BATTERY MAINTENANCE TIPS

Extend battery life with a well matched alternator.

Good charge regulation means that the alternator can

cope with the demand for electric current and that it is

supplying a surplus charge of at least 10 A. Incorrect

charge regulation will mean that peak consumption is

being handled by the batteries. This may result in

reduced battery life and may cause starting difficulties.

The external condition of the batteries and the charging circuit should be inspected regularly. Many problems associated with batteries and charging can be prevented by following some simple maintenance advice. Remember that all battery maintenance is particularly important during cold or very hot weather.

n Make sure that the batteries and battery terminals are clean. Oxidation and dirt can result in current leakage and a voltage drop.

n Check that the battery connections are intact. Grease battery terminals and battery connections with terminal grease. Corroded battery connections provide a poor connection which results in impaired battery capacity.

n Check the acid level of the battery.

n Charge the batteries after the vehicle has been stationary for a week or more.

n Top up with distilled water when necessary.

Scania's Bus Service Exchange programme delivers a new engine complete with a two year warranty.

Scania is giving hard-working buses a new lease on life with a new workshop Service Exchange programme that provides a factory-reconditioned engine with a 2-year warranty.

The Scania Service Exchange programme is carried out by the Scania branch workshop closest to the customer and is designed to save time and money. It is ideal for route buses or interstate coaches that may have clocked up significant kilometres in a chassis that may be only halfway through its working life.

The Scania Service Exchange programme saves time by replacing the traditional model some operators have followed of performing an in-chassis reconditioning of their engines at their own workshops. Traditionally this has meant having the vehicle off the road for up to 4 weeks. Scania’s alternative is to provide a 3-day turn-around for the installation of the replacement engine.

Additional time required to complete the job in respect of these items will be agreed with the customer prior to any work being carried out. 13. Mineral oils are used in all circumstances. Fixed Price Repairs do not include semi synthetic or fully synthetic oils. If these oils are required the difference in price between mineral oil and the semi synthetic or fully synthetic oils will be charged. 14. All information is believed to be correct at the time of going to press, however, Scania reserve the right to introduce at any time modifications of changes to the jobs and or programme as part of a policy of continuous improvement.WARRANTY CLAIMS To make a claim under this warranty: 1. Return the vehicle to a company-owned Scania branch or authorised dealer. 2. Provide details of the warranty (including the invoice for work completed) when delivering your vehicle to the company-owned Scania branch or authorised dealer and ask the service personnel to lodge a claim on your behalf. 3. Complete a claim form if requested. Other documentation such as proof of servicing, invoices etc. may also be required. We will ask for this documentation if we decide that it is required. 4.
