As suppliers of cutting tools and holding fixtures, including a

large variety of services, we are linked worldwide with all

areas of the manufacturing industry.

Our key role in manufacturing makes it necessary to continuously study the new trends and

the evolution of the end users requirements.

The analysis of these topics in order to support the industry s future development is one of

the main topics of ECTA.

ECTA is a cooperation of national European associations, offering a wide range of services

and acting as a networking platform for the member associations and their affiliated

companies.

The European manufacturers of cutting tools

and clamping devices and their national

associations have joined together in the

European association ECTA – European

Cutting Tools Association. Getting to know

one another, exchanging experiences,

co-operating – there are numerous topics

which the European companies in the branch

urgently want to discuss among themselves,

and with their customers, suppliers and

co-operation partners. The ECTA offers the

optimal platform for this.

The regular latest market survey of the

European industry is an important information

service by ECTA – the individual manufacturer

alone does not have the possibility of

obtaining these important items of information

for the company management.

The Association

The European manufacturers of cutting tools

and clamping devices achieve annual sales

of some EUR 7 billion. About EUR 5 billion

of these are attributable to cutting tools and

EUR 2 billion to clamping devices. Over half

the total world exports in this branch have

their origin in Europe. All in all, the European

cutting tools and clamping devices industry

has more than 60,000 employees on its payroll.

Tools are supplied by the branch to nearly all

sections of industry. Whether the automotive

industry, aerospace, the railway industry, the

ship-building industry or machine building –

to name just the largest sectors in the metal

industry – they all employ cutting tools and

clamping devices on a large scale in their

production.

Admittedly, tool costs amount on average to

just 4% of the total production costs. They

are thus a relatively small cost factor in

companies' calculation. However, tools play

a decisive role for the quality of products and

for the efficiency of the production processes

in the metalworking industry. If a tool is defect,

the product quality suffers or the entire

production can even come to a standstill.

Looked at the other way round: The techni-

cally highly developed tools from European

manufacturers with exact dimensions and a

long service life are the key to economic

production in the metal-working industry.

The principal aims of ECTA are to act as the

central organization for furthering the interests

of all European cutting tool manufacturing and

to take action which may be considered

necessary in the interest of the industry and

members, including:

• Arranging meetings between

Manufacturers

• Providing a forum for the exchange

of views

• Studying technical problems that are

common to the industry

• Placing before Offical Organisations

the views of the industry

• Providing market information

• Addressing the industry`s key role in

manufacturing

Principle Aims of ECTA

The associations of cutting tools manufacturers

in Europe have decided to co-operate within

the framework of ECTA. They have agreed to

operate as a mutual agreement between

each Member and every other Member of

ECTA.

At the annual ECTA European Cutting Toool

Conferences questions are dealt with which

interest the whole branch and which are of

significance for the strategic company deve-
