Introduction
Edinburgh College has provided quality Christian education since 1964. The College is situated on 20hectares, positioned on a beautiful ridge in Lilydale, on the Eastern edge of Melbourne. The Collegeconsists of an Early Learning Centre, Primary and Secondary Schools - thereby providing continuouseducationforallagegroups.
In 2013 the VRQA approved the current name of Edinburgh College. This coincided with the 50thanniversary of secondary education on the campus. During 2015 the Board of Directors for AdventistEducation determined that the Early Learning Centre, Primary School and Secondary Schoolwould beamalgamatedintoasingleentity.TheVRQAapprovedtheapplicationforanamalgamatedcollegeforthecommencementofclassesin2016.Organisational changes in 2015-16 included the formation of a single College Council to determinestrategic direction, reviewqualitymanagementprocesses,manage finances, resources and facilities aswellassupportthelearningandteachingprogram.The Quality Adventist Schools (QAS) program, which had been introduced in 2014, continued as animportant self-improvement tool, which evolves a five-year review of 20 components of an effectiveschool.InOctober2016EdinburghCollegesuccessfullycompleteditsfirstfive-yearreviewperiod.ThreeimprovementgoalswereidentifiedbythecollegeteamandaffirmedbytheQASreviewteam:
1. StrongSpiritualCulture2. QualityTeachingLedbyEvidence3. EffectiveProcedures&Communication
CommitmenttobeingaCHILDSAFESCHOOLEdinburghCollegeiscommittedtothesafetyandwellbeingofallourstudents.Ithasazerotoleranceforchildabuseandhasproceduresinplacetoprotectchildren,supportthoseatriskandrespondtoincidentsorallegationsofallformsofchildabuse.TheseproceduresareoutlinedintheDutyofCare,ChildProtectionandChildCodeofConductpolicies.Allareavailableontheschoolwebsite.
In2016therewere305studentsenrolledatEdinburghCollege(PreptoYear12)withanadditional1FFPOSSstudent.

Principal’sCommentsWelcometoEdinburghCollege.Edinburgh College ascribes to a wholistic approach to child development that seeks to enhance allaspects of a child’s potential – academic, physical, social and spiritual. Provision of a positive learningenvironment that is safe, caring and enriching is the prevailing atmosphere across the College. Thelearningprogram isbuilt on this stable social-emotionalplatform.The curriculum is structuredaroundcorevaluesandseeks topreparestudents tomakeapositivecontributionto theircommunity.Awiderange of subjects are offered in the primary program so that students can build a strong literacy andnumeracy skillset as well as having exposure to practical learning experience. Such an approach ispredicated on the need to know the students’ interests, skills and temperaments as well as theaspirationstheyhold.HavingsmallclasssizesisanessentialelementinmakinglearningsuccessfulattheCollege.
Researchaffirmsthatqualitylearningcorrelateswithqualityteachingandteachers.Weareveryproudofour teachers and the strengthof their contribution to the success of theCollege. Teachers received arangeofopportunitiestoparticipateinprofessionaldevelopmenttoadvancetheirskills.Aquickreviewofthecommunityfeedbackdatawillreinforcethisclaim.
Beyondtheregularclassroomstudentsareofferedachallengingprogramofextra-curriculaactivitiesinaChristianenvironment,allowingstudentstodeveloptheirinterestsandskillsinpreparationforadultlife.WeremainactivelyengagedinaqualityimprovementprocessthatwillfurtherenhanceourcapacitytoofferqualityChristianeducation,torespondtofeedbackfromstudents,parentsandstaffaswellasthemostup-to-dateresearchonteachingandlearning.

StaffAttendance
College teaching staff continued todemonstratea strongcommitment to theirprofessionduring2016withanaverageattendancefortheyearof91.6%.
StaffRetention
In2015therewere39teachersatEdinburghCollege. During2015/16yearend,sevenfull-timeand/orpart-timeteacherseitherretiredand/ortransferredtoanotherlocation.Thisrepresentsaretentionrateof82%.
TeacherProfessionalDevelopment
Theprofessionaldevelopmentprogramfor2016commencedwithatwo-daysystem-widemeetingconductedbyAdventistSchoolsVictoria.Keynotepresentationsincluded-LeadingaRestorativeSchool,LeadingaSuccessfulSchoolCulture,School-WidePositiveBehaviourSupport-WhatdoesitMean?Recognisingandrespondingtostudents"atrisk",andEffectiveImplementationofChildSafeStandardsinourSchool’.During2016teacherprofessionaldevelopmentemphasisedwhole-schoolprogramsfocusingonlearningand teaching. All teachersmaintained their First Aid – Level 2 credentials andResuscitationupgrades,AnaphylaxisandAsthmatraining.StudentfreedayswereutilisedfortraininginICT,especiallytheuseofSEQTAas the studentmanagement software, theuseof laptopsand iPads for classroomteachingandlearning, as well as aspects of student wellbeing as it applies to student nurture. Staff also attendedspecialised professional development programs targeted at their teaching fields offered by the localbranch of the relevant subject association. Throughout Semester 1, we conducted a whole campusHarvardUniversityprogram–ProjectZero.
TeacherQualifications
EdinburghCollegeteachersarewellqualifiedandare teaching in theirspecific fieldsofexpertise. Theaverageteachingexperienceis14.9years.AllcurrentteachershaveaminimumqualificationofatleastoneBachelorsDegreeinEducation.OneteacherhasaPhDinEducation,sixteachershaveMasterseitherinEducationorLeadershipandfiveteachershaveBachelorsDegrees inEducationwithHonours. Theirexperience,coupledwithsmallclasssizesaffordCollegestudentseveryopportunitytosucceed.

EdinburghCollegeoperatesanopenenrolmentpolicyandisthereforeanon-selectiveschool.TheCollegeprovidesavariedacademicprogramfor itsstudents. Studentshaveoutstandingaccessto InformationTechnologyresourcesthroughthe1:1laptoporiPadprogramandcampus-widewirelessinternetaccess.
OurcurriculumisbasedonVictorianEssentialLearningStandardsandVCErequirements,whichincludes:

TheprogramexpandsinYear9toinclude‘TheChallenge’.Thisisapersonaldevelopmentprogramthatlooksattheoverallwellbeingofstudentsandteachesthemskillsforlife.
Year10expandstheoptionswiththeintroductionofCommerceandSportsScience,aswellasearlyVCEoptions of Religion & Society. Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) offers students anumberofoptionsforcommencingvocationaleducation.
VCEsubjectsincludeArt,Religion&Society,English,Health&HumanDevelopment,Accounting,BusinessManagement, General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Product &Design,LegalStudiesandPsychology.StudentswantingtotakeotherVCEsubjectsoftendosothroughdistanceeducation.

Student attendance remained at a pleasing level throughout the academic year with an averageattendancerateof91.5%.

ThetopATARscorefor2016was88.9.Ofthe29VCEstudentsinYear12in2016,23studentsappliedtoUniversityorTAFE.Allreceivedoffersforenrolmentwith95.7%ofstudentsacceptinganearlyorfirstroundoffer.6ofthe29studentspursuedwork/apprenticeshiporfurtherstudiesoutofthestateofVictoria.

In2013therewere39studentsenrolledinYear9attheCollege.26(66.7%)ofthesestudentscontinuedontocompleteYear12.Engaginginatrade,financialhardship,subjectoptionsorfamilyrelocationwerethemainreasonsforstudentsnotcontinuingtoYear12atEdinburghCollege.StudentRecognitionRecognitionofallstudents,especiallyYear6&12students’academicsuccessandleadershippotentialisevident from Speech Night awards including Values–based Awards, Academic & Citizen Awards, ADF,Sanitarium,DukeofEdinburgh,KwongLeeDowScholarship(UniversityofMelbourne),CaltexAllRounderandrecognitionofawiderangeofsportingachievements.

PastoralCare
College students are provided with excellent academic, co-curricular and pastoral care programs todevelopyoungpeopleofcharacter.
The Student Wellbeing Coordinator, Classroom teachers, Roll Marking teachers and Chaplains,coordinates Pastoral Care programs. The program includes: Social coaching and resiliency workshopssuchastheBuddyPrograms(4-yearold&Year5;Prep&Year6;Years5/6&Year11;Year7andYear11Peer Support program); class camps; Leadership Workshops including attending La Trobe’s NextGenerationYouthForum.ChaplainsconductweeklyChapelandWeeksofSpiritualEmphasisprograms.
The service program of the College is very important with students undertaking a number of serviceactivities which culminate in the Year 11 service trip to Vanuatu to assist with a community buildingprogram.
