. If you miss a key deadline or fail to complete paperwork on time, your graduation could be delayed.

http://registrar.boisestate.edu/academic-calendar.shtml.These calendars list all of the registration deadline dates for the current catalog year and policy deadlines by semester and session, for the following: registration, adding and dropping classes, and withdrawals. You are strongly encouraged to familiarize yourself with these calendars, especially the “Deadlines by Session” table, as you will be held accountable for meeting these deadlines.

Required Forms (See Appendix for URLs) Specific forms are required to be filed at specific milestones in your certificate and/or degree programs. The forms listed below are the most common forms used by students.

PPSGC (Proposed Plan of Study for a Graduate Certificate)Students who applied to a graduate certificate program (as a stand-alone program or as a specialization associated with a master’s program) need to submit a Proposed Plan of Study for a Graduate Certificate. The PPSGC is essentially a contract that says that you will earn a graduate certificate when you successfully complete the courses listed on the form. Access the form at http://www.boisestate.edu/gradcoll/forms/form_grad_certificate26.pdf and submit it when you send in your application essay and program development form. The Graduate College requires an original signature on this form, so we recommend that you save it—unsigned—to your hard drive and then attach it to an email to Paul Castelin in our department. His address is [email protected] . In the email, note that the PPSGC is attached and give Paul authority to sign your name on the form in your behalf. He will collect the required department signatures and then take it to the Graduate College for you.

AAC (Application for Admission to Candidacy) Admitted master’s students fill-out and submit an Application for Admission to Candidacy form—accessed at http://www.boisestate.edu/gradcoll/forms/form_grad_candidacy26.pdf —when they have completed 18 credits. Put onto the form all of the courses you worked out with your adviser and attach it to an email addressed to [email protected]. In the body of the email, give Paul authority to sign the Application for Admission to Candidacy on your behalf. He will sign it on your behalf, get department signatures for you, and deliver it to the Graduate College. The program development form filled out when you entered the EdTech master’s program was a plan, but the AAC is a contract. Deadlines for submission of this form are posted on the Moodle site under Deadlines Calendar.

Application for Graduation EdTech master’s students should apply for graduation during the semester before they plan to finish; certificate students should apply for graduation in their first semester of class(es). To apply for graduation (master’s students with a graduate certificate must apply separately for each program), log into BroncoWeb and click on Student Center. Just below the heading [YourName]’s Student Center, look for the blue horizontal bar

Application for Portfolio This form is submitted in your next-to-last semester in the MET program. Before submitting this form, you must have submitted the Application for Admission to Candidacy form and have applied for graduation. The portfolio course requires an application because it is restricted to students who have completed most of their coursework. Only students completing the M.ET. Program need to submit this application.

How to Enroll in Your Moodle Course

A few days prior to class starting, an email from your instructor will be sent to your Bronco Mail account. The email will include information similar to the following on how to get started with Moodle and your class.

1. Login to EDTECH Moodle (http://edtech.mrooms.org).

2. Click the appropriate semester under course categories block on the left side of the home page.

3. Locate your course and section number and click the course link to enroll.

4. Enter the following one-time enrollment key: "your enrollment key." If you are unsure of your course and section number, check your schedule in BroncoWeb.

Forgot Your Password?

If you have forgotten your password, click the Lost Password link and you will be able to reset it.

Update Your Profile

We recommend you update your profile in Moodle to customize your experience, such as your email forum digests, tracking forum posts, and any other settings you would like to adjust. You can also change your password by clicking the "Change Password" button below your profile.

Thrive In Your Courses

Each of our courses is designed with you in mind. Prior to Class Start Date: You will receive an email from your instructor(s) one week

prior to the beginning of the semester outlining how to access the course and other important information.

Instructors' expectations: Your instructor expects you to log into the class on the start date and at least three times a week during the semester. We recommend that you participate in class every day, turn assignments in on-time, and join the community of learners with enthusiasm.

Problem Solving with Instructors: If you are having difficulty or can't participate for a period of time due to unexpected or extenuating circumstances, make sure that you contact your instructor immediately to arrange a workable plan. Do not just disappear!

Grades: Your instructor will post your grades throughout your course on Moodle and your final grade will be posted on BroncoWeb.

Set the Date to Graduate

To ensure successful completion of your degree or graduate certificate(s) please read all of the following information carefully.

The instructions are for both graduation and commencement. "Graduation" is the act of getting your degree conferred and your diploma awarded is related to but not the same as commencement, which is the ceremony that recognizes graduating students for the completion of their degree programs.

Graduation To Do List Determine when you plan to graduate and develop a timeline to complete your forms

and meet all deadlines.

When you complete 18 credits, go to the Culminating Activities page on the department website to find the Application for Admission to Candidacy Form (AAC). Fill it out and attach it to an email to Paul Castelin. Be sure to give him permission to sign your name. He will get all necessary signatures before submitting the form to Graduate Admissions.

As soon as the ACC form is approved, you should log-into BroncoWeb and fill-out the Application for Graduation form.

Decide if you plan to participate in the commencement ceremony in Boise.

You will be notified via BroncoMail when to make commencement plans. You must respond to requests regarding commencement by deadlines stated in correspondence sent to your BroncoMail account.

In addition to notifying the university, please notify Kellie Branson at [email protected] at least 8 weeks prior to commencement if you are planning on coming to Boise to walk in graduation. The EdTech Department will be there to meet you and celebrate with you!

Diploma Processing: It takes several weeks after graduation to receive your diploma by mail. All grades must be verified and all credits must be checked before your diploma is released. There is a $25.00 fee for printing the diploma. If you are earning a degree and a certificate at the same time, you must pay a separate for each. Copies of Transcripts: You can print unofficial transcripts from your BroncoWeb account. To request official copies of your transcripts, go to http://registrar.boisestate.edu/transcripts.shtml.

Failure to Meet Expected Date of Graduation

The Graduate College and the Registrar's Office have initiated a policy and related procedures to address a graduate student's failure to meet the expected date of graduation.

Policy: The graduation date for graduate students will be allowed to change twice. If the student does not complete the degree requirements after the second date change, the Registrar's Office will place the student´s graduation file on inactive status.

Procedure for Moving of Graduation Date: The Registrar´s Office will notify the student, via BroncoMail, with an e-mail copy to the adviser, the program coordinator, and the Graduate College, that the expected date of graduation has been moved to the next available graduation date because the degree requirements were not completed. The notification will also state that the student will be allowed one additional move and if the student does not meet all deadlines to graduate by the new date, his/her graduation file will be placed on inactive status.

Procedure for Inactive Status: If a student's graduation file is placed on inactive status, the Registrar's Office will notify the student via BroncoMail, with an e-mail copy to the adviser, the program coordinator, and the Graduate College. The e-mail will state that in order to become eligible for a new graduation date, the following steps are necessary:

1. The student must contact his/her adviser and program coordinator and request that they review the student's program, help the student design a schedule for completion, and choose a realistic graduation date. The program coordinator then notifies the Registrar's Office in writing of the new expected date of graduation.

2. The notification from the adviser or program coordinator with the new graduation date must arrive at the Registrar's Office prior to the deadline to apply for graduation (this deadline is published in the university’s graduate catalog). However, a new application is not required, nor is an additional diploma fee.

3. The e-mail from the Registrar's Office to the student will also state that although the graduation file is on inactive status, the student will still be eligible to register and attend classes unless there is a hold on registration related to some other matter.

Our graduates are hired in a variety of positions such as online teachers in grades K-16, instructional designers at universities, for textbook publishers or e-learning providers, school technology coordinators, regional technology teacher trainers, directors of academic technologies, and more!

Educational Technology is an innovative way to design, deliver, facilitate, and manage instruction for learners of all ages, whether it is face-to-face in a classroom, online, or a combination of methods. In our master's and graduate certificate programs, we offer instruction online to students around the world, using inquiry and project-based education. Our classes are typically hosted in Moodle, Blackboard or other learning management system, and we integrate a variety of additional synchronous and asynchronous communication tools (such as blogs, wikis, desktop video conferencing, and virtual world environments) to support your overall learning experience.
