• The EDI adapter is used to receive messages from the customer’s EDI server or VAN mailbox.
• The EDI adapter converts the message from EDI format to XML format. It is also responsible for
acknowledgements.
• The XML message is then mapped to the SAP standard IDoc.
• The IDoc then creates/updates the relevant SAP document (Sales Order).
• The same process is followed when a EDI message is to be transmitted to the Business partner. In this case,
SAP IDoc is converted to EDI message and transmitted by the EDI adapter.
