For customers upgrading from a release earlier than Version 7.1, you can access and review new features
and functionality for each prior release on the EastCoast Customer Portal.
Design to Fabrication Components Overview
The EastCoast CAD/CAM Design to Fabrication software system provides a streamlined workflow that
allows users to move from design to fabrication with one set of products.
• MEP Design to Fabrication is the tool for converting MEP engineering designs (duct and pipe
systems from Revit, or generic AutoCAD MEP duct systems) to Fabrication-ready drawings using
automated routines, saving significant fabrication detailing resources and time. MEP Design to
Fabrication works inside both Autodesk’s Revit and AutoCAD MEP software. Customers have the
choice of purchasing their CAD seat(s) with or without an MEP Design to Fabrication license.
• EC CAD includes several software components. Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP software is
integrated directly inside AutoCAD MEP, to give users enhanced detailing capability and tools to
work with real-world specifications and sizing for duct, and real manufacturer mechanical content.
Customers choose to install only the elements of Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP that they are
licensed for and plan to use - Pipe, Duct, or Combo (for both Pipe and Duct functionality).
PartManager is the user interface to the EastCoast manufacturer library and database that is used by
Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP, providing easy access and organization and management of all
parts, fittings, valves and shop defaults being used for project design. EC Project is the software
tools and database for transferring As-built Sheet Metal drawings into Revit as native Revit
objects. A limited license of EC DuctMaker is also included with EC CAD. This limited license
provides EC CAD users with the ability to review their fabrication pickoffs in DuctMaker and to
gain full CAD and CAM access to the EastCoast manufacturer library and database.
• EC DuctMaker is the CAM software tool, providing a fabrication interface used to build a highly-
customized duct library that can be shared with design team colleagues, via Fabrication for
AutoCAD MEP Sheet Metal. DuctMaker contains a comprehensive library of Oval, Round and
Rectangular fittings and duct as well as specialty parts. It accepts Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP
pickoff lists, estimating downloads, and allows for more editing if required. The software downloads
fittings directly to the shop floor plasma cutters, liner cutters and coil lines, and uses barcode
scanners to track the inventory of items during fabrication.
1.2 Compatibility
Operating System
The software was primarily tested under the Windows 7 64-bit operating system, with Microsoft Sync
Framework Runtime and Service Native v1.0. It is supported under Windows 8 and 8.1 as well.
NOTE: This version was not tested and is not officially supported under Windows 10.

2.1 New Features and Enhancements
EC OBJRELUPDATE Command
AutoCAD MEP Objects have multiple graphical representations and they have relationships to other
objects. Sometimes these representations and relationships are not fully updated by AutoCAD MEP.
This may show up as a display issue or a disconnect issue for example. The AutoCAD MEP Command
OBJRELUPDATE can be used to correct these types of issues in your drawing. To make this command
more accessible and easier to use an EC OBJRELUPDATE command has been added to the Load Catalog
drop down and to the DuctModify ribbon.
The new EC OBJRELUPDATE command that was added to the Load Catalog dropdown list of
commands, will update all entities in your drawing automatically.
The EC OBJRELUPDATE command that was also added to the Duct Modify ribbon will display in the
Modify Ribbon when you make a selection set in your drawing. This command will only update the
selected entities instead of updating all entities when running it from the Load Catalog dropdown.

Pipe and Duct Spool Improvements
Two Pipe and Duct Spool Improvements were made in V7.2.
Renaming Pipe and Duct Spools
• Pipe and Duct Spools can now be renamed via the Fabrication Palette.
• All other current spooling functionality will remain the same.
• Two new property sets “PipeSpoolDisplayName” and “DuctSpoolDisplayName” have been
added to ECPipeSystemData and ECDuctSystemData
o The SpoolDisplayName will default to the SpoolIndexName. When spools are renamed
the other property sets will remain the same, but SpoolDisplayName will update with
the new name.
o The display themes will display the SpoolDisplayName.
o All Pipe and Duct schedules have been updated and will display the
SpoolDisplayName
o Re-Index will work as it does now, but it will reset all SpoolDisplayNames back to
SpoolIndexName.
Auto Legend Definition
• The Auto Legend Definition Spool General Option has been re-added to the options on the
ECTools tab. This option will be turned off by default.
• When this option is turned on, the spool display themes will automatically update as the spools
are being defined. For the spool display themes to automatically update, regen needs to run
after defining your spool. Regen will be the last command ran from the command line. If you
want to define multiple spools by hitting enter on the command line to run the spool command
again, you will need to make sure that the Auto Legend Definition is unchecked under
ECTools.
Pre-EndCap Connector on Full Joints
When you use the Cap Open Ends tool to apply endcaps, if the duct you’re applying the endcap to is a
full-length joint, it will modify the length to keep it a full-length joint according to the new connector it
now has. The length will change and the endpoint location of the duct and endcap will slightly change.
This will happen with or without Smart Connector Override checked on in the options on the ECTools
tab.
Design to Fabrication V7.2 Release Notes EC CAD
EastCoast CAD/CAM 9
Smart Connector Override ECTools Option
The option “Smart Connector Override” has been added to options under the ECTools tab. There are
times when you need to change the connector on a full-length piece of duct. The duct may be attached to
a canvas connector for example, or need an endcap attached to its outlet. The duct could be the first piece
in a run, in the middle of a run, or be the last piece in the run.
You can now select the duct, change either or both connectors, and have that piece of duct still be a full-
length joint based on the new connectors that it now has. If the connectors changed there is a good
chance that the length of the full joint will now be different than it was before. The length will be dealt
with accordingly.
In some cases, if there are no other fittings attached then the length adjustment would be made and the
endpoint location of the open end of the duct would slightly change. If the duct is attached to an endcap
then the length adjustment would be made and the endpoint location of the duct and endcap would
slightly change.
If the full-length joint becomes smaller or larger, the difference will be added or taken from the next
short piece in the run that exists before the next inline fitting. If a short piece doesn’t exist, then one will
be created before the next inline fitting in the run. If a short piece in the run becomes larger than a full
joint, then the short piece will become a full joint and a new short piece will be created before the next
inline fitting in the run.
If taps are attached to duct that is affected by this length change, then the taps will keep their existing
location and won’t be affected by the duct length changes.
A parameter “Minimum Duct Length” has been added to the options on the ECTools tab. The user will
enter a number value in inches. If a short piece is created and it is smaller than the specified “Minimum
Duct Length” value, an error will be generated on the error log. The change will be made and the short
piece will be created, but you will receive the error.

2.2 Resolved Issues
Allowance Naming Conventions in AutoCAD MEP
You can now include the name of the allowance as part of the naming convention. For example, you can
now call your joint “3-8 Lap Joint” without it causing issues in AutoCAD MEP and when downloaded.
Another example would be naming your lock “3-8 Lap Lock”.
Rectangular Body Valves Display (Metric)
Valves with a rectangular body will now display correctly when using a metric environment.
Specification Issues
Five specification issues were corrected.
• Cloning a specification and changing a value at the top Fitting, Rectangular, Round, or Oval
levels wouldn’t pass down the values correctly to the specific fitting levels of the specification.
It will now pass down the correct values to the specific fitting levels of the specification.
Changing a value at the top Taps level also had this issue, which has been corrected.
• The Straight Joint tap value for Round and Oval Crosses and Tees will no longer populate with
the Body Joint value. The Straight Joint parameter will read the specification correctly and
populate with the specified Straight Joint value.
• The Rectangular Tee, Round tap Lock will no longer change when it is unchecked on a rule.
• The Rectangular Tee, Round Connector Out1 will no longer get populated incorrectly with a
Rectangular Connector, since it is a Round Connector.
• Specifying the Connector on the Wyes level will now populate the Round Wye, Standard
Connector Out Right correctly.
System Number FABPartNumbering Property Set and Filter
When using the DUCTPARTNUMBER command to number ductwork, the system will now assign a
system number to duct and fittings, and populate the SystemNumber FABPartNumbering property set.
Design to Fabrication V7.2 Release Notes EC CAD
EastCoast CAD/CAM 14
Now that the duct and fittings have System Number assigned and populated correctly, the Pickoff
System Number filter can be used.
Design to Fabrication V7.2 Release Notes EC CAD
EastCoast CAD/CAM 15
Total Station Issues
Three Total Station issues were corrected.
• An issue that would generate Total Station Point Algorithm errors when defining a point group
was corrected.
• The Total Station commands will now work when using a Duct Only License, or Pipe Only
License.
• A new command “Auto Points Tag” has been added to the Pipe Number Tags dropdown. Since
AutoTag isn’t a Pipe Only License command, a pipe user should use Auto Points Tag to tag the
Total Station Points.
2.3 Known Issues
AutoCAD MEP Object Viewer Liner and Insulation Display
Liner and insulation will not display correctly on Round and Oval Gored Elbows, Radius Elbows, and
Ogee Transitions when viewing them via the AutoCAD MEP object viewer.
Duct Routing Performance
You may experience some jumpy cursor movement when routing depending on the complexity of your
duct specs and the performance of your computer hardware.
Insulation Display on Attached Views and XREF Files
Insulation will not display correctly on Round and Oval Gored Elbows, Radius Elbows, and Ogee
Transitions on attached views and XREF files.
Oval Duct Display in AutoCAD MEP
In AutoCAD MEP 2017, oval ducts with flange thickness display an extra line in plan view for certain
dimensions. This is a known issue in AutoCAD MEP 2017 and it has been reported to the Autodesk
development team.

There were 3 Label improvements in V7.2.
• A new Type property “# of Gores” has been added to the labels. It has 2 different value options:
o # of Gores (Total)
o # of Gores (X of Total)
When using the combined face elbow fitting settings option, you will want to use the # of
Gores (Total) value which will report the total number of gores. If you’re not using the
combined face elbow fitting settings option, you can use either option. # of Gores (X of Total)
will report the number of the gore out of the total amount of gores.
Design to Fabrication V7.2 Release Notes DuctMaker

The Round Loloss Cross, Tee, and Tap will now have 6 alignment marks unless it falls on a seam, and 6
hole alignment marks.
The Oval Crosses, Tees, and Taps now have 2 additional parameters including the existing parameters.
• Alignment Mark (2 additional marks unless it falls on a seam)
• Roll Mark (4 existing marks)
• Hole Alignment Mark (2 additional marks)
Design to Fabrication V7.2 Release Notes DuctMaker
EastCoast CAD/CAM 19
• Hole Roll Alignment Mark (4 existing marks)
Vane “Adjustment Depth” and Liner Table “Width Adjustment”
The Vane “Adjustment Depth” and Liner Table “Width Adjustment” will now affect Double Wall duct
differently than before.
• Single wall duct will adjust the length of the vane according to the Vane “Adjustment Depth”.
• Single wall duct with liner will adjust the length of the vane according to the Vane “Adjustment
Depth” and the Liner Table “Width Adjustment”.
• Double wall duct will now adjust the length of the vane according to the Vane “Adjustment
Depth” based off the inner wall fitting.
A new specification parameter “Double Wall” has also been introduced, which can be set to True or
False (= or !=) for Rectangular, Round, and Oval. This could be used for selecting a different vane setup

The Round Transition Eccentric, Oval Transition
Eccentric, Round to Square Eccentric, Round to Oval
Eccentric, Oval to Round Eccentric, Oval to Square
Eccentric, Square to Round Eccentric, and Square to Oval
Eccentric Width Offset Factor and Depth Offset Factor
parameters are now working correctly. When downloading
from AutoCAD MEP, the Width Offset Factor and Depth
Offset Factor will also now download with the correct
values.
Round Offset Alignment Marks
When CombineFaces is set to TRUE in the Fitting Settings
you will now only get an alignment mark on each side of
the body of the Round Offset like the Round Elbow Gored.
When CombineFaces is set to FALSE in the Fitting
Settings you will now only get alignment marks on each
side of the body and on the inlets like the Round Gored
Elbow. The alignment marks on the outlets have been
removed since they aren’t necessary.

Round Tee, Bullhead Straight 1 and Length 2 Joint Sex
The Straight 1 and Length 2 Joint Sex has been corrected
on the Round Tee, Bullhead. Straight 1 & 2 and Length 1
& 2 no longer need to be different for the fitting to be
correct.
Round Wye, Variable Parts Creation
You will no longer receive critical errors when trying to
create the Round Wye, Variable with specific set values
and specific connector values.
Shop Policy Issue The option “Next on Enter” no longer requires an extra
Enter to move to the next parameter.
Specification Issues
Five specification issues were corrected.
• Cloning a specification and changing a value
at the top Fitting, Rectangular, Round, or
Oval levels wouldn’t pass down the values
correctly to the specific fitting levels of the
specification. It will now pass down the
correct values to the specific fitting levels of
the specification. Changing a value at the top
Taps level also had this issue, which has
been corrected.
• The Straight Joint tap value for Round and
Oval Crosses and Tees will no longer
populate with the Body Joint value. The
Straight Joint parameter will read the
specification correctly and populate with the

specified Straight Joint value.
• The Rectangular Tee, Round tap Lock will
no longer change when it is unchecked on a
rule.
• The Rectangular Tee, Round Connector Out1
will no longer get populated incorrectly with
a Rectangular Connector, since it is a Round
Connector.
• Specifying the Connector on the Wyes level
will now populate the Round Wye, Standard
Connector Out Right correctly.
Taps on Rectangular Bodies
Taps on Rectangular bodies will no longer crash
DuctMaker when Angle 1 and/or Angle 2 is set to 0.
Instead you receive the following error message “Angle1
must be in the following range (5 ; 175)” and “Angle2
must be in the following range (5 ; 175)”.
3.3 Known Issues
CenterLineInput = FALSE
CenterLineInput in the Shop Policies is currently not working as expected when it is set to TRUE. We
have set the CenterLineInput in the database to FALSE and recommend the user to set CenterLineInput
to FALSE until it is implemented in a future release.
Duct Dimension Rule for Taps on Existing Specifications
We have removed the Duct Dimension rule from the taps portion of the specification, but some users
may already have a specification setup that has taps using the Duct Dimension rule. The existing Duct
Dimension rules for taps will still work as expected, but we recommend deleting these rules and creating
new rules that use the new specification rule Duct Dimension Outlets.
Specification Export
If a specification has shapes turned off in the Specification Options and was exported using an earlier
version than version 7.0, the specification will import into DuctMaker ignoring your Specification
Options and all 3 shapes rectangular, round, and oval will be turned on. The Specification Options will
need to be manually modified.
