-ed and –ing Rules Rule 1: Words ending with a c-v-c pattern

One-syllable words: -ed and –ing = If the word ends in a c-v-c pattern,

it gets a double consonant + -ed or + -ing. Examples:

rub = rubbed hop = hopping
