Way of life and nutrition The brown bear lives in woodlands.

However, it seems clumsy, it can run at the speed of 45 km per hour in short distances.

It eats roots, acorns and young grasses. It likes: wild strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, wild apples, plums, pears, watermelons and ants. In summer the brown bear spends considerable time in eating as it needs 14 kg of food per day. The majority of winter is spent sleeping in their dens.

The leopard snake inhabits dry and warm rocky areas overgrown with grasses and shrubs. In summer it is mainly active at night and during the day it hides under rocks or in bushes.

It mainly eats small rodents and insectivores, rarely lizards, small birds and others.

In Bulgaria the only nesting site is the reserve "Srebarna", where it has a small colony.

The pelican mainly eats fish and occasionally amphibians.

Its nests and their young colonies are among the reeds in ponds, marshes and river deltas.

EUROPEAN MINK In nature it inhabits the northeast

parts of Bulgaria, and it favors humid climate as it is alongside the Danube

The mink fur is valuable and because of that it has been a victim of poaching.

The males reach a length of 28-43 cm, 12-19 cm tail and weigh 740 g. The females are 32-40 cm, 12-18 cm tail and weigh 440 gr. It inhabits ponds, rivers and coastal lakes, it is rarely found in swamps. It gives birth to from 2 to 7 young. It lives about 8-10 years.

BLACK STORK The black stork (Ciconia nigra) is a

large migratory wading bird of the stork family.

Body length: 95-100 cm Wingspan: 185-205 cm Weight: about 3 kg It lives in quiet old-growth forests, and

it builds their nests on a big tree. The black stork can be observed in Nikopol plateau, on the outskirts of Lovech, on the outskirts of the village of Sennik Sevlievo, in the suburbs over the town of Asenovgrad, the village of Tabachka (Rouse region) and in the villageof Bisser (Haskovo), and near the village of G. Belotintsi (Montana).

HERMANN'S TORTOISE The hermann's tortoise

(Testudo hermanni) is a type of reptile, one of the four European representative of the family of tortoises. The hermann's tortoise reaches 3-4 kg weight and 28 cm in length. The hermann's tortoise is active during the day. It mainly eats grass and fallen berries.

GOLDEN EAGLE

The golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is one of the largest diurnal birds of prey which can be seen on our land. The body length is 80-95 cm, spread of the wings - 195-220 cm, and weight - 2,8 - 6,5 kg.

The golden eagle leads a secluded life. It is predatory   bird hunting, chasing with flying its prey and if it fails to capture the prey for several hundred meters it abandons it. It prefers medium and relatively large size mammals such as deer, wild goats, etc..

MONK SEAL

By the beginning of 20th century it was present in Dobruzha banks of the Danube and it entered The Danube from the city of Rousse.

EDELWEISS

The edelweiss (Leontopodium, German: Edel - noble, Weiss - white lion paw) is a genus of perennial herbaceous plants of the family of Apiacea leaves.There are over 30 protected alpine species. The can be seen in Europe and Southwest Asia. There is just one kind of them in Bulgaria growing only in The Pirin mountains and the Stara Planina mountains as well as the Maliovitza part of the Rila mountains. The edelweiss blooms in June-August. Its flowers look like a star with 10-12 petals, arranged in a circle.

CROCUS OLIVERI

It blooms from February to April. It is a perennial herb. Its height is 8 to 15 cm. The stalk is six-partite. The leaves covered with hairs. The membrane of the tuber is unravelled of parallel fibers.

BLACK SEA LILY

The sand lily (Pancratium maritimum) is a type of bulb of the family of Amaryllidaceae. This is a beautiful coastal plant called the queen of flowers or the sea daffodil.
