! It was raining when Kyle was driving home from work. He was taking

the usual route, the long way. The other route was always backed up with

traffic. He was just a normal business man. Suddenly, he heard a rumbling

noise from his hood, then right out of the blue, his hood shot into the air! He

no longer had control of the car and he was spinning out of control! The

airbag shot out of the steering wheel and his head smashed into it! Then

every thing went blank and he went into a deep sleep.

! “How could this have happened,” said the prime minister, “it was just

all of a sudden a car engine blows up and the driver fractures almost every

part of his body, we need to send a detective on this case. What is the best

detective we have?” “His name is Ray and his assistant Clint,” said the

head of detective agency. “Great. Tell them I want to talk to them.” said the

prime minister. “Right away sir,” said the head of the detective agency.

! Ray was walking out of the prime ministers building with his assistant,

Clint. He had just been assigned an assignment to find out why the car had

exploded. Suddenly he heard a loud BOOM!!! He looked to the left and saw

another car explode! The prime minister came bursting out of his office!

The prime minister yelled, “Who did this? Who ever did will be arrested at

once!” When Ray saw the explosion, he was surprised. The whole car

didnʼt explode, just the hood. It was only then that he realized that it was

the car engines that were exploding, not the whole car.

! Ray started looking for clues almost as soon as he saw the engine

explode. Clint suggested to start looking in the car factories, but Ray

insisted to go the the news center and see what the latest news was.

When they got to the news center, the news director told them that car

engines were blowing up all over the world. This took Ray by surprise. He

had never considered that the rest of the world was sharing the same

problems. This meant him and Clint could try to find some people that could

help them.



! They set off to a car factory to see if anything was going on there.

They asked them if they had heard about the news of the exploding car

engines. The head of the factory said he saw the news, but the factory was

operating fine, and if anything, they were doing better than usual because

the factory just got a new battery. Ray and Clint both agreed that the

factories were doing fine so they left to go find some other countries that

were also suffering from the same problems.

! They got the first flight to New York from Boston. It was going to be a

rainy flight and short flight, it was only an hour. The flight attendant spoke

into his microphone, “My name is Bob and I will be your flight attendant

today, the flight will be an hour so we will not be serving food or

beverages.” Ray sighed, he had regretted that he hadnʼt bought anything at

the airport and he was starving. Clint, however, had pigged out. He said

that they would probably lose there appetite on the plane and Ray said they

were going to serve food. Ray and Clint slept the whole flight and were

woken up by the flight attendant announcing that the plane was going to

land. Ray yawned and woke Clint up. They were finally landing.



! Ray and Clint set to work as soon as they checked into their hotel.

They split up. Ray went to the detective agency and Clint went to the car

factory.

! Ray took a taxi to the agency. He was hoping that he could get some

help from some other detectives. When he got there, he rang the door bell

and it was opened by a man who looked like a butler, but Ray guessed he

was an assistant like Clint. He took him into a room that looked like a

meeting room and it probably was because there was a bunch of detectives

talking about a problem, probably exploding cars. They all stopped talking

when they saw him. The man at the head of the table stood up and said,

“Hello, we were expecting a foreign detective to stop by sooner or later. You

must be here because of the car engines, aren't you?

“Yes, I am,” exclaimed Ray. “I was thinking I could get some help on the

case.”

“Of course. We will need the extra help too,” said the man. “We will send

the best detective we have. His name is Joseph, and he loves excitement.”

“OK, just what we need,” said Ray. “I will escort you in one of my Ferraris.”

said the man. Ray and Joseph started to walk out of the room. “By the way,

Iʼm the head of New Yorkʼs detectives,” said the man.



! Ray, Joseph and Clint met at the entrance to the Empire State

building. “Was everything ok at the car factory?” Asked Ray.

“Yes. Same as the one in Boston. They also got a new battery.” reported

Clint. “By the way, this is Joseph, New Yorkʼs best detective,” introduced

Ray.

“Nice to meet you,” said Joseph politely. “It is an honour to meet the best

detective in New York, said Clint not knowing what else to say. “Wait! I just

realized something! If theyʼre getting a new battery, then maybe something

went wrong with the battery! Do they have one of the ruined cars that

exploded?” Asked Ray excitedly.

“I did ask the manager of the factory, and he said that the prime minister

has one in a warehouse, I also made some arrangements for us to see it,”

said Clint.

“Great,” said Ray. “Letʼs make our way over there now.”

! They arrived there half an hour later. The warehouse looked old and

rusty. If a slightly strong wind came, the warehouse would collapse. “Well

its now or never,” said Joseph excitedly. They went in. Clint flicked the

lights on. “That is defiantly not the highest quality car Iʼve seen,” said

Joseph.



“It doesn't have a hood,” said Clint.

“I saw a car blow up in Boston and the hood shot up into the air. That̓ s how

I figured out that the battery is the one causing the problem,” exclaimed

Ray. They all moved closer to see what was inside the hood. At the same

time, they all noticed something, there was no battery, just the remains of it.

None of them were technical geniuses, but you donʼt have to be technical

genius to know what the remains of a car battery is. There were scraps of

metal all over the engine. There was an empty black spot to show where

the battery had once been.

“We definitely need to see a battery that hasnʼt been pulverized yet. We

need to find something to shut it down with,” said Clint.

“Iʼm going to make arrangements to see one. Did you get the name of the

factory manager?” Asked Ray.

“I did catch his name, it was Paul, Paul Smith,” answered Clint.

“Lets head over there,” said Ray

They arrived at the factory in an hour. They immediately spoke to Paul

Smith about it. “I am sure that it is the battery that is the problem,”

explained Ray.



“You can check out the battery if you want, but Iʼm not convinced that this is

the problem,” said Paul.

“Weʼll see,” challenged Ray. Paul led them down to the model in the center

of the factory.

“This is it,” said Paul. The battery looked like an engine. Suddenly there

came a rumbling noise from the battery.

“Whatʼs that noise?” Exclaimed Paul. “RUN!” They all sprinted away from

the model. Unfortunately Paul wasnʼt fast enough and got blown off his

feet! He hit the ground with a THUD! Ray, Clint and Joseph ran over to him.

“Are you OK?” Asked Joseph.

“Yeah, Iʼm all right, except I think I have broken my arm, I landed on it pretty

hard on it when I fell,” answered Paul.

“Now we know for sure that the battery is the problem,” said Clint. Ray

hadnʼt spoken at all. You could tell he was deep in thought. We need to find

something to shut it down with.

! A scientist was in his lab finishing off the invention that he was

working on. His name was Harrison Adams. “There, done” said Harrison. “I

just need to contact an old friend, Ray.”



They had almost set off immediately after Harry contacted them. Harrison

Adams was an old friend, but he liked to be called Harry. They were

roommates in college and Ray never had a closer friend. But Harry went off

to study as a scientist and Ray wanted to be a detective. He was really

exited to see him again.

They finally arrived in a car. Harry came bursting out of the front door, ran

over to Ray, and gave him a hug. “Itʼs really nice to see you again,” said

Ray.

“Itʼs nice to see you too. We should get to work straight away, exclaimed

Harry.”

“Right, what have you built?” Asked Ray.

“Itʼs device that can suck the the battery ʼs power out of it,” answered Harry.

“Letʼs see it”, said Ray excitedly. Harry brought them in.

They were on there way back an hour later with Ray, Harry, Clint and

Joseph. When they arrived at prime ministerʼs office they went straight in

without knocking. “Prime minister, we found a solution for the exploding

battery!” Shouted Ray.



“What, really?” Asked the prime minister excitedly. “Yep. Hi, I ʼm Harrison

Adams, the one who built this devise,” introduced Harry.

“It is very nice to meet you Harrison,” said the prime minister.

“You can call me Harry actually. We should deliver this device to the car

factories before any body else gets hurt,” said Harry.

“I can arrange that,” said the prime minister relived to have the crisis

solved.

“We should get going,” said Ray.

“I guess weʼre the new heros in town,” said Clint puffing out his chest.
