Hagerty visits Economic & Business Networking Symposium

on June 9, we invited key stakeholders to join us for an Economic and Business

Networking Symposium. The purpose of the symposium was to provide an

opportunity for economic development stakeholders in Maury County to learn

more about relevant topics and issues that affect economic growth and vitality in

Maury County and to network among each other.

The event was held at the beautiful Watermark Restaurant in downtown Nashville.

Among the guests were members of Maury County Industrial Development Board

and Economic Development Council, private businesses who invest in the county’s

economic development and mayors of Maury County, Columbia, Mount Pleasant

and Spring Hill. The keynote speaker for the event was the State of Tennessee

Economic and Community Development Commissioner, Bill Hagerty. Commissioner

Hagerty shared upcoming changes to the department, as well as his approach

to bringing jobs and investment to Tennessee. After his address, Commissioner

Hagerty took questions from the audience, addressing some of the issues and

concerns specific to Maury County.

Also in attendance were Spencer Sessions, the TvA representative for Maury

County, Tommy Burns, state ECD representative for the county and Carlyle Carrol,

the Nashville regional ECD representative. Approximately 40 guests attended the

address and the networking session that followed. Thank you to all who attended.

Capital Campaign Event

Excitement and optimism were high at a reception hosted by the Maury Alliance on January 13 at the Copper Kettle. Business leaders and elected officials celebrated reaching the initial goal of the Economic Development Partnership. At this point, 150 investors have committed $2.75 million to support a new economic development strategy.

The Economic Development Partnership joins public and private sectors to increase jobs and investment in Maury County. Together, Maury County and the

cities of Columbia, Mt. Pleasant and Spring Hill are providing 40% of the funds.

Private businesses have invested the other 60%.

The Maury Alliance Economic Development Partnership centers on a bold

strategy for taking economic development to new heights through existing

industry expansion, new business recruitment, workforce development and talent

attraction.

The Economic Development Partnership continues to seek investors for the

four-year strategy that will guide economic development in Maury County

through 2014. Maury Alliance board and staff are accountable for achieving

the goals established in the plan. All businesses are invited to participate in the

Partnership. If you would like more information on how you can participate,

please call 931-388-2155 or visit www.mauryalliance.com.

IB Tech, in September 2010, announced plans to open a production facility in Mount Pleasant. IB Tech is a subsidiary of Japanese auto parts manufacturer Imasen Electric Industrial Co., ltd. The company will invest $50 million to manufacture high quality seat adjusters and eventually create 385 jobs in Maury County. As of June 15, IB Tech already had 10 salary employees and 6 hourly.

In a September 2010 press release, former Tennessee Governor Bredesen said this about IB-Tech’s initial announcement of opening. “IB Tech will be a welcome addition to the Maury County economy and I appreciate their investment in our state and its citizens.”

The facility is located in the former Avantech building at one Timco Drive in Mount Pleasant. Clinton Gilbreath of CB Richard Ellis represented IB-Tech in the search for an appropriate facility in Middle Tennessee.

“We are excited about opening a facility in Maury County,” John Freundner, assistant vice president of administration for

IB Tech said. “The location, support from community leaders, solid workforce and great facility in Mount Pleasant was key in our selection process.”

In addition to seat adjusters, Imasen Electric produces automobile lamps, relays and window regulators. Imasen Electric is an independent Japanese auto-parts manufacturer holding a large share of the market for automobile seat adjusters. The company manufactures a variety of products for the automotive industry and serves clients such as Honda and Mitsubishi. This will be their second manufacturing facility in the United States, with one previous operation in Bucyrus, ohio. IB Tech will start full production in 2012.

Companies Find Room To Grow In Maury County

SekisuiSekisui Plastics USA is currently expanding and has

purchased the neighboring Kitty Hawk building to

accommodate growth. The expansion is a 3 million

investment with 25 new jobs by 2015. The Mt. Pleasant

location, which opened in 2006, currently occupies a 42,000

square foot facility. The plant produces the proprietary

Piocelan foam, made from a blend of polystyrene and

polyethylene. Piocelan is used in auto interiors. When the

expansion is complete, Sekisui Plastics USA will have an

approximately 92,000 square foot facility.

IntegrityIntegrity in Spring Hill has leased the old Delphi Building for

expansion. Integrity is a worldwide supplier of innovative

and specialty nutraceutical ingredients, including amino

acids, creatine, glucose support, joint and health care, sports

nutrition, and specialty items.

While the current expansion will not bring a large employee

increase, the company has been increasing their numbers and

will continue to do so with further growth taking place over the

next few years.
