1.3 MANAGING VOCS

Ventilation requirements for Océ CS9160 using Bio-lactite, Low solvent Ultra or Eco Solvent inks The Océ CS9160 can make use of three types of ink:

• IJC940 Océ Bio-Lactite Ink • IJC935 Océ LS Ultra Ink • Océ IJC930 Eco Solvent ink

All three inks contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The concentration of VOCs in the print room during operation of the Océ CS9160 depends on multiple factors: room volume, ventilation rate, print speed, number of prints, print mode, number of printers in the room, heater settings, kind of media, etc. In order to avoid any health risk related to VOCs and to ensure a safe work environment, Océ advises to use these inks only in a well ventilated area. The user needs to take all necessary precautions in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations. For each ink a specific recommendation is prepared for use in an Océ 9160 (see table 1).

Table 1: Ventilation requirements for use of Océ CS9160

Type of Ink APS used (*) Minimum room volume

Required ventilation rate Hourly ventilated volume

Ink IJC940 Océ Bio-Lactite

Yes, recommended

50 m3 Additional local exhaust ventilation

300 m3/h

No 300 m3 Room ventilation, 5 times per hour

1500 m3/h

IJC935 Océ LS Ultra Ink Yes, required 50 m3 Additional local exhaust ventilation 300 m3/h

Océ IJC930 Eco Solvent ink Yes, optional 50 m3

Additional local exhaust ventilation

150 m3/h

No 300 m3 Room ventilation, 3 times per hour

900 m3/h

(*) Use an Air Purification System (APS) with an active carbon filter (Filter 05).

1.3.1 Instructions for use of an APS • To connect an APS system to the Océ CS9160, please refer to “Installing an APS on a CS9160”.

• For instruction on safe use and maintenance of an APS, please refer to Filter 05 User’s Guide.

Notes

• The recommended room ventilation must be applied in case the printer is used at nominal printing speed (15 m2/h) at daily print volumes of 45 m2/day (3 times average intended use). In case of more intensive use of the printer, the ventilated volume must be increased accordingly.

• The required hourly ventilated volume is independent of the room volume. In case the Océ CS9160 is placed in a larger room, the ventilation rate may be lowered accordingly, as long as the hourly ventilated volume is equal to or larger than indicated in table 1.

• The (hourly) ventilated volume is required for each Océ CS9160 that is installed in the room. In case multiple machines are installed, either the room volume or the room ventilation has to be increased accordingly

• The total ventilated volume may be either a general room ventilation or a combination of a lower general room ventilation with additional extra local exhaust ventilation.

• The concentration of VOCs will be higher in the vicinity of the equipment. Part of the VOCs will be originating from the printed matter. To ensure no nuisance will occur, Océ advises to always use additional local exhaust ventilation directly above the heated media guide platen, even when an APS is used.

3.1.2 Ventilation requirements Ventilation requirements for Océ CS9160 using Bio-lactite, Low solvent Ultra or Eco Solvent inks The Océ CS9160 can make use of three types of ink: • IJC940 Océ Bio-Lactite Ink • IJC935 Océ LS Ultra Ink • Océ IJC930 Eco Solvent ink

In case the Océ CS9160 is placed in a larger room, the ventilation rate can be lowered accordingly, as long as the hourly ventilated volume is equal to or larger than indicated in table 1.

• The (hourly) ventilated volume is required for each Océ CS9160 that is installed in the room. In case multiple machines are installed, either the room volume or the room ventilation has to be increased accordingly

• The total ventilated volume can be either a general room ventilation or a combination of a lower general room ventilation with additional extra local exhaust ventilation.

• The concentration of VOCs will be higher in the vicinity of the equipment. Part of the VOCs will be originating from the printed matter. To ensure no nuisance will occur, Océ advises to always use additional local exhaust ventilation directly above the heated media guide platen, even when an APS is used.

4.2.3 Notes on handling media

Notes

• Use compatible media under an appropriate environment. The appropriate temperature and humidity ranges for printing are shown below.

Temperature HumidityRecommended range 22°C to 30°C 40% to 60%

Change rate Within 2°C per hour Within 5% per hour

• Do not use folded or torn media. • The size of media changes according to temperature and humidity variations in the print

environment. Therefore, place the media minimum 30 minutes in the print environment before use, to let it acclimatize to the print environment.

• Printing on media without having it acclimatized to the printing environment might cause media jams and bad print quality, caused by media expansion or contraction.

• Media has a printable side and a non-printable side. Printing on the non-print side can cause blurs and blots.

• Always handle media with dry and clean hands to avoid bad print quality. • When the printer will be unused for more than 24 hours, remove the media to prevent media

floating, media jams, and degradation of the print quality. • Avoid using media in cold places and dry places, especially when printing formal documents. • Always store the media in its original packing material. • Do not throw away the individual box and bag. Use them for storing media.

4.2.4 Notes on storing media

Notes

• Avoid storing media in rooms with high temperature and high humidity. • Avoid direct sunlight on stored media. • Always repack sheet media in its original packing and store it in a horizontal position. • After removing the unused roll media from the scroller, wind it properly, wrap it in an individual

bag and store it in an individual box. • Keep the media dry.

1. Smoother images

“WAVE stitching” keeps the bleed between passes under control and makes colour banding less obvious. Small misalignments of the heads are becoming less critical. Misfiring/missing nozzles are less visible in the output. 2. Image printability

Images are easier to print with less signs of banding/bleeding. Some images can be printed at higher speeds, without quality loss. Some difficult images become printable at faster speeds. Especially sign-images have a much smoother surface. 3. CS9160 = easier to use

The step-adjust is becoming less critical, making it a lot easier for the user to have good quality outputs.

4. Gamut Boost Because of the previous benefits, we clearly see a colour gamut boost by using the Intelligent Interweaving technique in combination with dedicated profiles. 5. Application Compatibility

Thanks to WAVE stitching, it is possible to reach predictable output results.
