We were recently honored with a visit by Rabbi Moshe Heine-mann, one of the major poskim (a person who makes halachic decisions) in the United States. He travelled from Baltimore to recertify the East valley eruv and to address the valley commu-nity rabbis.

Ms. Melissa Greenwood

6th Grade English/History Teacher

(and Fellow Writer)

Dear Melissa:

You can’t imagine what a kick we got out of receiving and reading each and every one of the letters that your great kids wrote us about their experiences studying (and examining, and acting out) “Hubert Invents the Wheel.” Please let them know that we authors get a little lonely sometimes, and hearing from a bunch of people who not only read our book, but enjoyed it, and even learned something from it, makes all the writing and the waiting and the rejection that go along with the author business worthwhile.

Your students are bright, dedicated, and perceptive, and they should all be made President of the United States. Or if that proves to be inconvenient, they should at least be the presidents of major universities all over the world. That said, we especially loved the letters from Miriam Bornstein, Kelly Jacob, Jonathan Bitton, Ilan Kapenstein, Adam Green, and the remarkably brave Jonathon Kiaei, who is certain to have a rewarding career in physical comedy.

Almost everyone asked about a sequel, and we’re thrilled to announce the publication this fall of “Marvin Invents Music,” the next installment in our “inventor” series.

“Marvin” is due out in October, and if you can’t find it ion Amazon or in a local store, contact our publisher, Blooming Tree Press, in Austin, Texas (www.bloomingtreepress.com) and say that you must, must, must have it!

We wish we could thank you personally, but we live three thousand miles away. So we’re sending you a picture of us, with all your letters, instead!

Best,

Claire & Monte Montgomery

General Announcements Page Dear Parents, All of the elementary students should have received a summer packet or assign-ment from their teachers to complete at home and turn in the first day of school. Students entering 6th grade and in the remaining middle school grades will re-ceive their summer assignments via email. All students will be required to read a novel and complete a pertinent assignment. These assignments will be graded by the 6th, 7th and 8th grade English teachers at the start of the school year. The assignments will be posted on our website during the course of the sum-mer. Please encourage your child to review basic math skills and the material covered this year over the course of the summer. Some simple review will help support your child’s success in the Fall. Teachers administer math assessment tests at the start of the year to determine areas of strength and weakness, even in the elementary classes. Torah skills/Hebrew reading review is also encouraged throughout vacation.

We want to thank our entire staff for working so hard to improve student learn-ing this year, and for their dedication. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and invigorating summer vacation. We look forward to an inspirational and successful 2010-2011 school year. Thank you for your continued confidence in us, and for entrusting us with your children’s education. Warm regards, the Administration

We're getting ready for fourth grade! All of the girls in class now work independently on long division. The students learned a special mnemonic to remember the steps of long division: Daddy (Divide), Mommy (Multiply), Sister (Subtract), Brother (Bring Down), Relative (Remainder), Cousin (Check). We've also finished reading the last chapter of Trumpet of the Swan, a novel by E.B. White. This story beautifully wraps up our year-long theme of Native Americans, respect for nature, and animal biology.

Mazel Tov to Leehy H. and Koral F. for winning the Fourth Grade Shoresh Bee.
