Goodness me!! Doesn’t time fly? Easter has come and gone, I know it was earlier this year, all the same it feels like

yesterday when we welcomed the New Year.

I was pleased to have been told by readers that they really like our publication; one particular “professional economist from the UK” who reads Web Express Guide regularly, has passed on the message saying “how true are our ‘My Opinion’ articles”.

Having said this, it always saddens me to see the amount of unnecessary negative vibes about the Costa scattered by so many so called experts seeking recognition through fear.

We know there is a recession, why make it worse? Why close restaurants and businesses in expectation of the spring/summer season? To save what? A bit of electricity? The rent still has to be paid and staff and costs can be reduced, however closing means that those few clients that would have come will go somewhere else but not return. You must continue to promote. Forget temporary closures, my advice is that if you can´t afford to run your business, you are better off to close it down and find something else to do at least you will contribute to improving the economy.

dicho esto, siempre me entristece ver la cantidad de innecesarias vibraciones negativas sobre la Costa esparcidos por los, se supone, expertos que buscan el reconocimiento a través del miedo. Sabemos que hay una recesión, ¿por qué empeorarlo? ¿Porqué algunos restaurantes y empresas sierran a la espera de la temporada primavera / verano? Para ahorrar qué? Un poco de electricidad? El alquiler todavía tiene que ser pagado y el personal puede ser reducido, continue promocionando, sin embargo, el cierre, que sea temporal, significa la pérdida para siempre de los clientes que irán a otro sitio sin regresar. Olvídese de cierres temporales, mi consejo es que si usted no puede permitirse de mantener su negocio, es mejor cerrar y buscar otro trabajo, por los menos contribuirá a mejorar la economía.

Good morning Mr Schmutzer, thank you for granting us this interview. I believe that the Escuela has been established for some time now.

Good morning to you too! Yes, you are right; we started the project in 1996 and opened officially on 17th Sept 1998.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the standard of this establishment is that of an institution.

You do not become an institution overnight; however after 15 years of history, yes we are an institution and we are where we want to be.

I have talked to a number of people who come to the school and I cannot fail to notice that many are from different foreign countries, even America. From what they told me, it would appear that the reason why they keep coming back is because the standards here are higher than in their own country. How do you react to this?

Some 90% of our clients come from abroad. Although we are lately seeing an increasing number of Russian visitors, there is good mix of different nationalities including Saudi Arabians, Kuwaitis and even some Arab Royal visitors. I think that the reason for this is because, firstly we only work with professionals, all our teachers are qualified professionals with a long standing career and what’s more important

they know how to teach horse riding. Secondly we believe in providing good value for money in terms of teaching standards and knowledge acquisition in the shortest time possible so that one can start enjoying the activity. This is particularly relevant for children and first time riders.

Is it true that one of your most successful areas is the pony club?

Yes this is true. Apart from the fact that we have a first rate head teacher there, who is “horse riding” itself, Julia Gladstone comes from a long family line of horse teachers. I believe she has a genetic disposition to teaching. Also there are hardly any pony clubs in Spain, we are just one of a few.

We take this very seriously because this is where students begin to form the basis for what comes later. It is essential that students receive the correct tuition right from the start. Horse riding requires perseverance, dedication and some hard work therefore it is important that young students learn correctly so they start enjoying riding in the shortest possible time.

As we said earlier quite a number of your students are from overseas, is this something to do with price? How does you cost of tuition compare with other countries?

I think it’s about the same, perhaps a bit cheaper.

We must to take into account that to maintain high standards of teaching, you need high standard teachers and this does reflect on our own costs. As I always say, you get what you pay for.

What about more specialised tuition and tuition for adults?

Of course we have an excellent team of teachers the likes of Aurelio Guttierez and Paul George for jumping, Alejandro Asencio for dressage, all well known in the competition world and José Miguel Ejea for dressage, Karen Taylor for adults and so on.

Could I keep my horse here?

Our livery service is second to none. Anyone keeping their horses here knows that this is one of the most modern and best in Spain, even Europe. This is where horses get the best possible looking after. The best quality feed, best quality hay, top quality wood chips and beddings and the stable hands are professionals. Let’s not mention the availability of a farrier on the premises and a veterinary service, if required.

Some of the horses here are very expensive this is why we need to provide the best possible service as well as a high level of security. You can´t just walk in or park your car inside the establishment like in any supermarket, this is strictly controlled and at night we provide watchman security in addition to the electronic protections.

Do you hold competitions here?

Yes of course. We have various types of completions at different times of the year such as jumping, dressage and even the pony club students hold competitions and shows. Many of the 5 year old students of yesterday are now fully experienced riders and some are even making their name at national and international level.

I have never seen an equestrian centre as impressive as this. I assume you must be very proud of what you have achieved.

Obviously I am, however the funny thing is that my original idea was to build something for my three Spanish horses and for friends, but the problem is that when I put pen to paper I just did not know when to stop so I ended up with what you see; 268 horse boxes, 7,000 m2 of outdoor arena, 1500 m2 of indoor arena, and the rest far from what I envisaged at the start. The arena’s floor humidity is controlled by computer, even after heavy rain it can still be used after just 3 to 4 hours, once the system has pumped out the excess water.

Our beautiful setting and the purpose built building also help us to provide a location for special events such as weddings, birthdays, conventions, etc. We are like a beautiful island on the Costa del Sol.

Do you believe

Tripadvisor.com is supposedly one of the most successful online travel businesses and a huge company to boot with more than 50 million online visitors per month, 20 million members and 30 websites translated into 21 languages with an eye-popping turnover of 486$ million in 2010. It operates under Trip Advisor ® Media Group which consists of 20 distinct websites to include holidaylettings.co.uk and holidaywatchdog.com

A large organisation

TripAdvisor was founded in 2000 by Stephen Kaufer with a mission to help travellers all over the world enjoy the perfect holiday. Financing was obtained from Flagship Ventures, the Bollard Group and private investors but, in 2004, the company was purchased by InterActive. The company now includes many famous travel company names including: WExpedia.inc, Smarter Travel, and BookingBuddy.com among others and further information can be found at companies house - www.duport.co.uk

An interesting review

With all this in mind, I decided to check out their review page for the Ritz Hotel in London, one of the finest Hotels in the world. Out of 723 reviews posted at the time, 502 said it was excellent, 125 said it was very good, 43 said it was average, 31 said it was poor and 22 said it was terrible. To be honest the above reviews sum up all that is simultaneously brilliant and at the same time irritating about TripAdvisor, the right for everyone’s opinion to be heard and given equal weight and the baffling contradictions in the reviews.

“...beware the stuffy and outdated dress code!”

Apparently being dressed head to toe in Armani and having a Prada handbag just isn’t good enough for this opinionated and petty hotel. Oh! For goodness sake!! Visitors do praise the helpful staff and comfortable beds, but there are complaints about a musty smell and the dearth of gluten-free treats at afternoon tea. Surely that is the whole point of a rich afternoon tea! I am sure that if one asked, the Management would supply whatever the Client required.

On a more serious note though I found that if you log on to the Tripadvisor web site and type the words “racist” or “racism” into the search engine you are likely to be rather surprised by what you may find. These words actually appeared in my search in more than 6,000 reviews. “Pervert/perverted” featured in over 500 reviews, “homophobic/homophobia” in 295, “rapist” in 200, and “paedophile” in 42. Whilst the owners and staff may well have various issues with customers, undoubtedly using this sort of negative language towards people it could be used by others just to bad-mouth them and their establishments.

Also do remember that most of the English-language reviews are possibly written by Americans (13.6 million users are from the US, while 4.5 million are from the UK), so as UK and European consumers it would be prudent to figure out whether they would have the same presumption of service and style as, say, a family of four from New York.

Can we trust the reviews of others users?

Trip Advisor says that they check each review manually and perhaps this is or was the case. But I find it hard to believe that with 50 million monthly reviews and around 1200 employees, they are really

able to offer this manual review service. Also what about the various user scams that would make it rather difficult for Tripadvisor to be sure that all the reviews are true or reliable?

Taken to task

In my opinion, Tripadvisor has caused a great deal of frustration amongst consumers. It has definitely stimulated anger in the travel and catering industries. I am aware of many Hoteliers who are exasperated about the reviews and assessments that have been posted about them or their businesses and they are beginning to fight back. There is an “online reputation services” company called KwikChex acting on behalf of more than 1,000 hoteliers. The company estimates there are around 27,000 legally defamatory comments that have been made on TripAdvisor, “allegations that are false and should, if necessary, be tested in court”.

Tripadvisor has also been taken to task by Britian’s advertising watchdog for using misleading wording on its website. In an adjudication released recently, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) decreed that phrases such as “Reviews you can trust”, “read reviews from real travellers”, “TripAdvisor offers trusted advice from real travellers” and “More than 50 million honest travel reviews and opinions from real travellers around the world” breached two codes of the Committee of Advertising Practice.

Reviewers are required to confirm that they are giving their own opinions,

but since TripAdvisor does not verify the reviews, such declarations are open to abuse. In September, TripAdvisor actually changed some of the wording on its site and “Reviews you can trust” became “Reviews from our community”. Apparently the website has been targeted with fake reviews. While anyone can write and be asked or paid to write favourable reviews, some establishments are being given poor write-ups by rivals who want to boost their own trade. Malicious customers have even tried to blackmail establishments with threats to post negative reviews.

You can end up spending as much time choosing a place to stay or eat at as you spend away on holiday or at a restaurant. My advice is to use your common sense, do not believe what you hear or read only what you see yourself. Remember to take that important pinch of salt!!

The owner explained that his intention is to offer a more select menu to please the more select palate, at reasonable prices. The menu is not very large, which is a good sign, and it does tempt the taste buds with some out of the ordinary dishes. Set in a basement; it’s like walking into a wine cellar. It reminded me a one of my favourite restaurants back in Old Blighty especially patronized by professionals for business meetings. You will not get an English roast but you will get a good selection of tapas or larger portions. The food is traditional Andalucian however some of the dishes are out of the everyday “ordinary”. I liked the fact that one can choose the more private tables enclosed in alcoves away from the rest. Considering the cozy setting and the food the prices are quite reasonable.

Schadenfreude or opportunity?

Perhaps some squeamish souls will feel a pang of guilt and some may just take pleasure from others misfortune but either way the property situation in Spain at the moment is definitely a buyer’s market. Buyers can benefit twofold now because the pound will buy almost 25% more of the Euro than it did a few years ago and because of the economic setbacks here in Spain, property prices have become interesting and affordable.

Spain in general has become a bargain area and here in the Costa del Sol the property prices are especially interesting. There are properties available in Greece, Portugal and Italy but because their resorts were not overbuilt so extensively as the Costa del Sol, there are not so many properties available in these Countries and the prices do reflect this situation. There has been some dramatic price falls here in Spain caused by the banks needing to shift their distressed housing stock. In some areas the banks are offering high loan-to-value mortgages on properties which have been discounted by some 70% compared to their peak in 2008.

All in all this creates a great opportunity for buyers, who can now borrow up to 90% (sometimes more) of the purchase price enabling them to achieve very substantial returns in the future. Even high end properties are fetching far less than their apparent value, for example: a property recently valued at 5 million was eventually sold for 1.2 million and then offered to the rental market returning a profit of 19% net!

Beware and scrutinise

unsold homes in Spain which includes thousands of new build properties, there will always be a large overhang, meaning that demand will definitely exceed supply. This could last for some years causing a delay in any recovering prices. Also there is no guarantee that the price of property in any area will not fall further if there is a deepening of the Euro crisis. My advice is to proceed with caution as buying properties denominated in a foreign currency could hold risks for buyers who earn in sterling – problems which would not be encountered in Britain.

Raising funds

Most of the continental banks will only lend in Euros. There is always some risk to having a foreign currency mortgage when you earn in Sterling. If you can match the currency of the property and the debt this will provide some security. For example: If you manage to raise your funds required in Sterling and then convert to Euros on today’s rate, then wish to sell in few years the property’s value will be in Euros. In this case you could find that any gain in the value of your property has been lost due to the conversion from Euros to Pounds. As far as availability of mortgage finance in the Eurozone is concerned France still has many lenders who will be prepared to finance overseas Clients with a wide range of options available. By contrast however, Spain has far fewer lenders who will finance overseas buyers. The maximum “official” loan to value in Spain at the moment is 60% with interest rates starting at 4.5%. Italy and Portugal will lend up to 80% LTV but interest rates are much higher. Remember also that costs and property purchase taxes in Europe also tend to be higher than in the UK and usually exceed 10%.

Take time and do it properly.

Do remember to always use a bilingual lawyer and for goodness sake do not cut corners. If you buy without professional advice you will possibly encounter problems with full ownership or find that your title is impaired by unexpected debts. Do not ignore the protection of property laws wherever you are. Spain is looking at further ways to increase any real estate transactions by attempting to simplify the process. One of the main plans is to offer residency permits to foreigners who purchase property at more than 160,000 Euros. This has already been done in Portugal and Ireland. Look out for a distressed sale and check with your legal people that all is in order. Spain

needs to improve its brand image and strengthen the real estate laws that had not been enforced and which allowed some regional and local authorities to approve construction of houses that totally violated environmental laws or other regulations.

Spanish property is now less of a risk than it has ever been. If you proceed correctly and investigate your project properly then you may well be able to use very little of your own money and benefit from falling prices and the falling Euro.

Even if the Euro plummets or that the worst happens and Spain decided to leave the Euro, (which is not very unlikely) the value of mortgage debt will also be reduced.

Remember that getting good value rather than a bargain is probably the way to go.

Next month, the Fashion world will begin the bi-annual round of fashion shows. Brands and designers form London, New York, Milan and Paris will show off their collections for autumn/winter 2013. If you think this will only denote autumn colours and woolly hats you are far from what is likely to be shown. Winter and early spring collections now include miniskirts and sunglasses to name but two. It is not the case that designers are getting confused at all as it is now part of a much bigger trend towards a seasonless style.

With money being tight and people trying to be more careful with their spending there is a trend to mix and match with old and new giving a lift to an older outfit and bringing it up to date by copying fashion ideas from the experts. Mix and match is the order of the day and it is quite amazing what a little thought can do to a slightly tired look. Never be afraid to experiment. Handbags, shoes, belts, Lurex sweaters and dresses in brocade or jacquard fabrics all feature different degrees of shimmer. Be bold and create your own styles that can be worn from late winter and into spring.

So could this spell the end of the seasonal fashion show? Probably not – but its function will evolve. Instead of selling clothes, the catwalk is now about exposure. High-fashion brands have started to take note of fast-fashion retailers such as Zara – where deliveries are small and often, with stock delivered twice a week, for instant-access fashion.

Callejo flowersFacts about the 2011 vintage

Climatically the vintage 2011 is characterized by a harsh winter, as is common in the area, with a few cold months of rainfall (January, February and March).

In April temperatures rose with rainfall, favouring sprouting in early May. The Vineyard cycle elapsed normally and the phenolic stage was reached within the normal times. Summer was dry and hot, especially in July and August. The low rainfall in August and September helped to ripen grape tannins. September’s cold nights to warm days together, promoted optimum ripening of the grapes. The harvest took place on the 5thOctober. This vintage is considered by the CRDO Ribera del Duero as Excellent.

Elaboration

The grape was picked by hand into boxes and then selected on a table. The uncrushed, de-stemmed grapes were taken to the fermentation tanks for a cold pre-fermentation at 10 ° C. The fermentation yeasts began the fifth day after barrelling. It was left to macerate with the skins for 3 days after alcoholic fermentation then it was moved to another tank for spontaneous malolactic fermentation. In January it was racked in French oak barrels to age for six months before bottling in July 2012.

With all the wet and windy weather we have had recently try this warming meal. Marinade:• 3 1/2 pounds bull’s tails or ox-

tails, cut into pieces• Saffron threads, as needed• 3 carrots, chopped• 1 onion, chopped• 2 small leeks, chopped• 1 red bell pepper, sliced• 4 to 5 cloves garlic . Optional.1 to 2 bottles Spanish red wine

Stew:• 1/2 cup olive oil• 1 (3-inch) slice of fat from high-

quality cured ham like Iberico, (Available at supermarkets) Serrano or prosciutto di Parma, chopped into small pieces, optional

• 1 red bell pepper, sliced• 2 tablespoons tomato concentrate or tomato paste• 1/2 cup homemade or store-bought demi-glace,

optional• Salt and freshly ground black pepper• Finely chopped parsley, for garnish

Roasted potatoes and crusty bread, for serving

Marinade: In a large pan, place the bull’s tails single layer, standing upright. Press a couple of saffron threads into the top of each tail. Add chopped vegetables and 1 bottle of red wine, or more if needed to cover all the ingredients. Leave in the refrigerator for 24 hours.

Stew: Remove the bull’s tails or oxtails and set asi-de. Strain the vegetables and keep the liquid and the strained vegetables.


In a deep pan heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add fat, if using, and render down. Add the strained vegetables and sauté until lightly caramelized, about 10 minutes. Add the caramelize all the ingredients together for 15 minutes longer.

Add the tails one by one, stand them upright and move aside the caramelized vegetables so that the tails contact the bottom of the pan. Turn them over and repeat on other side. Add marina-de and barely cover the bull’s tails. If nee-ded, top up the liquid with water. Add tomato concentrate.

Cook over a slow, low heat until the meat from the tails is falling off the bone

Serve the stew immediately, garnished with finely chopped parsley, accompanied by roasted potatoes and crusty bread. This stew can also be made a day ahead and reheated to serve the following day.

So, in search of the truth, I decided to consult the internet and as is the internet’s wont, it was full of rubbish. One piece of information I did manage to glean from the world wide w**k however, is, and I quote that “Avian influenza viruses usually do not infect humans and that only 100 cases have been confirmed since 1997; these cases are thought to have resulted from direct contact with infected poultry and that no known cases have resulted from sustained direct human – human transmission.” You have to ask yourself therefore, just what were those people doing to those birds? Now, I like a bit of chicken as much as the next man, but you can go too far!

It was not so many years ago that human kind was


huge program to vaccinate somewhere in the region of 20 million chickens against Salmonella and although this looked like trying to calm those bird flu scares a bit; it was only good news, after all, there can be no greater pleasure then dipping your little soldier.

So what’s happening now to send the press into raptures with some of the following headlines?

“Horsemeat has been found in France in a shipment of 320 tonnes of meat labeled “pure beef ” imported from eastern Europe via Holland, a local prosecutor said on Friday. The firms could not immediately be reached for comment. –Reuters”

“We know that the discovery of horsemeat in products sold in several major retailers, including Tesco, has shaken your trust in food retailers and the products we sell. And Findus said it had been told that its products were being made with French beef, not Romanian horsemeat.”

“Donkey meat was allegedly found at two UK firms raided last week as part of the horse meat probe. - Mirror News”

“Pork DNA has been found in Halal chicken sausages served in at least one primary school in London. -Evening News”

The good news is that pork meat, donkey meat and horse meat do not kill. As a matter of fact horse meat forms part of an acceptable, even sought after, diet in most countries worldwide with the exception of a few, in particular the U.S.A. and U.K. The sound of

laughter coming from the French and Italian equine butchers is deafening. Why? There in nothing wrong with camel meat either.

The bad news is that we should not be mislead and forced into consuming products that have been deliberately falsely labelled. That is where the problem lies, it is not the mad cow disease, it’s the mad people disease; we should make sausages of those who deceive others for personal gain.

It does seem that almost all meat has come in for some kind of health scare at some time or another and if you were to listen to all the horror stories, you might think about becoming a vegetarian; on the plus side of this radical thinking is the fact that very nearly all vegetarians are built like a racing snake, but that is only because they are too weak to make it to the butchers. If that is not enough to convince you that this way lies madness, then just look at the patron saint of vegetarians, Linda McCartney. Being married to Paul McCartney, you would have thought that she would have needed extra red meat to stop any uncontrollable urges to tear his throat out with her own teeth. And as that lady is no longer with us, it would appear that living on a diet of apples and tofu is not all it’s cracked up to be; I don’t like to speak ill of the dead, but at the very least, her untimely demise spared a whole new generation the “Linda McCartney meat substitute sausage”.

So I will leave you with a couple of words of consolation; if you fancy a nibble on a nice plump bird, don’t let anybody talk you out of it, no one ever came to any harm by gnawing on a bone, and there can be no substitute for any real meat sausage.

One in three cancers diagnosed is skin cancer. Melanoma skin cancer is the most serious type as it can spread to other organs very rapidly. There is a good chance that skin cancer can be cured if diagnosed and treated early.

Causes

Certain factors make skin cancer more likely but the main risk factor for any type of skin cancer is exposure to the intense ultraviolet light of sunshine.

Other factors that may increase your risk of skin cancer include:

• Fair skin that burns easily

• A family history of skin cancer

• Skin which has a lot of moles (more than 50)

• Red or fair hair and blue or green eyes

• Freckles

• Bad sunburn as a child

• Using a sunbed

• Your job - if you work outdoors you are exposed to more sunlight than if you are office-based

• Increasing age - non-melanomas such as scc and bcc are more common in people over 60 and are

rare in children

Non-melanoma skin cancer

There are different types of non-melanoma skin cancer including those described below.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC)

Also known as a rodent ulcer, this

is the most common form of malignant skin cancer in people with white and fair skin. It is rare in people with dark skin. BCC on the face may erode and damage your nose or one of your ears.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)

This is the second most common malignant skin cancer in people with white and fair skin. Again, it often occurs on areas that are exposed to the sun. A SCC can spread into the surrounding skin, and potentially to other parts of the body but this is not common.

Melanoma skin cancer (malignant melanoma) Melanoma affects slightly more women than men. Melanoma is uncommon in people with dark skin.

Treatment

Treatment will depend on a number of factors such as your age and whether the cancer has spread and if so, how far. Your doctor will advise you on which treatment is best for you.

Surgery

Your doctor will remove the cancer and some of the normal skin surrounding it. Skin cancers such as BCC and SCC can also be destroyed by freezing them with liquid nitrogen. SCCs can be removed by other methods including using a drug called imiquimod (Aldara).

Treatment following surgery

Surgery may occasionally be followed by a course of radiotherapy, or you may have this instead of surgery. The doctor may recommend interferon alfa-2b after surgery if there is a strong chance that your cancer will come back after surgery.

What can you tell me about car parking? Some available parking areas are free but some seem a little too far from the centre.

This is not exactly so as we do have several parking areas and they are all free.

Not just indoor parking right in the centre in Avenida de Andalucia, but also within the new Council building on the outskirts of the centre. This is a little further from the centre, but once the work is completed on this avenida, the shorter walk will be exceptionally enjoyable. In any case no parking lot is further than a 10 minutes walk from any restaurant.

We have also added another 30 parking places in Calle La Fragua, just off the calle del Pilar, on the right or on the left, 3 minutes from the restaurants and free of charge. Currently there are some 500 parking places, all free, within the centre ring.

What are you doing to be able to count on the co-operation of restaurants and businesses in order to overcome some bad impressions given to visitors; of course there will always be someone who just likes to complain.

I am not aware that we have given any bad impression to visitors. Clearly the Council cannot monitor every waiter or chef to ensure exemplary behaviour. However let’s assume that this is so, the proof is that we receive thousands of tourists from Spain and the rest of the world and we have never heard of any news regarding our bad impression. Furthermore anyone who has come to Benahavis always comes back to visit, which I think is relevant.

An Exclusive, not political, interview with the Mayor of Benahavís

It is conceivable that that some individual tourist may have had some disagreement in some restaurant but this would be an isolated incident specific to that business to be resolved privately. The Council cannot enter into such arguments. On the other hand I doubt that a bad impression of Benahavis can be created just because some restaurant did not meet with someone’s expectation.

Renting and ease of new business formalities.

The Council has no way of acting as mediator. With regards to business opening formalities in Benhavis these are fast and easy.

Whenever anyone wants to start a business all he has to do is present the required documentation and request and just start the business right away. With regards to the type of business, our administration does make certain requests, however they are very easy to comply with. Under normal circumstances, a business can be started while waiting for the permit; always and in all cases one can start trading immediately after presenting his declaration of responsibility.

Any ideas for attracting tourism now or in the future?

Our visitors know what we have to offer, everything in Benahavís is about golf and cuisine. To complement this we have quality of life in a natural setting that very few neighbouring municipalities can offer. There is not much more else we can do, what we do have to do and is being done by our Tourism Delegation is to preserve our achievements in this privileged location.

We always promote tourists and golf fairs which we sponsor as we also sponsor local sportsmen who compete in various international events. It’s a way to create an image and to ensure that the Benahavís Brand expands within the international tourist market, in particular the European market. For example the Benahavís Senior Golf Masters, some pre-seasonal football games with hotel accommodation and so on.

Are there any incentives for restaurants and other investors to offset the crisis?

Nothing in particular, but all in general; that is to say that as Council we organise events that attract tourism, we promote our restaurants in every fair we attend and we always maintain a good rapport with all businesses. When the crisis tightens it is difficult to escape it. We do not have a magic wand but we do everything we can whith what is available to encourage tourism as I have explained above.

Do you visit the Benahavís businesses regularly?

I am from Benahavís and I live in Benahavís. I was born here and walked on these streets and although I am now the Mayor I am very clear as to who I am and whence I come. The Pueblo is my life and in the Pueblo a live the good moments and I share the pains of my neighbours. It is not a question of visiting the Pueblo, I live in it and as Mayor I live for it.

Would you like to add any further Comment that you consider opportune?

Firstly I would like to thank your publication for giving us the opportunity to reach so many readers and be known by more people.

I would simply like to add that Benahavís offers many attractions and is a very cosy Pueblo.

It’s not for nothing that the number of natives is much lower than that of foreign residents. I wish to add that anyone who chose to live here is most welcome and well received and we consider them all as part of us.

Furthermore we are very lucky in that our foreign residents participate in everything. There is no activity or fiesta of any kind in which they do not take part. This is a reason to be proud of for all municipal councillors as well as the people of Benahavís.

Hold the thought that until 18th Mercury is retrograde and that many may be fooled into thinking all is well when financially it is anything but. Fissures could appear just after the New Moon (11th) and escalate toward month end. It might suit you to set aside time between 13th and 16th to make contact with those who

‘set the rules’.

GEMINI(May 21-June 21)

Perhaps more than any other sign you understand that commerce can change from positive to negative activity very quickly indeed. You may be right in suspecting that soaring markets can’t last. VIRGO(August 23-September 22)

Mercury moved into your opposite sign on February 5th. It doesn’t leave (covering a long retrograde period) until April 14th. Until just after the New Moon (11th) you may not feel
