Sarah Silver '06, The University Centers of the San Migue (UCSM), based in Telluride, Colo., has named their new scholarship fund for its founder, Sarah Silver '06, in honor of her work in envisioning and creating the only independent nonprofit higher education center in the U.S. Sarah’s research and thesis in the socio-cultural foundations of education focused on her rural education community development project and its transition into the UCSM. While still a Prescott graduate student, Sarah served as the innovative organization’s first executive director. Under her leadership the organization built the initial local government and foundation funding support necessary for its continuing success in providing a three county area of rural southwestern Colorado with its first, and only, local access to accredited higher education programming. She remains an active advisor to the UCSM staff and board. Sarah serves Prescott College as a Limited-Residency Undergraduate Program Mentor and Instructor and as a master's program Advisor. Information about UCSM and its sustainability-focused Telluride Summer College is available at www.ucsanmiguel.org.

Queen of the Sun - A Film Review by Michael Belef '99

Queen of the Sun is a spectacular, colorful cinematic romp with bees and beekeepers from the glacier covered alps of New Zealand, France, and Switzerland, to the rooftops of New York, and London, and the infinite pink blossoming California Almond orchards. The documentary relates the frightening consequences of colony collapse disorder in economic terms and the impact in our grocery carts and human and ecological health. Prescott College Tucson Center News

by David Greenwood

Since March, the Tucson Center has been hosting an ongoing “Brown Bag Lunch” for students, alumni, faculty members, and staff. Every fourth Tuesday of each month at noon, a group gathers informally for discussion and/or presentations – and the occasional apple for cookie trade. The “Brown Bag Lunches” are the brainchild of Sandy Paris, Tucson Center’s Office Coordinator and Lloyd Sharp, Master of Arts Core Faculty for Education. They handily borrowed the idea, they say, from a one-time visitor to the Tucson Center. “One day someone came in to the building and was looking around at the rooms and asked ‘Do you have brown bag lunches here?,’ and so we just started talking about the idea afterward and decided to do it,” said Sandy. They brought the idea forward at a faculty/staff meeting for the Tucson Center and it was eagerly and unanimously agreed upon. For Sandy “It’s an informal opportunity for students, faculty members, alumni, and staff to get together, get to know each other and hear what is going on with one another. It’s an hour a month out of our busy schedules to acknowledge and recognize our community.” The next Brown Bag Lunch is scheduled for August 23, 2011. If you are in the Tucson area grab you lunch and come by! Or give Sandy at call at (520) 319-

9868, ext. 101 if you have a question or idea. For Sandy the best thing about working with students and hosting Brown Bag Lunches is that “It’s interesting meeting students or alumni and hearing about their areas of study. We have so many people from diverse backgrounds and different cultures. Meeting people. And getting to know them!”
