Cyclotron v3.0 Radio-Frequency (RF) SystemIncrease power and simplify troubleshooting/setup

v3.0 RF Cabinet

IntermediatePowerAmplifier

Final PowerAmplifier

RF ControllerNew Firmware

§ More rapid resonance searching§ Faster recovery from crowbars§ Text error messages aids diagnostics§ Tracks operating hours of final amp

Combined Digital MeterDisplay

§ Eliminates noise seen on analog meters. More accurate, less likely to fail§ Flexible – get more information to aid troubleshooting

Pallet Amplifier § Increased power pallet amplifier (500 W to 1 kW) to increase reliabilityCombined Digital MeterDisplay

§ Eliminates noise seen on analog meters. More accurate, less likely to fail§ Flexible – get more information to aid troubleshooting

Higher Power § 800 W capacity gives more head room to drive final amp (improved reliability)

Eliminate matchingnetwork

§ Makes two tuning controls redundant hence simplifies setup / reduces service complexity (requires new matched50W final)

Indexed tuning § Easier tuning due to ability to record current setting and turn up/down in known increments

50W Final Input § Directly matches IPA input, eliminating need to tune IPA matching network, simplifying setup

Increased structuralstrength

§ Reduce failure rate of electrical components currently seen due to mechanical stress, e.g. failures of solder joints§ Reduce shipping damage by replacing fragile components such as Ultem standoffs

Increase output to 12kW

§ Increase from 10 to 12 kW§ Increased head room, hence less stress on system and fewer failures

High voltage powersupply § Increased output to support higher-output final amplifier

Breaker Panel PCB § Updated components to improve reliability

Input circuit breaker § Increased rating to reduce unnecessary trip events

Testing Changes to 18F HP TargetRemoval of hex grid gives ~5% increase saturation yield

• Current design uses a copper nose piece with hexgrid for Arnavar window support• Hex grid prevents major window failure but

copper gets highly activated which increasesexposure when rebuilding target

• Testing ongoing using Aluminum nose piecewithout hex grid• Aluminum doesn't get activated, but higher risk

of window failure causing distribution of activityand activated Arnavar material withincyclotron– avoided by diligent PM schedule
