Sustainability and ecodesign are key strategic issues for the design sector.
There has been lots of sustainability support delivered to other business sectors but the design sector remains underrepresented in this support.
stage 1 – feasibility study
There are a number of key barriers to the implementation of ecodesign by the Welsh design sector. These include:
• lack of control over the design brief• low confidence to introduce sustainability considerations to
design specification • lack of readily accessible and useful information• incoherent and inconsistent drivers from the public sector e.g.
procurement
The key enablers would be:
• networks and knowledge exchange• clear market signals – pricing, reducing risk and legislation• procurement process that are supportive of SME constraints• collaborative pitching
stage 2 – KEP
This KEP will develop a knowledge exchange network on ecodesign for the professional design sectors in Wales.
The network will exchange knowledge on
• ecodesign methodologies, management frameworks and processes
• sustainable materials• sustainable technologies • innovative business models
