Mighty Mums
On 10 June a team of mums from Year 2 comprised of Louise Myles, Charlotte Dent, Tara Hartley, Lucy Coxall, Maddy Palmer, Lucy Weeden and Alex Gower will be taking on the South Coast Mighty Hike raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The hike is just over 26 miles from Brighton to Eastbourne along the South Downs Way and involves a couple of challenging hills! Most of you will be familiar with Macmillan and the wonderful work that they do so if you feel minded to support us on the journey, our just giving page can be found at:

2 weeks ago, Heywood Prep was visited by two of the Wishford Schools group?s educational experts. One of the benefits for us of being part of the group is having access to their experience and oversight. Much of the support they give happens behind the scenes, but your children may well have met the team who were visit ing to undertake a detailed review of regulatory compliance, as part of the group?s programme of school development and governance.
A short summary of their f indings can be found here

Year 4 Reception
Year 4 are electric!
Year 4 have been learning all about electricity! After Thomas puzzled Mrs Evans by asking; 'Does lightning go up?', a lesson about static electricity and charge was created.
Trying to use like charges and their repulsion to f loat plastic above a balloon was very tricky indeed, but everyone enjoyed having a good go.
Year 6
Why did the dinosaurs die out?
This week Reception have been investigating how the dinosaurs became extinct. One of the most exciting theories for Reception minds was that the erupting volcanos might have had a part to play, so we have spent the week learning more about them.
"When the volcanos explode hot, hot, hot lava comes shooting out and it 's really smoky" said Henry.
Earlier in the week Reception made their own clay models of volcanos. Then the children made their volcanos erupt using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. They were so excited and in awe of the mini eruptions taking place in front of them but were less enamoured with the "stinky" smell.
Wishford Young Enterprise Award
Year 6 pupils at all the Wishford Schools have been challenged to take part in a young enterprise award.
They been given £50 and set the task of designing a product or service which they can advertise and sell to the rest of the school with the aim of making as much prof it as possible. They have carried out market research and produced a business plan for their product.
The class did a presentation to the school in their class assembly and in the coming weeks they will be selling their products.
Order forms for pencil cases from PPC (Personalised Pencil Cases) will be made available and an evening for a movie night is being arranged by King?s Movies. Next Thursday the children will be able to buy and enjoy fruit smoothies made by Rising Sun Smoothies.
The Wishford Young Enterprise will be judged by Dragon?s Den Winner, Jordan Daykin of GripIt Fixings and awards made at the Wishford Weekend at Hatherop Castle on 16th -18th June

Fencing
Our fencers travelled to St Francis School, Pewsey this week to play a match only two sessions into the term. This was a great precursor ready for the ISA South West Championships which are due in two weeks' t ime.
All our players fenced impressively and the matches ended with honours even. The teams of Ed C, Will iam P, Jack Z, Will iam B, Rebecca L, Michelle K, Dominic H and Oliver C.
Cricket
On Monday a number of year 3 and 4 children took on Springmead for their f irst competit ive cricket match.
Springmead brought large squads but the imbalance in numbers did not deter us. In the Y4 match some f ine bowling by a number of the team, Elienor and Joshua to name but two, restricted Springmead to just 212. We passed their total very quickly and went on to amass a f ine score of 236 despite having a f ield of 15 to try and pierce.
The player of the match was Joshua K who also was astute in his f ield placings.
In the Year 3 match there were many playing their f irst ever cricket match and the whole team gave an exceptional account of themselves. Some tight bowling restricted Springmead to several overs conceding zero runs, with Tom D and Violet G impressing. Springmead struggled to cope with the batting f irepower that Heywood had to offer, and an opening partnership of Alf ie G and Violet G quickly moved to overtake Springmead?s f inal run total. The player of the match was Tom D for his accurate bowling and stunning four.

NurseryNOTICES
- Please could parents ensure that their children arrive at nursery wearing 12 hour sun cream when the weather requires it. We do not apply sun cream at nursery.
- Please could children have a named sun hat at nursery now that the warmer weather is here. - Please check that your child's sweatshirt is clearly named. - Children arriving before 8.30am either need to be dropped at early club or alternatively they should wait with their parents on the
playground until 8.30am when they can go to their classroom. Please do not wait in the nursery entrance hall as space is very limited, thank you.
Jungle mania hit us in music this week as we started our warm up song then went straight into singing about lots of dif ferent jungle animals from washing their clothes to swinging from trees, the children enjoyed being zoo keepers and pulling dif ferent animals from the bag.
We sang about a puff in and enjoyed collecting litt le f ishes from the sea, the children f inished off with a song about zoo animals coming to the zoo, zoom zoom zoom!
We have been doing a lot of work with shapes this week looking at unusual shapes such as pentagons. We have used the shapes to make patterns and play matching games.
Outside, the remote control car has been driving around the roadway made up by Miss Fenton and there has been a lot of imaginative play taking place with acting out journeys and imaginative play with dolls.
