EDITING CHECKLIST
READ OVER YOUR WORK AND LOOK AT THE FOLLOWING:
Punctuation – read your work out loud. Every time you stop, you should have a full stop.
Have a look at your sentences – and circle the conjunction (if you have included one). There should only be one conjunction in each sentence.
KEEP CHECKING
Circle any words that you think need the spelling checked.
Use a dictionary, word list or a friend to help you with the correct spelling.
NEARLY THERE
Put a wriggly line under all your nouns (do this sentence by sentence).
Does your noun need an adjective (describing word) or is it ok without one?
KEEP READINGParagraphs – do you have a new
paragraph each time the topic changes in your writing?
Talking marks – are your talking marks around what is being said?
GETTING CLOSER
Do you start a new line each time somebody says something in your writing?
Is there some part of your story that you could take out?
AND FINALLY….Could you make your story better by
skipping chunks of time? eg. the next day, 2 hours later, the next time, later that night etc.
Make sure the tense in your verbs match up – eg. present tense or past tense?
THE ALL IMPORTANT CONCLUSION
The ending of your story – Please DON’T end your story with “and then he died” or “and then he woke up.” Boring, boring, boring. Think of how you can change this. Talk to your friends or your teacher.
