P.S. Feel free to drop me a line at [email protected].

am a low-maintenance girl. My daily routine, especially since having kids, involves sprinting through the shower, throwing on whatever outfi t

suits my mood (and schedule) before hastily applying sunscreen, a touch of blush and mascara.

That said, I’ve always been intrigued by the power of make-up. The boldest I usually dare to go is a bright lip or dark nails for a night out, though after reading my talented beauty editor Lameez Hendricks’ article in last month’s issue on how to choose make-up to suit your skin tone, I’ve had a beauty ‘aha’ moment.

Who knew that switching the shade of my blush could instigate so many feel-good compliments? Feeling inspired, I dashed to Edgars Sandton yesterday

to buy a new lipstick (beauty editor-recommended, of course).

I had only half an hour to spare before my next meeting but was immediately distracted by the fragrance section, where I liberally spritzed myself with my new favourite fragrance, Gucci Guilty. I then somehow found myself splurging on a bottle of Chanel’s vampy black Le Vernis nail lacquer and the new Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara – an essential for my make-up bag.

Eventually I made it to my intended destination – the Bobbi Brown counter – where I met Alicia Schutte, the brand’s regional make-up artist in Gauteng. “Would you like a fi ve-minute make-up touch-up?” she asked, as I was about to pay. Um, yes please! Before I knew it my face was cleansed, toned and

moisturised, with a serum and sunscreen applied. Next up was a complexion-boosting BB cream, shimmery blush and my beautiful new crimson lipstick.

I walked out looking, smelling and feeling fantastic, revitalised by a veritable Edgars beauty power shower and ready to carry on with my day. Try it for yourself and, as always, happy shopping.

WINTER RUNWAY REPORTClub debates this season's hottest runway looks with two local beauty infl uencers

The runway A lip stain has a nonchalant matt fi nish that makes your lips look as if you’ve been sucking on a colourful ice-lolly. At the other end of the spectrum, perfectly rouged pouts take extra time, extra product and extra precision. The real way If you’re after a quick colour fi x, consider a lip stain your saving grace. Using your ring fi nger, dab it onto the centre of your lips before blending the colour outwards. Your lips should appear merely pinched with colour – avoid an all-over saturated look.

Perfect pouts, on the other hand, take a little more work. Create a line with a lip pencil before using a brush to apply lipstick, and then dab with a tissue. For high impact, repeat the process until the colour reaches the intensity you desire.

THE PROS WEIGH IN Lameez Hendricks, Club’s beauty editor says: “I’m a big fan of lipstick so I’m happy to make an e! ort for an ultra-glamourous result. Lately I can’t get enough of this season’s deep shades of berry.”Thami Kwazi, True Love’s beauty editor says: “I really like lip stains: they give your lips a more natural look which is perfect for daywear. Saturated colour is better suited to a more dramatic evening look.” Liza West, from iheartyouroutfi t.com says: “A lip stain is ideal for me as I’ve never been brave enough to sport a bold lip colour. This look ensures that I have subtle colour, plus it’s quick and easy to apply.”

The runway Understated or over-the-top: eye make-up presents what is arguably this season’s biggest contradiction. Some designers sent their models down the catwalk with bold, sooty eyeshadows and dramatic eyeliner while others sported nude, barely-there eye make-up.The real way Feeling feisty? Feline-shaped eyes are a hot evening look. Using an eyeliner brush, apply a gel liner working inwards, starting from the outer corner of the eye where you want the fl ick to end. Complete the look with a soft eye pencil on your lower lash line. For a more subtle alternative, go nude with an eyeshadow that’s skin-like in colour. A lick of mascara will fan out your lashes for a soft and pretty fi nish.

THE PROS WEIGH IN Lameez says: “I fi nd eye make-up tricky at the best of times so it’s a relief that the experts rate bare eyes as a key component of an overall polished look.” Thami says: “I’m partial to the graphic eye: it’s the ideal opportunity to try something di! erent, and done correctly it can look very striking.” Liza says: “The dramatic feline fl ick is one of my favourite make-up looks but I often struggle to get it right. This season, I’m going to make sure I perfect the technique.”
