and move all the paper bags using only their mouths … and no part of their body could touch the floor except their feet! Parents had such fun watching the final game that four of us played a round ourselves. Let me tell you, parents have a hard time picking up a short bag from the floor using only their mouths! There were definitely some surprises, though. Mike Niemer is WAY more limber than anyone would have guessed!

It was a fun afternoon of games and fellowship. Some games were challenging and Mustard Seeds did a great job of supporting one another and cheering each other on!

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to the parents who hosted games! Carolyn and Garrett Welch, Ray Delgado, Mike Niemer, Ken Holmes, Ramon and Gina Burin, Kristin Sutton, and Karen Olson … the MUSTARD SEED OLYMPICS would have been a bust without you!

Mustard Seeds also gathered jelly and jam benefiting the Lake Stevens Food Bank. A donation table and box will be left out through May 29 for everyone interested in also donating!

On June 11 Mustard Seeds are going on a FIELD TRIP! We are ordering t-shirts and gearing up for our final gathering before the summer! Look for more information in the Sunday announcements!

Andi Holmes, [email protected].

MUSTARD SEEDSOn May 21 Mustard Seeds gathered for the Second Annual MUSTARD SEED OLYMPICS. We played so many fun games! Parents and grandparents hosted games and were an essential part of this month’s fun.

Mustard Seeds had a challenge course and score cards to keep track of their progress and, in some of the games, they had to work as a team to accomplish a common goal. Mustard Seeds used blow darts made of q-tips to knock down targets, transported marshmallows from one place to another using only straws and lung power, threw swimming tubes at one another in a human ring toss, stacked cups in a pyramid, stuck Cheetos to Mike Niemer’s head with shaving cream, moved cookies from their foreheads to their mouths to eat (no hands), threw toilet paper rolls through hoops, ate fruit-by-the-foot rollups without hands, and stacked dice on a craft stick and balanced them in their mouths. After a round of competition, Mustard Seeds had to work together in large teams for a game called BITE ME. Paper bags of different heights were lined up and each member of a team had to pick up

Very special thanks go to Pastor Benson for the trips to the hospital, Bethany at Silver Lake, and at home where he served the Eucharist. I have such appreciation for all your help. –Thank you, Crystal Johanson

Welcome New MembersWelcoming new members is important news for several reasons: introduces the newest members to the current members, announces that the church is growing, and tells new members the church cares about them and is pleased they have joined the congregation. Please introduce yourself and welcome them to Ebenezer. These new members were received into the church on May 1, 2016.

Cathee and her husband Steve recently moved to Lake Stevens from Southern California. She found Ebenezer Lutheran through the ELCA website and was quickly adopted by the choir and quilters. Cathee sews almost every day and likes to read a lot. She and Steve both like to bake; she often makes bread, and his specialty is chocolate desserts.

David was born and raised in Detroit. He worked as a CNA at nursing homes in Detroit and Kentucky. Since moving to Lake Stevens, he has been working as a general handyman, as his own boss. He says, “God brought me to Ebenezer’s doorstep.” He found the church by chance when he was out walking. David enjoys talking to the elderly and feeling a part of the community.

Greg has lived in Lake Stevens many years and works at Boeing. He has two children, Sky and Star. Sharon, an LPN, moved to Lake Stevens a year ago after living in New York for 41 years. She has two children, Dean and Emma. They are a blended family and they all love family time, hiking, and spending summer days at the lake.

The Schoenborns moved to Lake Stevens in October 2015. Stephanie works at the Navy Federal Credit Union and Justin works for Boeing. Justin enjoys fishing, hunting, and scuba diving, Stephanie rides and shows American Saddlebred horses, and Liam loves to play outside and color.

Pastor Benson led the congregation in welcoming our new members, and the sponsors introduced their new members and shared a little about their lives. We thank God for all our new members. God’s blessings on each one and their families!

Gail has five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. After losing her husband Maurice, she moved to Lake Stevens. She visited many churches, but at Ebenezer she felt like she belonged. Gail enjoys quilting, gardening, and cooking. Until she retired she had a beauty salon and now does hair styling for shut-ins.

The Miller family lives in Lake Stevens where they are raising their three young children Makayla, Madison, and Max. Jeremy typically works Saturday nights in the family business operating a bowling alley in Everett.

Randy (not pictured) and Catherine have been looking for a comfortable, friendly church since leaving their church in Vancouver. She says, “We have found it!” Both Randy and Catherine enjoy reading, music, horses, and watching Stephanie and Savannah (granddaughter) show their horses.

Did You Know? The three stained glass windows located in the stairway were first installed in a Chapel which was located where Pastor Benson’s office and the Youth Office are now. During a construction project in 1992, they were moved to their present location. The windows were purchased by the Abrahamson family in memory of Jacob and Ida Abrahamson, founding members. If you would like more info about furnishings, please ask Roseanne, 425-334-0421, for a booklet describing other items in the church.
