Under the topic ‘Steel Construction – Global Challenges for 2050’ this years European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS /CECM / EKS) Congress will handle important steel construction issues being faced around the globe. The ECCS Annual Meetings will also be held in the same location on September 23, 2011.

European steel construction associations, supporting the events as a whole, have united to jointly tackle Europe-wide activities and to coordinate such efforts under the umbrella of the European ECCS / CECM / EKS). Organizer of all events is the German Steel Construction Association (DSTV) together with bauforumstahl.

The European Convention for Constructional Steelwork Congress 2011 will place special focus on future developments in our cities. Across 3 presentation sessions renown international architects, planners and engineers will address issues surrounding:

• Safety&Risk–SeismicDesign• Metropolis–FutureEuropeanandUrbanInfrastructures• StructuralSteel–BuildingtheFuture

These important topics create the opportunity to address pressing issues for architects, structural engineers, designers, steel fabricators and builders giving way to a new European vision for a better and sustainable future.

A special highlight on the 2nd congress day will be the biannual ECCS European Awards, like the ECCS European PhD Award, the European Architectural Student Awards, the ECCS European Steel Design Awards 2011, and the ECCS Charles Massonnet Award 2011. This award will be given to an outstanding academic mind who have contributed to the technical advances in steel construction at an international level.
