Edith Leona Studer, age 94, passed away peacefully on a sunny Saturday aſternoon, January 25, 2014. She was born to Eldon and Lettie (Hugill) Roe on July 31, 1919, in Winlock, Lewis County, WA. She grew up in Winlock with her eight siblings and mother. Her father had passed away when she was only four years old. She graduated from Winlock High school in 1937. Later that year, Edith met Alfred Studer on a wheat ranch in Condon, OR where they both worked. ey were married on September 17, 1938, in Winlock. e newly married couple lived in Vancouver, WA, for a few years before moving to Lewis County. In 1965, the family moved to Battle Ground, WA, where Edith lived the remainder of her life. Edith especially enjoyed gardening, taking much pride in her manicured flower gardens. She oſten shared bulbs and starts of plants with family members and neighbors. She came to know the UPS drivers, as they frequently delivered purchases that she had made through flower and seed catalogs. Another pleasure she had was baking. She welcomed the family with her many desserts, including her traditional apple or peach pie and homemade donuts. She always had a new recipe that she wanted to try. Even though Edith never learned to play a musical instrument, she liked music. Some of her favorites were Floyd Cramer, the Statler Brothers and the Irish Tenors. She especially liked patriotic music. Edith supported the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Disabled Veterans of America. For a time, she listened to her political talk radio shows. Edith devoted her life to her family and was very close to her grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by her four sons, Milton (wife Sharon) of Napavine, Gary (wife Sharon) of Battle Ground, Randy (wife Judy) of Vancouver, Jason (wife Susi) of Battle Ground; two daughters, Sherry Condon (husband Ken) of Battle Ground, Sheila Studer (husband Ed Sedlak) of Federal Way; fourteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred in 1989; a grandson, Brent Studer in 1979; three brothers, Emery, Lawrence and Raymond Roe; five sisters, Lillie Snow, Doris Anderson, Nellie Amsbary, Maxine Bowers and Irene Hansen-Gossman. A private burial of ashes will be at Manor Wilson Bridge Cemetery in Vancouver. Family and friends will be invited to a memorial gathering set for a later date. e family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Southwest for their loving and supportive care of Edith in her last weeks. Edith Leona Studer, age 94, passed away peacefully on a sunny Saturday a�ernoon, January 25, 2014.
