7 th February UPDATE English Curling Championships 2010 Men’s Final result Rather a splendid well fought "final" which essentially boiled to two "key" unfortunate shots. The first had been blanked and in the second Malton was forced to take a single. The 3rd saw a missed triple by Opel; one of those where you're convinced you could never fit a stone through that gap and the stone "breathes in" as it sails through. After this there were always two other MacDougall stones in play and the 3 was always on the cards providing the last shot wasn't heavy. MacDougall proceeded to steal singles at the next two and at the 5th end break it was 5-1. A rejuvenated Malton team came out the other side, took a single at the 6th and stole another in the 7th. The 8th had the potential to go the same way with Malton sitting 2nd shot and the counting MacDougall shot looking a tad exposed. The jury is probably still out as to what happened with Maltons first skip stone - wrong ice, too heavy, tweaked or some combination of all three. Instead of squeaking through and taking the counter, it hit the guard full in the face promoting both it and taking out the counting second stone. MacDougall's response guarded some of the hole but it was a big fill and still room for Malton to make things "interesting". A wreck on the guard left MacDougall with a draw for a 5, handshakes and a final score of 10-3. The new champions are Alan MacDougall, Andrew Reed, Andrew Woolston and Tom Jaeggi.

7th  February  UPDATE

English  Curling  Championships  2010

Men’s  Final  result

Rather a splendid well fought "final" which essentially boiled to two "key" unfortunate shots.
