Dear Parents
Those of you who, like me, were at the Corsham Christmas lights switch on last Friday, were treated to a superb performance by our own Heywood Harmonies.
It was a very busy evening as ever and the crowds had a lovely, if chil ly t ime amongst the stalls in the High Street.
The Gazette and Herald were there to capture the photo (right) and to write the following in this week's edition:
"There were so many of the Heywood Harmonies group that they could not all f it on stage but they were fantastic."
This is the last newsletter of the term so I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and I will see you all again in the New Year.
Guy

Fencing ClubYear 2 Dance Club
En Garde!
Our f inal f ixture of the term saw us host St Francis from Pewsey. Both teams fenced very well against slightly older competit ion and our fencing pupils can be pleased with their spirited resistance. Our time will come - hopefully next term.
Well done to the teams for this match:
Jack Z, Alec L, Alexander F and Dominic H
Will H, George F, Elliott E, Thomas S and Oliver K
This term has seen a great number of new fencers starting and I have been very pleased with everyone's progress. With more matches planned for next term, we will start seeing the efforts in training convert to wins on the piste. Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas.
London 1666
This week, Year Two enjoyed a f iery and dramatic end to their Autumn Term topic, "Fire". Their Tudor style houses that they made in DT were spectacularly set alight, and pupils were able to see how the f ire has spread so quickly back in 1666 due to the closeness of the building and the materials used in building the houses.
The wonderful Fire Off icers from Corsham Fire Station were on hand to extinguish the f lames and kindly stayed to allow every child in the school to explore the f ire engine. Thank you so much to our parent and Fire Off icer, Mr Butson for supporting this event.
Year Two also brought in their topic projects, which were beautifully presented. As always, we were so impressed with the efforts of the children. Prizes were awarded for presentation, content, effort and "Top Topic" for the best overall project. Mrs Bidgood and Mrs Hill
Strictly Come Dancing!
All 3 dance clubs have had a busy term producing some really lovely work.
Prep: This term's theme had to be all about Strictly Come Dancing. The children performed some jive routines to their parents (see their warm up in the following clip), choreographed their own Charleston and had lots of caped fun with the Paso Doble. Towards then end of term we left strictly behind to work on a dance to accompany the choir which they will perform at Candles by Candlelight.
Pre Prep
After spending the f irst half term on technique we spent the second re-enacting the classic Mick Inkpen story, Penguin Small culminating in a performance for the parents. This involved some audience participation....Mr Jessop and Mr Hartley were particularly good at releasing their inner penguins!
Nursery
The children have had many wonderful dance adventures this term, themes have included Under the Sea, Bugs and Bonfire Night. They also had fun making an imaginary dance cake to coincide with The Great Heywood Bake Off.
Parent Jivers
Some wonderful parents joined me on a Sunday Evening to master the basics of Jive, renaming some of the steps and really making the dance their own. Watch out for them on the dance f loors this Christmas or even better join them in our new Sunday night Adult Modern Classes.
Dancers of the term:
Verity G for using some wonderful adjectives to describe dif ferent styles of dance and transposing them into movement.
Faye J for her enthusiasm in general but specif ically her aptitude to allegro (jumps!)
Josephine B for some beautiful dancing, leading the newer members by example and

Christmas is Coming! This week we have been entertained and delighted by our younger children's Nativity plays.
On Wednesday evening Reception performed "Our First Nativity" and, being the f irst one they have done on their own without the support of the older children, they were totally delightful. It was definitely a good decision for them to star themselves. All the members of staff who stayed behind to watch said the following morning that, when you think that only 11 weeks ago the children were all new to school and suffering varying degrees of shyness, they were so confident and performed so well.
On Thursday evening the Year 1 and 2 children took to the stage and with confidence in abundance to perform "Lights, Camel, Action". The enthusiasm with which they all embraced their roles and threw themselves into their 'strictly come dancing' routines was a sight to behold!
On Friday morning we opened the hall to our youngest performers for the Nursery Nativity Play. We are so very proud of them for their courage in standing up in front of a room very full of their families to perform, most for the very f irst t ime. The whole play was utterly enchanting.
On Monday evening the Prep Department will be singing in their at St Bartholomew's Church in their atmospheric and more traditional Carols by Candlelight.
We hope that, by the end of term we have managed to put everyone into the Christmas mood.

Junior Girls? Hockey @ Stonar
Year 3 On Monday the year three girls went to Stonar for a match. Our score was a 3-1 win. In our game we played well attacking and dribbling the ball forward and passing into space. This was our last hockey match and next year we would like to improve on remember not to crowed the ball. My man of the match is Elena for always trying to score a goal and making excellent tackling.
Elizabeth, Year 3
Year 3
We won the match 4-1. We passed the ball well, looking for players in wide positions and getting players in front of the ball. At t imes our defenders drif ted too high up the pitch leaving gaps for Stonar to counter attack. Violet was the player of the match because she called out the players? name so she could have the ball also she did some very good passing.
Michelle, Year 3
Year 4
The captain was Florence, Heywood vs Stonar Under 9's. We lost the match 5-2. Up against a very good Stonar team, we played well in defence and made lots of strong tackles around the D. We need to make stronger passes when hitt ing the ball out. Emily N was player of the match for making lots of excellent tackles. Hattie also played really well, scoring two very good goals.
Florence, Year 4
Well done to al l the Heywood hockey teams for their huge improvement over the term. Miss Park and Mrs Cammiade have been very impressed with everyone?s excel lent ef forts on and of f the hockey pitch. We look forward to start ing our netbal l season in the Spring term.
SNR Rugby v Warminster
On Wednesday 7th December Heywood played Rugby against Warminster School. It was the hardest match this season. Heywood played a good attacking game but our defence occasionally let us down.
The game remained even with Heywood enjoying the majority of possession but unable to break down the determined Warminster defence. The f inal score was 3-2 to Warminster.
Man of the Match was Troy P.
