What They Are

• A wall of plants that are designed to grow vertically.

• Used in areas of limited space.

• 2 types:

– Green Facades

– Green Walls

• Capable of reducing energy usage within a building

Page 3: Eco Walls Powerpoint

How they are produced

• Built onto an existing structure:

– Interior wall

– Facade

• Built using an intricate system of wires and cables to create a lattice.

• Use a soil box

– Replaced every 6 months

Wall Mounted System

• These systems are mounted on an existing wall or other vertical structure.

Page 5: Eco Walls Powerpoint

Freestanding System

• These systems allow you to place your green wall basically wherever you want because a supporting structure or wall is not necessary.

Page 6: Eco Walls Powerpoint

Economic Aspect

• Can reduce energy costs by performing several tasks.

• In urban areas can be used as ecotourism.

• LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)

Page 7: Eco Walls Powerpoint

Ecological Aspect

• Designed to create biotopes

• Increase biodiversity

• Aquaponics

• Used to attract Wildlife

Environmental Aspect

• Green Wall panels are free from CFCs, HCFCs, and any other material with ozone depletion.

• The panels manufacturers use are 100% recyclable.

• The Green Liver

– Air quality

– Grey Water treatment

Pros

• Cleans outside air pollutants and offsets carbon footprint of people and fuels emissions.

• Cleans interior air space by removing VOCs and other harmful toxins like benzene and formaldehyde.

• Acts as a sound proofing barrier. • Insulates and cools building envelope. • Made in USA, not imported from overseas. • The metal panels are not susceptible to cracking from

freezing and thawing or UV degradation like plastic counterparts.

• Employs local labor and provides green jobs for regional installations.

Page 10: Eco Walls Powerpoint

Cons

• Relatively expense

• Have to be cut into small pieces to move

• The metals used for scaffolding can add to the price.

• The plants need to be maintained at least twice a year.

Page 11: Eco Walls Powerpoint

Cost

• Small systems can cost several hundred dollars.

• All the equipment needed will add several hundred more.

• Larger systems can cost a couple thousand dollars.
